A list of puns related to "Local Anesthetic Nerve Block"
I did PRP in my big toe, and it hurt like crazy when he did it. The toe is still not great, and if I were to try regenerative again, it might be stem cells, and he might have to inject them into the tendons of my big toe if they are to heal (or does injecting the joint capsule alone effect the tendons, too?). I can't imagine being able to be still long enough through that pain for him to inject in such a small precise location/structure as the tendons in my big toe. I feel like a nerve block like they use in surgery would be called for in that situation, but stem cell places, even regenexx or bioxcellerator, usually don't have anesthesiologists or nerve block drugs on site.
vials work too, i'd just prefer to be able to use an aspirating syringe
Today I (24F, 5β2) got a deep laceration on my left pinky finger while prepping dinner. I had to get stitches, it was about a 2 cm laceration. Besides today, Iβve had a previous incident as a child involving my big toe in which my nail separated from the nail bed due to injury. In both situations, Iβve received a digital block to help the pain. The block itself is quite painful though, which makes me wonder if the pain from the digital block is worth getting a local anesthetic. Which leads to my question, what is the difference between a local anesthetic and a digital block, and why use one over the other when considering pain vs benefits?
The study is being being led by scientists at RTI International, a North Carolina-based research and development institute. It has begun recruiting active duty troops who have PTSD at military hospitals in North Carolina, Hawaii and Germany. http://www.scpr.org/news/2016/12/14/67194/researchers-study-injections-as-ptsd-treatment/
iβm tired of taking the pill every day and because of my poor memory, iβd rather have something that i donβt have to worry about taking every night. however, i deal with enough pelvic pain as it is and iβm not really looking to have my cervix punctured while fully awake with 0 numbing. i keep looking online but nothingβs coming up. does anyone know of anywhere around here that will numb you for IUD insertion?
edit: enough trying to tell me about other options. i do appreciate all of you trying to help out but iβve done my research and the IUD would be the best thing for me rn.
also, iβm starting to get fed up with some of you implying that local anesthetic is too extreme for an IUD. just because itβs not standard doesnβt mean itβs shouldnβt be, and just because you did ok with some ibuprofen doesnβt mean i want to take my chances. i shouldnt have to risk traumatization just to get birth control.
if i were in the market to have my cervix stabbed without any anesthesia, i would just sterilize myself by sitting down on one of my knitting needles. however given that we live in a somewhat civilized society, id like to think i can do a little better than that
Our expectation from past experience with receiving local anesthetic for dental work is that the effects should wear off within a few hours. It has been three weeks since she had a filling touched up. Her tongue is still irritated by the anesthetic with numbness and pain on one side. She frequently bites her tongue now because of it and has been chewing all food on the other side of her mouth only.
We're starting to worry about potential long-term effects and looking for advice.
Is it normal for the tongue to be targeted with local anesthetic when filling a cavity?
If three weeks is not excessive, when should we be concerned about lasting effects?
What recourse would we have if long-term damage has been caused by this routine work?
There are many dentists in our location. Would it be appropriate to consult with one of them regarding the issue? A lawyer?
What should we be documenting?
Any/all help is appreciated. Thanks!
I know we can calculate max dose for a particular local, but I canβt find anything on how to calculate doses if youβre mixing types.
Edit: thanks for the great replies! This makes a lot more sense now. This sub is awesome.
Additionally, this surgery will happen in the bay area so if researchers from Meta or other organizations want to study this, let me know and I can try to work with you.
Hello Everyone, I hope you are well. I am wondering if Certified Medical Assistants in Pennsylvania are allowed to inject lidocaine?
Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for your consideration!
Apologies for the rant here. I've been bleeding now for 12 weeks straight, in perimenopause, hormones all over. I'm 47 and was referred for scans and biopsies. They found small fibroids and an ablation was suggested, however there is a 12 month waiting list on the NHS and I don't have Β£4000 to pay private.
Next option was to have the Mirena coil fitted at the GP surgery in the hope it will settle my bleeding. So I booked in, and remembering how painful the biopsies were the other week with no offer of any pain relief whatsoever, not even a paracetamol, I asked for local anesthetic to be used (NHS website says this can be requested).
My surgery say they don't offer local anesthetic and just to take ibuprofen before. I'm so anxious about this, I've never given birth so my cervix isn't as dilated as other women who have and I feel like I'm being bullied in to having the Mirena fitted without local anesthetic. I asked to speak with my doctor about this and was told she has no appointments until next Wednesday! So here I am anxious as hell, bleeding still with clots and hormones all over the place, not knowing what to do!
Hi all Iβm going to the dentist today for a filling for the first time since starting Zoloft (UK).
I will need local anaesthetic , and I always check medication interactions when being give a new drug etc.
I see mixed reviews online that the anesthetic can react with the Zoloft and now Iβm super anxious about going. Anyone have any experience?
(I will obviously consult with my dentist too, but just wanted any experience)
Thanks!
hello dentists & dental students of reddit. iβm getting my bottom two wisdom teeth removed under local anesthesia & laughing gas tomorrow & was wondering if thc will affect either of these things? i know it does for general, but havenβt heard anything for local/nitrous. iβd like to take a 5mg edible tonight just to get a good nightβs sleep, but of course wonβt if it will negatively impact me. my procedure is at 10:30 in the morning if that helps! thanks in advanced!
edit: ended up taking one 5 mg melatonin gummy last night & it didnβt affect the anesthesia or procedure at all! just canβt wait until i can get high again
Can surgery be done using only local anesthetic or do you have to go to sleep?
How do you guys feel about this? A friend of mine gifted me with a bag of cocaine, 250mg. Iβve tried it a couple of times recreationally and decided itβs not really something Iβm into (despite my love for stimulants), particularly because the strongest effect from recreational use seems to be wanting to do more of it.
That said, Iβve decided to keep it around, not to use recreationally, but as a local anesthetic. I was sick the other day and vomited a little bit, which caused some acid burns in my mouth - making it very painful to eat any food, or even drink water.
Iβve used lidocaine for that before and it works, but I have to reapply it regularly as the numbing effect doesnβt seem to last very long. Seeing as I could use cocaine, a potent local anesthetic, for a medical reason (lol medical coke) I took a tiny amount of powder, probably only 1-2mg, and applied it to the affected areas of my mouth. The pain from the acid burns went away entirely after a couple minutes. I could eat, drink water, and rest without that pain. In my experience, this works far better than lidocaine does, as I only need to apply it once and swish it around a little, and the anesthetic effect lasts for around 4 hours. This also makes it much easier to sleep after vomiting while sick.
Has anyone else tried this? It seems to be a great substance for that purpose
Im going to the dentist tomorrow for a long procedure that's gonna take a while. And I thought this may make the time more enjoyable, but not if it dulls the anesthesia lol. Anyone with some knowledge on this?
I came across this story of a patient who had a nerve block performed for orthopedic surgery, but had ended up with intravascular injection, cardiac arrest, and ended up on a bypass machine.
In this scenario with accidental intravascular local anesthetic injection, assuming appropriate care afterwards, is this something an anesthesiologist can be (successfully) sued for?
I'm (19m) having all of my wisdom teeth pulled tomorrow morning with only local anesthetic. Ive already stocked up on yogurt, instant mashed potatos, ice cream, and soups. Anyone had all of theirs pulled with only local have any advice/want to tell me their experiences? How long did it take you to eat normally again?
Update: It went fine, both of the top ones were our in less than 5 minutes, didn't even feel it. Both of the bottom two were issues though, a lot of drilling and re-numbing me. I'm not really in any pain yet even though the numbing has worn off. Only regret is that I didn't eat before and im HUNGRY
Anyone else have issues with being unable to tolerate local anesthetics such as lidocaine, marcaine, benzocaine etc? I remember always having issues at the dentist as a kid because one shot of Novocaine was never enough to numb me up(I usually needed five or six shots) whereas most of the other people in my family complained that the dentist used to much Novocaine. Now, as an adult I can't have ANY lidocaine, marcaine or benzocaine because Ive developed a life threatening allergy to all three. Anyone else have an intolerance issue like that? Or am I just weird?
It was definitely a strange experience!
Got my diagnostic nerve blocks this past week, first in anterior scalene and the pec today. I am having a hard time telling if it is still working or not β what are Peopleβs experiences for whom the diagnostic injection did something ? How long did the effects last?
I am probably just very anxious about what my response meansβ¦ but the first injection I ended up in the grocery store 2 hours after the injection and wasted a ton of my time in there β I was so happy to not be working I donβt know if that is what caused me to be able to carry my basket without pain with that arm?? I donβt know when the injections are wearing off β I cannot tell. Right after I feel immediate results, but they have scheduled these injections for 11am β¦ which of course is when I feel the least pain throughout my day (evening is worst). I did aggravating activities, but not all my hand numbness/pins and needles or stabbing nerve pain went away for either oneβ¦ I did knitting and some upper body free weight exercises with 5-10lb. Is the effect that lifting the weights maybe didnβt make me feel like I was dying by the evening??? Help! I have spent 1.5 months waiting for these injections and cannot stop overthinking it, I want a resolution so bad.
I have found more than any physical effect, the emotional damage of having a nerve block injection. while the local anaesthetic was still working, being able to walk, cough, sneeze all without any pain just had me in tears. it made me realise how much pain ive really been in as you become to used to it, and the depression related to my sciatica has become so much worse and i have just cried and felt so hopeless. physically im not sure if ive noticed a difference yet, im still in pain. but im not sure if even having pain relief for it just to come back is even worth the mental strength that takes, before i couldnt remember what it really felt like to have no pain at all
