In light of the recent news about Chrissy Teigen’s horrific bullying of Courtney Stodden I was reminded of another disturbing incident that happened on VH1 Couples Therapy.
Alex and Simon starred on season 2 of Couples Therapy with then 17 year old Courtney Stodden and 51 year old Doug Hutchison. Although old enough to marry at 16 Courtney was not old enough to stay in the house and be filmed around the clock due to child labor laws.
The entire house of adults bullied Courtney and refused to see them as a child whose only crime was being exploited by the adults in their life. Rather than directing their ire at the 51 year old married to a child they targeted Courtney for their revealing clothing. Simon pranced around in a Speedo after Courtney left to make a statement. At one point, Alex was so angry at Courtney for ignoring an implemented dress code she assaulted them by shoving a dollar bill up the minor’s skirt.
After Courtney was bullied out of the house (before eventually returning the next episode) the therapist Jen (who also exploited the teen by allowing her on the show) lit into the adults, and Alex in particular. “The way you behaved shocked me. In 20 some odd years of doing therapy never ever have I seen people regress like this into such adolescent behavior," she says before ripping into Alex for shoving dollar bills up Courtney’s skirt before she left.
Season 2 of VH1 Couple’s Therapy can be found on Amazon Prime. To this day Courtney said the only media personality who apologized to them was Perez Hilton.

Idk man, just knowing what we know now, and considering how much they were nothing more than giant punching bags for the public ten-fifteen years ago, I'm glad people are re-evaluating shit like that.

I’m a high-femme cis presenting heterosexual woman. Because of that and knowing I’m attracted to men, I’ve never considered that I may be more gender fluid and non-binary than I ever thought. Having Courtney Stodden especially come out as non-binary and claim they/them pronouns 1) made me do a mental exercise of applying those pronouns to myself amd I felt great relief 2) remember instances in my childhood of telling my mom I wished I was a boy. I have a lot of sexual trauma as a woman, anf also want to make sure that they/them isn’t feeling relieving because of the trauma in my life of being she/her. This is all very new to me and I don’t really know where to go for resources to help me understand myself if anyone has suggestions. Thank you.
