A list of puns related to "Class conflict"
We were at an engagement party this weekend where the majority of my friends met my GF for the first time. One of the attendees said to me "GauntBilly, I always knew you pulled" right in front of her. I was so shocked by this horribly objectifying statement that she clearly heard, that I froze up and didn't know what to say. I obviously should've told him to knock that shit off, but I didn't. Obviously, not great of me and I regret it. I struggle to set boundaries like this and I freeze up in the moment. My GF was obviously not happy.
However, when I was talking to her about it last night, she said to me "Why do these people think they can talk about me like this, don't they know I'm from a higher social class". When I asked her what he meant, she said that they shouldn't talk to her like that because she might be someone who could get them a job someday.
Man I just don't know what to think. Obviously she has a right to be mad but Jesus Christ, I'm not sure if that's the way to do this. I've seen concerning behavior like this before. I am beginning to think she thinks that she is superior to a lot of people based on her social class. If you were in my shoes, what would you do?
tl;dr: Gf made a really classist comment while being rightfully mad at an objectifying comment made to me at a party. How can I resolve this?
I'm going to my fourth year of Journalism at Carleton, and two of my mandatory courses seem to overlap in terms of time, creating a time conflict. Specifically, the two courses in question that conflict in terms of time is JOUR4001 (Journalism Now -- and Next) which takes place on Mondays from 8:35 - 11:25, and ENGL4415 (Professional Writing II) which takes place on Mondays and Wednesdays from 8:35 - 9:55.
As you can see, the Monday portions of ENGL4415 completely overlap with the Monday lectures of JOUR4001.
Completion of JOUR4001 is mandatory for my Bachelor of Journalism degree, and ENGL4415 is mandatory for my minor in Professional Writing. Both of these courses are only offered during the Winter term during these specific times and are only offered to fourth-year students.
I just wanted to post here in order to see if anyone knew anything about what I could do, or the stories of people in similar situations. I have emailed the Journalism and English department already, as well as the registrar's office.
As well, specifically pertaining to the Professional Writing minor is the fact that ENGL4135 (Studies in Publishing) seems to be restricted to only allow those in the English program. However, it is listed as a required course for my Professional Writing minor, and this is not a restriction in place for any of the other courses in this minor.
I hope that I would not have to take an extra semester to complete one of these two classes (assuming that I'm going to have to decide between the two in the worst-case scenario).
I made my vaccination appointment about 2 weeks ago, and even then the earliest time I could get is 2 weeks from now. I didn't know back then when my midterm was, so to be safe, I picked the one weekday that I didn't have regularly scheduled class on. Now my professor is scheduling our midterm outside of class time and allowing the class to vote on it by poll. And yes, you guess it: they picked the exact day I have my appointment on. It's not even just the exact day, the midterm is scheduled 15 minutes after my vaccination appointment. (The exam is also scheduled around noon, not at night or some other time you would expect people to be normally free).
I told my professor beforehand what the situation was, and I even said I would not mind writing it earlier in the day. They said they cannot do that because it would not be fair. The best they could offer me was to move the weight of the midterm to the final. Obviously I don't want that.
Am I making too big of a deal about this? I specifically made the appointment on the one day I don't have class, and now I have to cancel it (my booking confirmation only has a link to cancel, not to reschedule). I work and am also enrolled in multiple courses, so I don't have time to look around for cancelled appointments and drop ins or whatever. I'm already waiting like 5 weeks for a vaccination appointment, and now it's probably going to be even longer. The other thing is I don't drive, so a family member and I booked the same time so they can drive me there as well. We're both a little annoyed (at the situation) because we planned it so we could go there together, and they had already booked time off work for it.
I know it's not the end of the world to reschedule, but it's just the entire thing and it annoys me so much.
I am considering taking CWL 211, but, since it is a newer class, I couldn't find much information about it on this sub or elsewhere. Has anyone here taken it? If so, I would like to hear what you thought of it. Specifically, was the class interesting and well-taught? How was the workload and difficulty? Thank you in advance.
I canβt enroll into POLSCI2O06 because it conflicts with a βclass 8122β β¦ I donβt seem to be enrolled in that class
This is really frustrating, should I email an academic advisor?
this is just very annoying
Hello! I have a question. So I want to take summer school at a CC but the problem is that it starts on June 7, so itβs near/during finals week here at UCR and Iβm afraid my counselor, or whoever is in charge of this stuff, wonβt approve it. How likely is it for them to approve it? Anyone had a similar experience or is trying to take summer classes at a CC at the same time?
Essentially, money is very tight right now from everything last year so I applied to a company Iβve actually wanted to work for since 2019. Only problem is this place is only open Monday to Friday 10-6 and I have class Monday to Thursday 11-5. I know I shouldβve done more research before applying (Iβm positive the listing asked for weekend shifts) so weβll just call this a learning experience, but is there anything I should tell them if/when I get an interview? Assuming they call back in 2 weeks, Iβll have 7 until classes start and this is my last semester until graduation, so Iβm not sure what to say when August rolls around
What's this you've said to me, my good friend? I'll have you know I graduated top of my class in conflict resolution, and I've been involved in numerous friendly discussions, and I have over 300 confirmed friends. I am trained in polite discussions and I'm the top mediator in the entire neighborhood. You are worth more to me than just another target. I hope we will come to have a friendship never before seen on this Earth. Don't you think you might be hurting someone's feelings saying that over the internet? Think about it, my friend. As we speak I am contacting my good friends across the USA and your P.O. box is being traced right now so you better prepare for the greeting cards, friend. The greeting cards that help you with your hate. You should look forward to it, friend. I can be anywhere, anytime for you, and I can calm you in over seven hundred ways, and that's just with my chess set. Not only am I extensively trained in conflict resolution, but I have access to the entire group of my friends and I will use them to their full extent to start our new friendship. If only you could have known what kindness and love your little comment was about to bring you, maybe you would have reached out sooner. But you couldn't, you didn't, and now we get to start a new friendship, you unique person. I will give you gifts and you might have a hard time keeping up. You're finally living, friend.
Personally i think the sword and whip on the new warlock ornaments are really cool additions and i wish we could have them, on other armor sets as well. i thought maybe as part of new and improved warlock class items? they always seemed a bit too low key compared to the other two... well, to me at least, your experience may vary.
Anyway it's probably not gonna happen but a man can dream, no?
Hi there! I'm really just asking this because I'm trying to find some sort of hope that this can work out.
There is a winter study abroad program that I want to do, but it ends on January 16th. However, I see UGA spring classes usually begin around the 11th-13th.
What I'm asking is, do any of you think there's a way I can work this out? Are there late-start classes?
Thanks!
