A list of puns related to "Energy poverty and cooking"
You spend 40 minutes getting ready to go to work plus commute, 8 hours at work, an hour for the commute home and time to decompress and take a shower....were at 10 hours now, now we have to do a bit of cleaning in the house or run some errands another hour, now we spend another hour cooking and cleaning the kitchen, 12 hours let's say we're lucky and that's it for the day...accounting for 8 hours of sleep were left with 4 hours of free time....only 4 hours of our day that we are completely free....of course we are tired we've been moving all day our feet hurt, our backs are sore, your body and brain are screaming at you to lay down on the recliner for those 4 free hours...
I'm thinking about this from the perspective of someone that wants to start a small side business like mowing grass, or going to garage sales to buy stuff to attempt to resell or even possibly start taking online college
I want to better myself so bad, but I suffer most from the poverty of time and energy.
I've really been wanting to start online college or find ways to make extra money on the side but with this huge limitation it really feels like an impossible task.
I know what comes in a typical food box and I can help you with those ingredients.
I can also help you with ingredients that come in the bulk section of your local supermarket because in that section you can get the tiniest tiniest amounts of things and be really surprised at how much you can make for yourself or your family.
I also used to feed myself with Dollar store food and I can help you out with whatever you can find there.
I could also help you make a shopping list that matches your cooking skills and budget
There are websites where you can put in a list of the food that you have and it will suggest meals, but if you would prefer to talk to someone one on one and get some advice I am here for you.

Hi all,
So my SO and I are in a bit of a pickle, the job that was lined up after their plant shut down fell through, and now we're having to scrounge until either another job or unemployment comes through. The other issue we're facing, which the title eludes to, is that we have no functioning refrigerator right now. (The wiring in our apartment is apparently crap and when a neighbor moved in to the unit next to us, after a day or two the power in half our place went out and the landlord hasn't gotten back to us yet)
So basically, I'm asking how we can better manage to both cook cheap food, but also not let too much go to waste from not being stored properly. A lot of how we've been operating the last couple of weeks has been to eat on what we make until it seems like a bad idea(somewhere between 12-24 hours, depending on what it is) and the rest goes to the dogs to help stretch their food as well. (I know, people food isn't good for them, but I'd rather have them eating bad stuff than them run out of food and starve, on top of wasting all of that food)
We feel like there might be a better way to do things, but we're at a loss, so we would really appreciate any advice you guys might have for us!
Thanks in advance!

Ok, so I figure I can list what we have here and maybe it will inspire some meal ideas as I'm running out of them!

Seasonings/other ingredients:
Sauces for cooking:
Title sums it up. Sitting here with some mac and cheese with a side of broccoli for dinner and thinking this isnβt my most impressive meal. While living alone my food choices have becomeβ¦ interesting and my relationship with cooking for myself has changed. Sometimes I would like to try harder and Iβd like to think Iβm a decent cook but I donβt always have the passion for it. The clean up and prep is so much work that I find it hard to enjoy the food Iβve made. Today at the grocery store I saw a woman with a cart of food that looked like it had been intentionally curated for specific meals. I found it admirable and so it also made me wonder how other people go about cooking for one.
Edit: Very cool to see that there are all different takes on how people approach this. Seems to be that meal prepping and batch cooking are very common followed by keeping it quick, simple and nutritious. Overall itβs a very personal experience.
Itβs affirming to read that many people do not enjoy cooking and find other solutions to get their meals. Sometimes there can be judgement towards people (especially women) who donβt have interest or skills when it comes to cooking and thereβs nothing wrong with that. The connection of loving oneself to cooking meals is an interesting one. I donβt think the two are mutually exclusive but I can see how the two can be connected.
On a personal note, I feel a little re-inspired to bump up my effort in the kitchen and try different approaches. So thank you all for chiming in!
