A list of puns related to "Complementary currency"
1: They can introduce a complementary currency for each city.
2: Make it possible to pay part of existing taxes and public service fees (water, electricity, public universities) using those currencies and give tax breaks to businesses which accept those currencies. This induces demand for the currency. If almost everyone needs the currency to pay taxes and various fees, then this induces artificial demand for the currency.
3: Spend them into the economy either through participatory budgeting (done by locals in each district of each city or each town), or pay people to do community service using those currencies, running the program through existing agencies or a new one (or through registered Non-profits or social cooperatives). Thus connecting under-utilized resources (e.g.labor) to unmet needs.
4: And so you would be able to solve various collective action problems and introduce counter-cyclical currencies that can stabilize the economy. As money stops flowing to workers and consumers during a recession, you would see an increase in the usage of the alternative currencies, allowing the flow of money to continue and preventing a further drop in consumer spending. As the economy recovers, you may then see increased usage of the national currency.
Sebastian Valdecantos with the help of EOS Argentina recently announced the port of Moneda PAR to EOSIO. Moneda Par is a digital currency that allows its users to buy and sell goods through mutual loans that have 0% interest.
Basically users can spend more than he has earned, and will be committed to give back value to the community by selling their goods in exchange for PAR tokens. While users with positive balance have the right to take from the community goods and services in exchange for their tokens.

Hi all,
As part of an extracurricular university project, I am conducting some basic research into how a possible complementary money or token system might help address some of the social, economic, educational or health issues in Edinburgh. The idea being to explore whether the creation of a complementary economic token may help to motivate particular purchases or behaviours, and support community resilience, employment, environmental sustainability etc. in a way which is not currently well rewarded.
Any contributions much appreciated. Some topic areas below, to guide our research:
Any broader suggestions for the research area would also be welcomed!
"Complementary" in the sense:
They still keep their legacy fiat currency, but allow people the option to pay taxes, fines, fees for public services etc. with bitcoin (albeit "fiat-denominated", with exchange rate acc. to the time of payment).
