Hi there, I will be going into hospital next week for major surgery and will have a lot of time to kill. I am therefore wanting to buy a few books. I don't want to waste money on a book only to realise that I don't like it after a few chapters.
I absolutely loved the picture of Dorian Gray. I love the beautiful writing, and I love that it is somewhat dark as well as thought provoking. I would like to find similar books, preferably classics. Having said that, I don't like classics that are too wordy. I find overly wordy classics difficult to follow. They also cause me to zone out. I like things that are a bit dark (not horror though)/edgy/trippy. I also like underdog stories, for example Wild by Cheryl Strayed. Just to give you more context, I love classic rock and heavy metal music. I am a huge movie buff and enjoy films such as American Beauty, Almost Famous, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty etc
I just love the style of writing and I feel these three really nail what I'm looking for
Something dark. Something slightly romantic in a odd way, but also fierce. And descriptive. And poetic.
Feel free to suggest poetry as well
Does Wilde just be borrow some Posh words and throw in a bit of Shakespeare?

I was in kind of a reading slump, but after i picked up this book i just can't stop reading. I am reminded why i started reading, it was because i loved beautiful writing, texts that meant something, something philosophical, something immortal. All in all i do not like simplicity in what I read i love complex and heavy books. (P.S. I haven't read that many books so you can even throw obvious suggestions)
