To all my fellow masters and mistresses of game, table, story, and dungeon, a Happy Boxing Day to you!
Also, I am taking this time as my annual reminder to all of you that draw your own dungeon maps that literal metric tons of gridded paper just went on clearance.
That's right, wrapping paper! Rolls (upon rolls, upon rolls) of it. With the advances in gross consumerism marketing, many wrapping papers are now printed with cute, Christmas-time or related Winter holiday designs on one side, and the other side is a plain off-white color with one-inch gridlines subtley printed in dashed or faintly-colored lines. A background that is, in no small way, perfect for those of us that play out actions and measure distances one five-foot-square at 1/60th scale at a time.
And it's all on sale. Right now. So, as you emerge from your post Yuletide slumber and regret promises of extra magic items as gifts for those unappreciative moochers known as your players, when you venture forth to acquire drinks and snacks for the table for the next session later tonight/this week/sometime before Valentine's Day, remember to check the clearance-priced rolls of wrapping paper. For those nice multi-packs with printed gridlines on the back, you just might find yourself picking up a year's worth, or decade's worth, of Mapping Paper!

I'm having trouble completing the cat herder LTW. I currently have 12 cat friends, but the counter when hovering over the lifetime wish only shows 6/15. It used to be higher but hasn't actually matched the true number of cat friendships my sim has had for a while now. It almost always goes up when I gain a friendship with a cat but then it starts to drop off again. Does anyone know of a way to fix this so that the number reflects my sims friendships? I have no cc or mods.
I didnβt know which flair to give this. Iβve got difficulties at my table and in my DMing that Iβm trying to navigate, but those specific instances arenβt the point of this post. I just had a realization but donβt feel itβs appropriate to label as advice...
Why does the DM need to be the βcat herderβ of the group? I feel like maybe that should really be someone elseβs job... the DM is already juggling enough things. Everyone should be partly responsible for pacing and keeping the table focused. You could even have a designated cat herding player if needed. You know, someone to call out distracting behaviors, watch the clock, etc. Even assist in gathering feedback from players for the DM and feedback from the DM for the players. The DM can focus on the world and how it responds to the PC actions. Why does the DM need to be the one to call a player into a private talk to discuss their problem behaviors?
Does anyone have experience to offer for or against this thought? Looking for your viewpoints.
Thanks!
Edit: Wow thank you all for the feedback! This community is great.
