Looking for ideas to fill out a ghost town ruined by a coal seam fire.

Hey pals,

Just putting together a little something and would like to source some outside ideas:

My players (party of 5, level 8. Competent/skilled) are likely to come across an abandoned dwarven village soon, that was (and still is) subject to a coal seam fire. Think Centralia for a real world example, or the persistent ashen fogs of Silent Hill.

I'm just hitting that little creative wall at the moment and am looking for some random encounters from any pillar of the game that could be fun to drop in. I'm not 100% set on having stubborn survivors still holding out so ideas that could sway me either way would obviously be welcome! I'm not against having some planar/shadowfell vibes creep in as a tribute to Silent Hill either.

Thanks in advance!

Are there any new (2018-2019) coal seam fires in southeastern United States?

If so, where is the fire located? What is the name of the mine? Is it an abandoned mine? When was the fire discovered? Do they know how it started? What fire fighting protocol(s) are being used to to manage the fire? Is it posing a risk to those living in the area? Please post any pictures and links to articles. I am looking to correspond with someone with knowledge and experience with the dangers associated with abandoned coal mines. Thank you for any info and leads.

Put out the coal-seam fires! :)

from here

>Where, for example, is the hue and cry to extinguish coal seam fires? For the average person who has been completely taken in by the β€œclimate change” mantra, this is most likely the first time the topic has been seen to be raised in public. And that is odd in the extreme, stunningly strange, in fact. There are 10,000 coal-seam fires burning out of control worldwide. Those fires pump out massive amounts of carbon dioxide β€” equal to 20% of the entire carbon footprint of the US. Hollywood schedules no concerts to β€œPut Out the Fires,” even though it would fit nicely on a T-shirt, and no one in Washington has said the first word about it. If common sense rules the argument, decades ago that would have been the first thing on the agenda: extinguish the coal seam fires. How odd that the activists of the world leap-frogged over this astoundingly obvious target and decided that dismantling the West’s industrial infrastructure would be a better place to start.

Why are coal seam fires so difficult to put out?

A coal seam fire is an underground smouldering coal deposit. The oldest coal seam fire is believed to be Australia's Burning Mountain which has been burning for the last 6,000 years. Close to 200 coal seam fires are currently burning in the United States.

One such fire is the Centralia mine fire which started in 1962 by burning garbage in an abandoned coal mine. In 1984 Congress spent $42 million to relocate residence of Centrilia, which apparently is easier than putting out this type of fire.

Pumping vast quantities of water satisfies most of our fire problems. We can put out oil well fires with explosives, so why can't we put out coal seam fires? What is more concerning, is that this is not out of a lack of interest, there is a lot of pressure to stop the burning of coal in the US and yet these fires rage on. Why?

Realistic coal seams minecraft

Hello guys!
I was wondering - how to make a realistic coal (and not only coal) seams?
I mean I want to make a realistic underground rocks layers and also make the mines deeper - for example 600-700 blocks undergound.

https://preview.redd.it/3n5rb4eih3581.png?width=677&format=png&auto=webp&s=1639e1462ff444231ed39d33068e22937e7c2701

There was a mod on planetminecraft but the guy doesn't respond and don't update the mod

I mean something like that: https://www.planetminecraft.com/project/geologically-and-topography-accurate-minecraft-map-dyaris/

Any ideas?
