A list of puns related to "Disseminated intravascular coagulation"
I'm an ER nurse and am putting together an educational presentation and poster on DIC - the target audience are ED Nurses and Doctors. As rare as it is I've seen 3 cases of this in the past two months in the ED and have taken a strong interest in the topic, hence the presentation and poster.
Can anyone point me to some good resources on the topic? I've read a few papers on it, but want to know if there are other resources I'm missing.
44, male. Barring injury what is the common cause of Disseminated Intravascular Coagulation in men or women.
Hi guys, was just wondering if anyone has any experience on knowledge on disseminated intravascular coagulation in cancer. My mom has stage 4 high grade lymphoma and started her chemotherapy last week. Everything is going fine but there have been several complications when it came to her blood. What happened first was a lot of blood loss because of the lymphoma being in the bone marrow, but the most severe complication was the DIC, which clotted a vein next to her liver and then caused severe bleeding in her stomach. I've read online that the only way to properly treat or cure DIC is to cure the underlying cause. Thankfully, high grade lymphoma has a high chance of being cured or at least going into remission, what will have to happen to make sure the DIC doesn't cause any major problems or death before my mom is able to reach remission, because there are still 5 months left of her chemo. Thank you!
This just popped up on my YouTube feed LOL. It's kind of mesmerising.

Hi! Diggin' the new sub. I'm currently an EMT and almost done with paramedic school. In my books, I've read about DIC in other conditions. It was only mentioned briefly in our trauma unit. What exactly causes DIC in trauma patients?
I know this is late but I joined this sub only recently. In the beginning of s3 e9 Barry Allen stops Oliver's blood from coagulating by giving him rat poison iv. While warfarin does stop blood from coagulating and is used as rat poison, its given orally not by an iv line and most importantly, it takes SEVERAL DAYS to show any benefit. Oliver should have been long dead waiting for the rat poison to cure him. What he needed was probably heparin
Often times due to the age demographic of my hospitalβs catchment area I get patients who are old/comorbid and therefore declined by ICU, but are obviously intravascular volume down, peripherally oedematous and 3rd spacing due to SIRS, multifactorial hypoalbuminemia, etc. Crystalloids gonna extravasate, human albumin solution will stay a bit longer but will still extravasate anyway (and it doesnβt cure low albumin no matter how many bottles you infuse boss...) Canβt reverse the comorbid heart failure/cirrhosis, unfit for definitive ongoing source control of the infection, but overall vital signs are kinda stably low. Anything more I can do?
As always, the purpose of this thread is to gather the community to explore a category of flavor and its many uses.
