Chloral hydrate addiction.

So, as the title suggests, bit of a more obscure phenomenon today. But something the 1800s saw no doubt, rather a lot. Also, something a certain someone one has done a silly, and discovered a first hand experience of in 2021.

Little bit of a background with a shed ton of benzos (=600-1000mg Diazepam a day for 10yrs + few 2mg bars + wte else benzos here's and there's at its peak), and got a little bit fond of that Hypnotic giddiness and relaxation that CH is. Particularly the clear headedness, but highly intoxicated nature. Yeah, GABAergics are bit of a fond thing.

SO. As as I've never seen a single thing relating to this anywhere, aside some old painters and such vague and oft theatric descriptions. I thought I'd illucidate a touch on it.

What does it feel like? The withdrawal I mean. Well. Imagine alcohol and benzodiazepines had a baby in you, and that baby got kidnapped by the world's most violent syndicate kingpin. Then your little metaphoric picket fence housewife self is a trembling and panicked mess, nauseated and quivering. Sleepless, unsettled, shakey and afraid. With a pseudo-cold war all of your own, about to strike down on you into a vicious bombardment of ballistics in ever escalating drama with potential to culminate into absolute cataclysm. Having to check the phone and reread that ransom that kingpin left for you, every 2hours, without fail. Knowing the ethanol-benzo baby creature will only stay further lost each time you do. But the weight of it all makes it unbearable. Like a watched kettle never boils, but if you don't keep your finger on the same switch that'll make it blow up, even when the bubbling persists until your wiring fissures. That is what it is like.

Seeing someone in an hour or so to discuss this, err, let's say 'oopsy'. So will update what the what's come to be. As with the distinct lack of this happening or really documented any this side of this century. I've not seen either, nor much clue, what the devil the 'professionals' do.

Chloral Hydrate using Vodka and 'insert possible chlorine source

So obviously, Chloral, meets water. We have our CH. Simply put. In many countries Pure Ethanol is unattainable. Vodka having really very few impurities to disturb the process, really just Ethanol and water. If reacted with a Chlorine as per usual synthesis. Would this reaction work do you all think? Leaving a roughly 37.5-40% (ish) quantity of CH in a solution (in theory possible to crystallise too?) as the Chlorination and hydration would be occurring in the one precursing substrate. Also, best and easiest sources of chlorine to work with. In sense of cheap, easy to attain and pure enough for safety. Forgive my morning coffee waffles, just a thought I had where this compound is historically intriguing and great as an item for collectors which for many places wouldn't be so viable to create for those who just like to collect interesting compounds. I can expand a bit further to any reply, definitely need get another coffee on.

Chloral Hydrate from Chloroform and Formaldehyde

Is this realistic ? Im just interested in organic chemistry, thats why im not sure. Sadly all chloral hydrate synthesis methods I could find involved Cl2 which, well is a little dangerous without a fume hood. Chlorobutanol however can be made from Chloroform and Acetone, so I figured it should be possible to produce it with Formaldehyde to form Chloral, which then can be reacted with water to form Chloral Hydrate. Maybe even Formic Acid could be used? Not sure about that double bond & missing hydrogen though.

If this is realistic, thats a pretty neat easy way to make a good euphoric sedative without even possessing good lab equip & glassware etc.

Edit: KOH is needed too

I told myself that I wouldn't partake in this substance after my first post. Being an 'insane insomniac', I said what the hell. I bought half a kilo of the beloved chemical. Instead of stomaching its awful taste, I encapsulated it. Instead of the effects hitting within 15 minutes, they took around an hour, and I enjoy its slower onset. The peripheral numbness and the overall sense of not caring feels the same.

If you have any questions, please ask, although it may take time for me to get to them.

Webster Supprettes: Anti-Nausea (Pentobarbital + Pyrilamine) & Aquachloral (Chloral Hydrate) & Aspirin + Secobarbital Suppositories

Professional Sample of Webster Supprettes containing Pentobarbital and Chloral Hydrate and Secobarbital

This a sample that was sent directly to a pharmacy, advertising the William A. Webster Company brand of suppositories, which they called "Supprettes". This is, by far, the coolest item I have added to my collection. It came with about half a dozen pieces of paper and booklets. The three pictured are the info cards for each of the different supprettes included in the sample. The top booklet has information regarding their anti-nausea supprettes which seemed to be there most popular product. The anti nausea suppositories contain Pyrilamine Maleate 25mg and Pentobarbital Sodium 30mg (Pyrilamine Maleate is an anti-histamine that is still used in OTC pills like Midol for pain and cramping while someone is on there period, I believe 15mg per pill is the average dose). The info card on the left is for Aquachloral, a brand name for Chloral Hydrate. Each Aquachloral suppository contains 5 grains of Chloral Hydrate, which is equal to about 325mg of Chloral Hydrate (although the back of the bottle states there are 0.3grams or 300mg of Chloral Hydrate in each suppository). The info card to the right is for their aspirin suppositories containing secobarbital. Although the info card states that these suppositories contain secobarbital, the bottles only have aspirin listed as ingredients in them, dosed at 1, 3, and 5 grains. Another document included had a list of every supprette that they offer, and yet another document included was a letter sent to the pharmacist which explained that this exact same assortment of samples was sent to every physician and GP in the area.

I wonder why they sent a sample to a pharmacist, as I do not believe they are allowed to dispense samples, nor did I think physicians could write a prescription for a sample of something. But perhaps that is why this sample case is still completely intact and unused.

After some research, I could find basically nothing regarding this company or any of their products. I did unearth a court case that provided some info tho. It was a case of the FDA vs. The William A Webster Company regarding their Webster Anti-Nausea Supprettes (WANS). They were introduced at a time where they did not have to prove their effectiveness since they contained ingredients of other medicines

Supplier stated blue isn’t normal but it’s β€œlikely” just a result from oxidation of the chloral, which it does rather quickly apparently. Don’t want to consume toxic byproducts or something. The DEADLY cardiotoxic effects of Cocaethylene...OR why you shouldn't IV half a gram of coke, 2 grams of chloral hydrate, and IM 50 mg of morphine with a BAC of .20%. On the perversion of science.

I'm pissed off.

Let's be clear, I love the scientific method, I love research, and I think scientists are mostly good people.

As valuable as studies are, however, you should always be wary of those who might pervert science to further their misguided or (perhaps) malicious ideology.

For those looking for a TLDR; this is it.

READ THE GODDAMNED PAPER FIRST, THE TRUTH IS IN THE METHODOLOGY, TLDR's ARE THE PROBLEM.

Yesterday, a comment in the thread about the "Cocaine Circlejerk" inspired me to investigate Cocaethylene, a transesterification product that is formed when cocaine is consumed with ethanol.

This comment in particular led me to a study that is the perfect example of this sort of misleading science. I am omitting the user's name because I'm sure they were just ignorant and not knowingly spreading misinformation. The paper is free, so go and see for yourself.

>Redditor 1 - Ughhh, coca ethylene is extremely cardiotoxic. Why are you trying to downplay that?

>Redditor 2 - People don't like seeing their drug of choice being criticized especially when that criticism is backed up by scientific evidence. Instead of accepting the research they're more likely to double down (cognitive bias) and post stuff like this rather than admitting they're damaging their bodies with a harmful drug. The true circle jerk is the bunch of cokeheads on the internet talking about how pure cocaine is chill and not speedy and completely non-damaging to your body brah. I like drugs as much as the next guy but this shit is getting ridiculous. Responsible drug use goes out the window when it comes to this sub. http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/j.1553-2712.2001.tb01296.x/pdf

>Conclusions: Cocaine and ethanol in combination were more toxic than either substance alone. Co-administration resulted in prolonged cardiac toxicity and was dysrhythmogenic. Peak serum cocaethylene concentrations were associated with prolonged myocardial depression.

>edit: Point proven. Post had 12 upvotes several hours after writing it. Woke up this morning and it's at 2.

At first I was surprised, how could people use cocaine knowing how dangerous this is? Then I read the paper, which led to laughter and later a bout of sadness.

Now, let's get technical.

The following are direct quotes from the paper that I believe invalidate their conclusion and especially the commenter's interpretation. I will provide my calculations/dose conversions in a comment if anyone is in

Clonazolam & Chloral Hydrate Combination Trip Report

Hey guys I figured i'd write up a trip report on this combination because I find it to be a fun one. I did something similar a long time ago with 2M2B and Carisoprodol (AMAZING combo btw) so anyways here's some background information on me. I'm 6 feet tall, I weigh 160 pounds/approximately 72.57 kilograms, i'm 24 years old, and currently take 300 milligrams of Pregabalin (Lyrica) and 16 milligrams of Suboxone a day. I acquired 250 grams of Chloral Hydrate from a Chinese chemical supply company back in October I actually bought it as a birthday gift to myself haha. Also i've done this combination a few times in the past but I figured i'd actually write up a trip report on this combination because i'm down to the last of my Clonazolam so without any further ado here's the trip report.

10:15 PM: Dose .25 milligrams/250 micrograms of Clonazolam.

10:30 PM: Noticing the Clonazolam taking effect and eliminating the intense anxiety i've been feeling all day. (Thank God haha)

10:40 PM: Dose 1025 milligrams of Chloral Hydrate and put on the song Be Quiet and Drive (Far Away) by Deftones.

11:00 PM: Starting to notice the Chloral Hydrate (it feels like a cleaner alcohol feeling much like a barbiturate or Carisoprodol only more hypnotic although i'm only feeling that nice numb tingling sensation alcohol, the various barbiturates, and Carisoprodol are famous for) as well as an increase in sedation and muscle relaxation.

11:30 PM: The effects have seemed to have reached their peak with both drugs and i'm feeling pretty relaxed, calm, loosey goosey from the muscle relaxation, and like if I were to lay down to go to sleep that it would come easily.

12:40 AM: Not much has changed since 11:30. This combination usually hits me harder and is alot more euphoric when I take .375 milligrams/375 micrograms of Clonazolam but alas I only had 0.5 milligrams/500 micrograms worth of solution left and wanted to save the final .25 milligram dose for a job interview since aside from that I only have 2 1 milligram Lorazepam (Ativan) pills and half a bottle of Flubromazolam solution (the Flubromazolam is only used to end my Methamphetamine highs and binges) and I have to wait until fucking July to see my new psychiatrist to continue my Ativan and Lunesta scripts... -.-

1:25 AM: I'm starting to want to go to sleep now as I keep closing my eyes and keeping them closed for longer intervals so I may go to sleep soon. Side note, some Cannabis on top of all of this right now would be nice

Chloral Hydrate Experience

I obtained some Chloral Hydrate in a 60% solution. It tastes horrible. It has around 1g per milliliter, and I dosed 3ml.

Around 20 minutes after injestion, I experienced the effects of around 3 beers. The peripheral numbness, pain relief, and anxiety relief.

I've found that it's very habit-forming, and I've been using it for sleep for the past 4 nights, and it's essentially what I crave daily. I want to throw away the bottle.

When I do use it, to counter the terrible taste, I mix it with 2 packets of "Sweet'n Low". It still tastes bad, but the effects are so enjoyable.

I guess I'm an addiction-prone person, so today I'm getting rid of the bottle. I have Baclofen, Gabapentin, and Lunesta 3mg to get over the withdrawals.

My fair warning is to not mess with this drug, it was discontinued for a good reason.

                                                  Sincerely, fleetfan

And, if true, was this not a violation of the Catholic faith that the nun-midwives ostensibly held? Was euthanasia at all controversial in the early 1900s?
