How well do you know England's ceremonial counties?
I thought I'd create a separate quiz for each of England's 48 ceremonial counties. I've submitted 24 so far with the rest to come next week. Hopefully they are a reasonable test for UK residents but also not too obscure for those from elsewhere. You can find the series at https://www.jetpunk.com/series/33982/england-ceremonial-county-quizzes. I guess it's similar to the JetPunk series on all the countries and the one covering each US state. I'd be interested to see what you think.

TIL that "sheriff" is a marriage of two words: "shire" and "reeve", which translates roughly to "county official". The "shire reeve" job has evolved over time; while England was the first to create the position, it's largely ceremonial now.

Do please try to explain the mess that is Ceremonial Counties, Metropolitan Counties, Districts and Unitary Authorities in England.
Writing your address in England can be quite confusing. Because depending on where you live, things like the Ceremonial county, metropolitan county and unitary authority can overlap, to the point where you could live in two different counties and a Unitary authority making it confusing to tell someone exactly where you live. What's up with that? For example someone could live in the City and County of Bristol while also living in the Unitary Authority of South Gloucestershire, or the Unitary Authority of North Somerset, while at the same time living in the Metropolitan county of Avon. Every website has a different set of them to chose from, so at this point someone really needs to clear all that up and I think you're the man to do it.

What are the stereotypes of England's counties or regions?
I am from France but I have been living in London for many years and wanted to know what are the clichΓ© of England's counties? Are there any? I've often overheard bad things when people are talking about Essex, but I don't really know why.
For example in France, Brittany is known for its bad weather and people drinking too much, Parisian are not very well considered outside of Paris, some south of France regions may have a lazy reputation. Corsica people are known to be unsympathetic to tourists.

I apologise, but to preserve my sanity and also because I used the wrong subdivisions, I will be doing Scotland and Wales separately from England. Anyway, the garden of England is annihilated, and the south east is looking empty. Most upvoted county gets eliminated [ROUND 7].

Dwyle Flunking is a sport still played to this day in England. It looks like something out of The Shire and involves girting around the flonker and his dwile-tipped driveller (hoping for lots of swadges in each snurd) to win the treasured ceremonial gazunder. [rules/translation in comments]

Breaking ground for the new Harris County Domed Stadium in January 1962. As the new venue was intended as home for the Colt .45s of the National League, the traditional ceremonial shovels were dispensed with in favor of revolvers. The stadium would soon be known as the Astrodome.
