A list of puns related to "Fade to Black (1980 film)"
The passing of Roxette's Marie Fredrickson (RIP) reminded me of a song I've been chasing for over 20 years. Title describes all I remember.... Wait she had long hair, could be blonde, black or brown hair. Background might have had tree, I'm thinking a blossoming cherry tree.
PS. Been on the tubes and didn't realise how many 80s songs had the female singer laying in bed, must have been the style at the time.
Im not sure if all this is 100 % correct, but its what I remember from the movie (possibly short movie): A parent (think its dad) and his daugther live out on the prairie. The house is surrounded with tall sunflowers except for a long road going in a straight line from the house. One evening the daughter go upstairs, lays down on her bed and put earplugs in her ears. Her dad is downstairs doing parent stuff at the kitchen. All of a sudden a car comes driving towards the house, a fking huge scary man steps out of the car, walks up to the house and knocks. The dad opens a little gap to ask what he wants. Suddenly the huge man kicks the door in and starts fighting with the dad. The man is way stronger puts dads head in between the banisters of the staircase. While the dad sits there trying to get his head out, the big man goes over to the piano standing in the hallway. He then pushs the piano as hard as he possibly can straight into dads head. As the piano hits the head it makes a big "boom" and the head falls of onto the floor. The daugther upstairs now thinks she heard some noisy from downstairs, so she takes out her earphones. She then hears some loud footsteps from the stairs, and understands this isnt dad. She then quikly runs over to the bedroom-bathroom to wipe off all the ater from the sink so that the man doesnt realise that there has resently been someone there. She then runs over to the bed, throws herself under it, and cover her mouth to not make any sound. Then the man steps into the bedroom and walks around. He checks the bathroom sink, and doesnt find any water, but he unfortunately also checks the crane which the girl unfortunately forgot to wipe. I cant quite remember the rest of the film. Either the girl manage to stab the man in his back or she escapes through the bedroom window, jumps down to the car, and then drives away. Also, there might be a dig with rabies taking part in this movie, but cant say for sure. I REEEALY appreciate if someone would try to help me with finding the title of this movie. Ive been searching for it for some time now, with no results... Thanks!
I remember that they end up messing with the alternate copies of themselves in front of a log house in the same way they had been messed with earlier in the movie. There's a massacre at the end with dozens of versions of them all fighting and killing each other.
I don't remember seeing anyone but the two guys in the whole movie
The only locations I remember were a log house. The radio station with a silo attached to it and the woods.
It looked like a very low budget movie when I saw it
I'd appreciate it if anyone has the title. Thank you
I was looking at highest grossing foreign films, and I noticed that a South African film, called The Gods Must Be Crazy, somehow managed to make $200 million in both South Africa as well as abroad (it broke box office records for foreign films in the US and broke box office records for films in general in Japan).
It just amazed me how a film made nearly 40 years ago is the highest grossing African film of all time and the amount it has made is still not bad by foreign film standards.
So this is a bit of a weird one. I would have been in 3rd or 4th grade at the time, around 2010. I recall watching this in school in music class. Unfortunately I don't remember a whole lot of details, and I'm starting to wonder if this is just a figment of my imagination, but I don't think I'm creative enough to come up with something this weird.
The plot (the little tidbits I remember, anyway) were two kids acting as POV characters, a boy and a girl. The point of the film was to teach a bit of music history, and in doing so I'm pretty certain they had Bach actually show up and talk to the kids about classical composers. The reason I'm so certain of this is because I distinctly remember he had to teach the kids to pronounce his name right, as they were calling him "Batch".
Film had 80s/90s quality, which is to say not amazing.
It would have probably been about 30 minutes long.
It was designed to be educational kids content.
I'm sorry details are so sparse, and if it turns out this is just an amalgamation of my child mind I'm sorry to have wasted your time. But if this sounds at all familiar to anyone I'd be grateful for a comment, thanks!
Even when looking at a present day lens, I feel like the bulk of films in the 1970s (and possibly prior) were decent. Good writing, grounded plots, and decent acting.
How did things go so downhill in the 1980s? Was it on purpose?
My mom saw it in the late 70s/early 80s on PBS. She thinks it was on a short film program. It may have been in black and white. It was about a man who wanted to rekindle his romance with a woman that he still loved. He invited her to a nice dinner in his apartment, with candles and roses. She accepted and went over and they both fell in love again. But then we find out that he was just imagining how he wanted things to be and it shows what really happened: the woman arrives a few days after he was expecting her. The roses are dead, the food is rotten, and the man committed suicide and his body was in the bathtub. She's been trying for years to find it and every so often I try searching. Any ideas what it could be?
Edit: She thinks the actors were black.
Ok, this one's been bugging me for years. I remember a few scenes of it vividly, and the general plot structure. There are two rogueish adventurer types who meet this old king's daughter. She's dreamed of adventure since being a little girl, read books about it etc, and her father is overprotective. There is a scene early on with the two adventurers on a small greenish planetoid of some sort, trying to fend of a monster. There may have been crowds watching, a bit like a sort of arena entertainment fight.
eventually after they have met up, they go on a journey to the edge of the world. I remember them looking out over an abyss where the ground just sort of ended. They travel back and the daughter tells her father about it all, but he's gone blind and doesn't believe them. There is a shot of him with foggy, white eyes. He might have had a big white beard, and I think I remember him wearing armour too. Big stylised gauntlets etc.
Sorry for the rambling, this is my first post here.
I need your help, Reddit! When I was a kid in the 80s, I saw this sci fi, animated film which was definitely not for kids. I remember a group a heroes flying through space and there was one shocking scene that showed alien women wearing dresses with their boobs exposed! Iβll never forget my parentsβ reaction. I saw it in the 80s, but it might be from the 70s. It wasnβt Japanese anime. It was either from Europe or North America. It was not Fire and Ice, Heavy Metal, or Starchaser, but it had a similar tone. Please help! Itβs been driving me crazy for years. Thanks!

I'm pretty sure it's not Ice Pirates although it is a terrible, cheesy 80s sci-fi flick in that vein.
Iβm looking for a film I watched in 1989/1990 where near the end, two characters are fighting in some sort of river or marsh. The βbad guyβ has the upper hand and is drowning one of the good guys, when suddenly a can of spinach floats down in the water, accompanied by the Popeye theme, the good guy grabs the can of spinach and hits the villain on the head with it, allowing him to win the fight.
I think the film was shown on either BBC1 or BBC2, past the 9pm watershed. I believe it was a British film, though it could have been Australian or American, and possibly a TV movie rather than a proper film. I believe the film was probably made in the mid to late 80s. From what I can recall it was set at some sort of holiday camp, or at least featured 3 or 4 couples on holiday, possibly in caravans in a muddy/rainy site. The βbad guyβ is one of the holidaymakers who I think is increasingly unreasonable for the others to deal with until he psychotically turns to violence at the end, leading to the aforementioned Popeye/spinach fight.
Not sure if I am confusing with another film, but I think after the ending fight, the last few minutes of the film is mostly wordless with one of the couples travelling down the river in a boat or canoe, passing various terrains on shore as they travel, and they end up completely naked in each otherβs arms at the end, which I remember seeming unexpected, I donβt think there had been nudity in the rest of the film. The Popeye reference also seemed an unexpectedly silly/surreal moment compared to the rest of the film.
This is vague and obscure. I recall seeing what I think was a short clip from a low budget movie or else a low budget short. I remember it having the look of being shot on video as opposed to film.
What I recall is scene of a chef or cook for a crew on a space station or ship or possibly a base on another planet. Definitely they were not on earth. The crew was kind of rough, like they were just labourers of some kind working for a corporation. The part that sticks in my mind is the cook cracks open a large egg as he makes breakfast and out comes a Alien face hugger type creature that thrashes around the frying pan for a few seconds. He cooks it without too much concern like its all normal. I remember it because it disturbed me as a kid.
For some added detail, I live in Canada and this might have been a short film used as filler for 10 to 15 mins in between regular movies on the The Movie Network.
That's all I've got.
Films chosen should (i) have been at least relatively noteworthy in the '80s and (ii) capture the tenor of the times. Of course, feel free to balance these criteria as liberally as you choose in whatever proportions you desire. (The idea is merely to choose films that are distinctly and recognizably "80s" in theme, and not something like an underground '80s art film that--however good it may be--no one has actually heard of or associates with the decade.)
Probably italian film. Several asassinations ends in an accord between the two bands to put a puppet pope temporary. They choose a very sick bishop nearly dead but when they order he pope, they discover he was faking.
The 1980's were the first decade in which fantasy film was defined and solidified as its own genre. Whereas the genre had previously been lumped with science fiction, the 1980's saw a resurgence of interest in epic narratives in film, as well as major advances in special effects. Many of these films are known today for being gimmicky and cheesy, though at the time they were considered groundbreaking and were often big-budget, major theatrical releases, even though many of them were commercial failures.

I don't know if you can draw particular conclusion from these numbers, I was just a bit bored. Maybe that the "stalemate" in the number of movies passing $100M in the past decade or so, despite the general increase in total gross (from $9.6B in 2007 to $11.6B in 2018), implies that the studios generally prefer to focus on fewer large tent-pole movies, than to gamble on mid-budget movies. But I guess this deserves to a more in-depth analyse.
The data is taken from Box Office Mojo. Movies from 2018 are still in theaters obviously, but it seems like 'The Mule' will be the last one to pass the landmark.
I only saw the first few minutes of this film a long time ago. There were one or two spaceships, they come down to earth and it becomes apparent that they are quite small. They fly into a house and then into someone's body via a cut.
Im not a frequenter of TrueFilm so I hope youβll forgive some of my ignorance. I felt like posting this here would yield a better, wider range of results than any other film subreddit due to the seemingly vast knowledge of films here.
Iβm on a hunt for post 1950 to pre 1980 films that are visually striking. They donβt have to be well known films and can be foreign as well. Iβm trying to study the cinematography styles of films from this era and noticed that I kinda have a glaring gap in this 30 year span. Iβve seen plenty of films before and after but not much between 1950-1980. So I want to look into the films from this timeframe that stick out specifically from a visual standpoint even if they arenβt considered βgreatβ films. Looking forward to hearing some suggestions!
I've randomly caught it on TV twice, and I'm relatively sure that's the plot -- I've always come in towards the end. It was filmed sometime in the late 60s to early 80s, is japanese, and is awesome. I want to finally watch it all the way through so I can get-the-fuck-on with my life.
The teacher showed us the short film, I guess to stimulate our minds about Sociology. After watching the short film, we all tried to explain its meaning.
I wanted to say its similar in some ways to THE RED BALLOON but its not. Its more urban, city life, more about the family and being poor. Its less artistically symbolic and portrays what would be more naturally occuring archetype scenarios.
I am now in my 50s and have always wanted to see the film again.
