A list of puns related to "Femoral nerve block"
Hey everyone,
I had ACL surgery (patella tendon graft) last Tuesday (04/02/19). They gave me a femoral nerve block without my consent or presenting the pros / cons.
Looking back at the situation, Iβm pretty astonished they wouldnβt even discuss it with me. But nothing I can do about it now.
But I am a little bit concerned. It has been almost 6 days now and although my quad has sensation to the touch (I can feel someone pinching or scratching my quad) I am unable to tighten my quad. I canβt form any sort of muscle contraction.
It is starting to concern me. I read AT MOST it should last about 3 days. Has anyone else had a similar experience? How long did it take you all to regain that ability to tighten / contract your quad ? Should I be concerned or do I just need to be more patient ?
Thank you in advanced for all the replies, it is greatly greatly appreciated !!!
I think either some how Iβve hit l2/3 and the femoral nerve. Or itβs pinched in my super tight hips. How to tell dr I have nerve pain and not injury.
The pain and numbness around my knee and in my quad has decreased. still lots of nighttime pain
Hello everyone,
Recently for the past 2 weeks i am experiencing some fluttering in my left thigh muscles, and also weakness in my left ankle. Also my left side of thigh is quite sore aswell.
I did hurt my back 6 months ago by deadlift, but too which i felt i recovered last month.
Should i go for an MRI to see whats happening?
Appreciate all your feedback
Iβm black M, 50, 180lbs, pain is on front/side of thigh from hip down to knee, Iβm not on any meds but Iβve been taking 400mg ibuprofen daily. Iβve also been diagnosed with sciatica which left my right buttock and bottom of my feet numb for almost a year. Now the numbness is gone but a slight ache in the lower back persists.
This shock feeling happens once every other week or so. Itβs extremely albeit briefly painful. I tried to do a femoral flossing exercise which immediately trigger another episode. It lasts for a few seconds and then itβs gone, leaving me a paranoid mess for a couple of days afraid of when itβll happen again. Could it be meralgia paresthetica?
Any advice on what I should do and any temporary treatment I can apply to avoid another?
42M. Started experiencing some lower left back pain doing stuff around the house. Got worse as the day went along. Ended up turning into shooting pain and numbing of my left thigh. My muscles were just twitching constantly. Couldn't take 5 steps without leg going numb. Just kind of fought thru the pain as best as I could. Went to see a chiro. Took xrays. There's some lumbars out of whack he said were causing it. He said it's the ones he would've guessed by my description of symptoms. Started getting some adjustments and everything seemed to be improving. I went a week and a half where I was feeling pretty good. All of a sudden, it's reverted back to being painful. It's a burning pain along my lower back, hip, groin crease and, much to my enjoyment, my left testicle. Just wondering if it's time to start looking at seeing someone else outside of the chiropractic realm. Thanks.
Hey guys, this is not a question I just donβt know what to do anymore and no one around me can relate to my pain so I guess Iβm here just to feel less alone with this ******* pain.
2 months ago, after multiple episodes of mild low back pain I started to feel pain in my groin and left thigh. At this point I went to see a Doctor and he told me it was probably a disc herniation pressing the femoral nerve. Gave me Naproxen and Acetaminophen, it worked for a day or two but then it became useless. He told me to go see a PT, I started doing mackenzie and other stretches with him and at home but it doesnβt improve even with this. I also go walk 2 hours/ 4 times a day but the pain doesnβt go away.
I used to be an happy guy but now Iβm becoming more and more like a sacarstic jerk always apologizing for his bad mood. I canβt do the things I love because I canβt sit for more than 3 minutes because of the pain. I canβt work, go to cinema, go to friends house, play games or just relax on the couch. Iβm stuck between standing and laying down. I fear going out of the bed in the morning because of the pain. Life has never been darker for me. I blame myself for ignoring the signs and letting me go to this point.
I do not deserve⦠no one deserve this kind of pain. I know I have to now pay the price and maybe life will never be the same. I just hope it is one I can afford.
Our almost-3-month-old got fitted with a Pavlik harness two days ago for mild hip dysplasia in her right hip (she was breech for the entire pregnancy). Yesterday we noticed that she stopped kicking her right leg, a sign of femoral nerve palsy. We called the doctor and were told to remove the harness until we can see the doctor again (which unfortunately isnβt until 5 days from now).
From reading some studies online, it appears that the longer it takes for nerve function to come back, the less likely the harness can be used successfully. After 6 hours without the harness, our baby is still not kicking that leg so we are concerned. Waiting for a call back from the doctor now.
Has anyone else experienced this? If so, was your baby still able to use the harness successfully? I know this group is still super small and apparently femoral nerve palsy is rare, but I figured Iβd ask anyways.
When I was about 24 (female, 40 now) I had a nerve conduction study done (with the needles from my leg up through my spine) and was told I had femoral nerve damage and that the myelin sheath was coming undone. I was offered nerve meds but declined due to a close friends experience with them and her MS.
For years it has been βokβ. Iβd have bouts of my quad falling asleep and being problematic for maybe a week at a time... or maybe just an hour if I stood too long. If I sat or did the captain Morgan generally Iβd be ok.
Fast forward. About 3.5 weeks ago my back went out. Normal, or so I thought. Psoas problems in the past... not a lot of core strength or internal hip rotation. But am a pretty big yogi! Just not lately due to work.
However, this time was different. Iβve been chained to my desk for work (10-12 hour days, for about 3 weeks straight) and the pain just got worse. I started with a chiropractor and it seemed to help a bit, but not completely. Until last Thursday, the pain got a lot worse. About a week before I got a sit stand desk and spend most of my time standing. Chiro helped very little on Friday and I woke up in excruciating pain on Saturday. Couldnβt sit, or stand. Even laying hurt if I didnβt find just the right position. I nearly passed out and called the doctor. They sent me to urgent care.
No real testing, just a minor physical exam and they said sciatica. Gave me anti inflammatories, muscle relaxants, and steroids (oral).
I had a deadline Saturday, and was told not to take the muscle relaxants until I was done with work. So I took the steroids and anti inflammatories (which helped a bit) and continued to stand for four hours while I finished my work. I finally took the muscle relaxants and the pain was remarkably better. Didnβt sleep great. Pain was back in the am, although a bit better.
Iβve been on bed rest for 48 hours now and it still hurts. Not as bad. But does. I see the doc tomorrow... but am so confused about the femoral nerve vs the sciatic. Iβve also had various leg injuries (knee dislocation, high ankle sprain, etc) and am now worried that the nerve damage is causing me to not be able to sense when Iβm hurting myself.
Any thoughts or advice? Or even just a few good posts to read that youβd recommend?
Iβm just in a lot of pain and kind of scared. Iβm worried the nerve damage is irreversible at this point and that itβll stay this painful. Almost all of my pain is in my lumbar and in my right buttock, and right qu
... keep reading on reddit β‘29 Female 5'4 152lbs. 3 weeks since injury. Right knee and thigh. Nonsmoker. Only medications are for asthma and anxiety. Most common medicine is ibprophen. No previous knee injuries but previous hip and ankle injuries from gymnastics as a child.
So I was working the ER almost 3 weeks ago and a RN accidentally hit me in the R knee with an O2 tank. Thankfully it was near the end of my shift but the whole right side of my knee went almost completely numb within 20 minutes from the injury. Limped home and iced, elevated, and compressed the area. Knee felt "better" but still felt off the next day. I went to Occ health the next day to fill for workmans Comp and was told to keep doing what I was doing and was refused an Xray even though I wanted something. I had a funky feeling something was off and mentioned I think it might need an MRI but again was brushed off. For 2 weeks, I continued to wrap and elevate my knee with little progress. Went back to Occ health and was told to try taking off the brace and I protested that it felt worse without the brace. Now this was midway through a 12hr shift at the hospital and I average 6 miles a day when I work. So about halfway through the next day at work (about 24hr of having the brace off), I was nearly completely unable to walk. With every step my knee would try to give way. The whole front of my thigh was is near constant muscle spasms. Back to Occ health, still no attempt to figure out what is actually going on but now they want to ship me off to PT and prescribed Robaxin. At this point, I'm annoyed and I've been out of work for almost a week. Still get random spasms and uneasiness with walking even with a brace. I'm going to my PCP for a second opinion but I would rather get Occ health to actually order the MRI instead of having to use my personal insurance. My thoughts are this is an injury to my femoral nerve but I'm open to any thoughts. Also if anyone has ideas on getting Occ health to actually do their job, I'm all ears.
Tl;dr: was struck in the knee by an oxygen tank at work and now having muscle spasms, numbness, and weakness causing me not being able to walk without knee giving way. Occ. Health is completely unhelpful.
I had an excision a year a ago and was at my 1 year check up yesterday.
A few weeks after the surgery last year I noticed my left groin would sometimes tighten up when i walked. I thought it might be scar tissue as endo was removed from my lower left abdomen. At the time I was told there was some endo lower in my groin, but another surgical team had to do that kind of excision. Now it's constant and I can even feel a nuisance in my left groin as I'm lying in bed.
A couple of months ago I went to a physiotherapist because of lower back pain. I told him about my groin tightening when walking and suspension of scar tissue or more endo. He says my psoas major muscle is affected, causing lower back pain, muscle infiltrations, and the muscles around my hip to be overexerted. We started a treatment plan, and I'm supposed to tell him what my specialist appointment concluded, next time I see him.
There is almost no information out there on groin endo. The research articles I've found have about 30 participants all together and they state that approximately 0.05 % of endo sufferers have groin endo.
I'm worried about endo growing on my femoral nerve, as I sometimes feel something (not pain yet) down my thigh.
I'm getting an MR scan in 6 weeks to get a more detailed image of the endo and then I'll figure out a battle plan with my doctor.
I would just like to now if anyone here has experienced this and what the outcome has been. Was there any nerve damage for instance?
I'm losing my mind a little bit so bear with me!
The pain is dull & near-constant, though I do have windows without it, in my left pelvic area, above the inguinal ligament (I've spent far too much time looking at anatomy). In addition to that deep ache/discomfort, I get surges of pain. It radiates to my anterior middle thigh, and low back along the iliac crest. Sometimes it feels a bit like a burny feeling, but mostly it's just a wincing/verbal reaction to a wincing pain. The surges are usually pretty short, but leave a hangover of sorts in my thigh, and groin. I've had MRI's within 2 years (for a sacral nerve issue that caused sciatica), and a transvaginal US this year. Everything seemed fine, and those two things kind of rule out the 'major' problems like a mass. So what is left to investigate? I asked about endo and was told that he didn't think it was gynecological. My pain doc who has known me for ten years doesn't think it has anything to do with the sacral nerve issue due to location/distribution of pain. They both referred me to the other, and my primary seems not interested. It's getting worse, and I feel like I am going crazy.
The only things I can come up with are endo, or a vascular issue. Can pelvic vein congestion or something like may thurner cause femoral nerve pain? I have a laundry list of issues, and sadly while all of them being very true with objective evidence, somehow it makes doctors seem to write me off as too complex (and/or too ?overreactive? to issues?).
Thanks for any pointers.
Femoral Nerve Compression
For the last week or so, Iβve had a dull ache in my left groin/front thigh. Being on warfarin for a clotting disorder, I went to the ER to check for a clot and was told that I have great arterial flow and was diagnosed with sciatica. Iβm not so sure, now.
For the last 2 days, a small portion of my skin below my left knee/right above my shin feels numb. Like, I can feel myself touching the skin and when I press harder I can definitely feel it, but the sensation is changed. I also play drums and when I was trying to flex my left foot up and down, it got harder and harder to do so the more I played. Like my quad and calf started to tire much more quickly than normal.
I lift weights and run so I donβt want the muscles to atrophy, but Iβm skeptical of working out while having these symptoms.
Iβm calling my PCP this week, but wanted to touch base with the Reddit world to see if anyone has had this problem before and what the outcome was.
Middle-aged male. Last few days I've been feeling a slight throbbing pain in my femoral nerve cluster (inside right thigh, a couple inches above the knee).
Pain is tolerable. At first I thought maybe a muscle spasm, but the pain has been ongoing, off and on, with increasing frequency, for the last 3 or 4 days.
My first thought was DVT, but the pain isnt that acute, nor is there any apparent discoloration or swelling nor have I been inactive or had any recent trauma.
Anyone hear of something like this before?

I've been dealing with chronic testicular pains for almost 2 years now!! And to top it off I've got chronic femoral nerve Irritation as a result. Has anyone else had the same debilitating experience?
I had the original βοΈ 2 years ago in March... I was looking after children in care but I physically cannot do it anymore.
I'm on tramadol, pregablin and oramorph for pain relief.
I've already been told due to the pain Iβm already in, they donβt want to operate again unless it's urgent and necessary

Well after being told physio is no good for me I'm being referred yet again to specialists. I've been told to ask for nerve conduction study to show the route course of my pains and the referred femoral nerve pain...let's see if they can figure a way to ease my pain

I agree, biggest regret. No one ever told me I could be in pain daily and require stupid amounts of pain killers just function.

Can't stop getting cramps all down my legs too
...
Just felt like I should update people with what I know is going on with me. Plus it's good to vent.
So I've been dealing with my pain for nearly 2.5 years. I've got chronic testicular pain as well as chronic femoral nerve Irritation on the right side caused by lymphatic fluid on my groin. I've gained 2 cysts post op even though the urologist says it's unrelated. I've gained a varicocele on the left side too.
I'm waiting results of an MRI on my pelvic region but an ultrasound found my left kidney is abnormal. Because of the varicocele on the same side this needs investigating. Because I struggle to walk I've got swollen ankles which causes even more pain.
>Dang man. I feel ya! Where are your cysts?
One on each testicle...

Or the time you are playing a game on the xbox to distract your kind and then twinge and boom, the pain is unreal #truestory

Hope you get some rest brother! I feel your pain!! Must be something in the air because I struggled to get comfy last night too.
Yea bud, got all sorts wrong with me post op. I found rolling my knee out to the side and bring it round to my chest as high as possible cracks some of the fluid on my groin

I know at 24 you think you are now a well lived man with tons of experience and know whatβs best for you, but trust me, you are too young to be thinking like that. If you do the surgery and end up with a fraction of the pain t
... keep reading on reddit β‘Got my diagnostic nerve blocks this past week, first in anterior scalene and the pec today. I am having a hard time telling if it is still working or not β what are Peopleβs experiences for whom the diagnostic injection did something ? How long did the effects last?
I am probably just very anxious about what my response meansβ¦ but the first injection I ended up in the grocery store 2 hours after the injection and wasted a ton of my time in there β I was so happy to not be working I donβt know if that is what caused me to be able to carry my basket without pain with that arm?? I donβt know when the injections are wearing off β I cannot tell. Right after I feel immediate results, but they have scheduled these injections for 11am β¦ which of course is when I feel the least pain throughout my day (evening is worst). I did aggravating activities, but not all my hand numbness/pins and needles or stabbing nerve pain went away for either oneβ¦ I did knitting and some upper body free weight exercises with 5-10lb. Is the effect that lifting the weights maybe didnβt make me feel like I was dying by the evening??? Help! I have spent 1.5 months waiting for these injections and cannot stop overthinking it, I want a resolution so bad.
I have found more than any physical effect, the emotional damage of having a nerve block injection. while the local anaesthetic was still working, being able to walk, cough, sneeze all without any pain just had me in tears. it made me realise how much pain ive really been in as you become to used to it, and the depression related to my sciatica has become so much worse and i have just cried and felt so hopeless. physically im not sure if ive noticed a difference yet, im still in pain. but im not sure if even having pain relief for it just to come back is even worth the mental strength that takes, before i couldnt remember what it really felt like to have no pain at all
Iβve seen it on a YouTube video, I keep getting TL questions on it, but I gotta ask: does anyone have the cojones to actually stick a needle into someoneβs neck/oropharynx?

So i was just drilling some electric chair sweeps with my friend in the gym after the fundamental class. (me 24 male blue belt my friend 33 fem purple belt) so i was showing her how to get the lockdown and the whip out movement. She get the lockdown and says " give me 50% resistance"
Ok
She get the electric chair sweep, everything its fine.
30 seconds later we start getting out of the gym.
And here is when things get weird.
I go upstairs to the lockeroom and i feel my right leg all numb.
Shit
I go home in my bike using one leg because i have no sensibility.
Get home. Shower. Little stretch and then... Something on my low ribcage on the right side. All trough my psoas.
What is happening to me?
Tonight im going to the doctor, but i will like icf some of you post stories related or something.
8 hours later i have from my top tight to the very end of mi fingers this numbness + this psoas weird numb/pain thing
Edit: im going home from hospital now. The doc made me push and pull with my legs in different directions... All normal. Lay on a side and touch all my column... Normal. He say its not a trombosis or lumbar damage. And also said i need a electromiografy. So basically no death by stroke for me guys. Tomorrow i gonna ask for an apointment with a leg specialist and start doing a follow up.
Edit2: 48 hours later im starting to feel the pinky toe of my feet. And the pain\numb thing of my psoas its a lot softer. The monday i have an apointment with a leg specialist.
I've been diagnosed and un-diagnosed with IC for years, but my main symptoms are intense urethral burning, painful pressure points in my vagina, bladder stinging/burning sensations, issues wearing tight underwear or pants, and lots of urethral pain during penetration. I've done pelvic floor PT and I take 300 mg of gabapentin daily.
I recently saw a new urogynecologist who wants me to do pudendal nerve blocks. She wants to do the injections through the vaginal wall 1x per week for 6 weeks. Never been diagnosed with pudendal neuralgia, but I'm desperate to feel better. It's been years.
Anyone have experience with transvaginal pudendal nerve blocks? How's the recovery? Does it help with urethral pain and penetration? Do you lose clitoris sensation? I can't find good answers online anywhere!
I haven't had this much head pain in a long time!
I got the blocks 19 hours ago and the pain is just getting worse. Ice hasn't helped at all.
The lightening pain that shoots through my head has now spread to my sinus area on the left side of my face. It's a weird feeling of intense pain traveling up my sinus and then feeling like I have to sneeze but never do.
This is miserable. I'm at the point in this illness that I can't work and some days can barely get out of bed. I don't know how to live like this.
My migraines have a tension component and tend to originate and radiate from the base of my skull/top of my neck. My neuro has administered a couple occipital nerve blocks, and I've had two Botox treatments for migraine.
The treatments seem to have reduced the migraine pain significantly, but I've continued to have a lot of other migraine-associated symptoms (a lot lightheadedness, some aura, food cravings, etc.), but without much head pain. The non-pain symptoms are serious enough that they affect my concentration at work and reduce my quality of life pretty significantly.
Obviously I'm glad that the pain is reduced, but it's a bit unsettling to have these symptoms without the pain, since it makes it less clear whether I'm having an actual migraine (and whether I should take a rescue drug).
Anybody experienced anything like this?
Title really says it. Itβs being done by a pain specialist near me that says itβs not common but he has done 100s over his time. Bruising is expect. I believe I am just going to his office and he is going to us a local anesthetic then block V3 and I think V2 as a consequence. I believe itβs a steroid. Reading I suspect it might make things worse before possibly making things better.
Good to note he claims he has not heard of my symptoms before. That what I present sounds like TN but also parts that do not sound like TN. He is trying to think outside the box and describes it possibly being Atypical Facial Pain but doubts it due to its rarity. Anyway his only ability is to help stop the pain and if it works then we know itβs coming from this nerve. If it doesnβt then thatβs new info.
To give prospective⦠lately if I move my tongue the same area in the back of my mouth lights up. Also feels like a muscle is spasming in the area causing like a muscle cramp⦠happens to hurt like a b*tch when it does. With all the meds the shock like pain has dropped a bit in intensity but overall the pain still comes only when I move just right. This is Neuro and Pain specialist (and Facial Surgeon and TMJ) saying the same⦠does not sound fully like TN but they just are not sure.
Anyways, post was mainly about what to expect for the nerve block. Any info is helpful. Thanks!
How long should I wait before trying a nerve block?
How much should I expect it to cost? (USA)
If you've tried it, what were your results?
