Looking for American Humane Association's international press release on Heaven's Gate film (1980)

Hi all, apologies if this isn't the right place for this.

I'm currently researching for a paper I am writing on the ethical treatment of animals in entertainment. I have found that a key turning point in the animal rights movement regarding performing animals is the well known flop of a film Heaven's Gate, and how the animals were treated on set. It's a Western film, for those who haven't heard of it. Not to be confused with the cult bearing the same name!

I have found several sources stating that the AHA commissioned an international press release in protest of the film, but I CANNOT FIND the actual article ANYWHERE. I have been looking for DAYS, but have only found mentions of the press release, not the physical thing. It was most likely published in 1980, but 1979 and 1981 would be within the margin.

If anyone could help me, I would be extremely grateful.

I have tried looking on Google Scholar and plain old Google, with multiple different search queries, none of which have produced anything helpful.

  2. How often do you encounter overt or covert noncompliance by crewmembers?
  3. How common are accidental animal injuries / deaths?
  4. How does the level of oversight the American Humane Association provides compare to that of analogous organizations that monitor foreign film industries?
  5. Can you share some tricks filmmakers use to simulate on-screen animal injuries / deaths without actually harming animals?
