Aire comprimido II: tenencia, portación y uso.

How to learn Spanish - My personal experience

Hola a todos!

I have been learning spanish for a little over 2 years now and was able to reach fluency during that time. Because i often see people ask questions like "how to start learning spanish?" i wanted to share everything i did during that time period in order to give students somewhere to start.

First of all i want to say that i am a huge proponent of Stephen Krashens Natural Approach and Comprehensible Input Theory and you will definitely see that my main focus with spanish was consuming tons of input in order to acquire the language instead of actively learning it.

Keep in mind, these are just my personal preferences and completely based on my experience. You may get better results doing something else, i had a lot of fun studying spanish this way and i think thats the most important thing.

What do you need in order to learn a language?

During all this time of studying spanish, i think 3 factors have made the biggest difference in my personal journey

  • Habit: it is very important to establish the habit of doing something in spanish every day, for example listening to music, reading articles, learning some vocabulary, talking with people, whatever it is, the sooner you have this habit locked in, the faster you will see results, think about it like a compound interest, over time, you will have significant progress without even noticing it.
  • Personal motivation: even though it can be motivating to have to learn a language for your work, there is no better motivation than your personal wish to learn a language. So keep your personal motivation high, think about things why you wanted to learn spanish in the first place and studying will never even come close to feeling like a chore
  • Fun: Do things that you would normally enjoy doing in your native language. I love reading books, so i have read more than 20 books in spanish during these 2.5 years, i also love Series and Movies so i spent hundreds if not thousands of hours watching Spanish content.

Where to start?

Even though i am a proponent of consuming input, i think it is a good idea to have some basic structural knowledge of the language itself, how does basic grammar work (things like prepositions, pronouns, conjugation...).

  • AIB Spanish For Beginners Video Series on YouTube (by Dr. Danny Evans) gives a great overview of various grammatical concepts in short videos. Also check out his personal YouTube Channel "The Language Tutor" for even more Videos.

No había otra explicación lógica.

Empiezo yo: (ESTO ME DA TANTA VERGÜENZA COMO RISA)

Chicos...

[OC] [Match Report] The Clasico is back

The Clasico is back

It was an abrupt break-up. First Ronaldo, and later, Messi. When two players absorb so much of a rivalry as they did, they are bound to take some of it with them when they leave.

After what already seems years ago, Real Madrid and Barcelona found reasons last night to fall back in love with their own rivalry. The world followed.

Barcelona and Real Madrid are a match made in heaven when it comes to sporting rivalries. Two teams from two vastly different parts of a country, one that historically has been divided about many things. Politics. Food. Language. And of course, soccer.

Yesterday, and in the Saudi Arabian city of Riyadh of all places, two of the biggest, most watched and celebrated soccer clubs in the world found their stride, and they did so without Messi or Ronaldo. Without the two players who have carried the torch for the past decade.

At the top of the mountain, and likely watching last night with his kids, stands Lionel Messi, who played 35 Clasicos in a row over the past ten years. Ronaldo, who himself spent nine years at the Casa Blanca, left some three and a half years ago.

Both the Argentinean and the Portuguese stars left as number one and two in the Clasico top scorer list (26 and 18 goals respectively). They left a footprint that will be hard to smudge away.

However long it will take, that process started yesterday. It started when everyone least expected it.

On paper, Barcelona was in shambles, the problems piled up on the days prior to the semifinal. Several players had recently left the infirmary, including Araujo, who had surgery to repair two bones in his hand 96 hours before the match, or Pedri and Ansu Fati, recently recovered, but eager to play. Xavi‘s team had come out of a frustrating draw against Granada, a draw that continues to keep them outside of the top four in La Liga.

Ferran Torres, who squeezed in at the last minute as a registered player, debuted yesterday for Barcelona as a starter. Alongside him, players like Frank de Jong and Memphis Depay were absolute question marks through previous performances. Ter Stegen in need of a good run of form.

Real Madrid was theoretically going to provide its rival with the thumping of the decade.

A Clasico is always a Clasico, and one never knows what is going to happen.

In Riyadh yesterday and as it is very seldomly the case, both teams left with a net positive result: Real Madrid celebrated their qualification to the Super Cup final, and

Copa del Rey Round 3 Preview: CD Alcoyano vs Real Madrid (Jan 5, 2022)

It would not be a stretch to say that RFEF's recent changes to the format of Copa Del Rey have given the domestic cup a new lease of life. A single leg knock out tie with home advantage to the lower division rival, the cup games have become much more exciting - especially with the big name teams getting knocked out early in the last two years.

Real Madrid, owing to their participation in $upercopa de España, join in in the third round. So far so good. Things, however, get interesting when you realize our next opponent is CD Alcoyano. The same team that knocked us out last year. The game was the first time Eder Miltao ever scored for Real Madrid. But it will always be remembered for the time when Alcoyano knocked out Real Madrid and surely ranks alongside Alcorconazo as one of the worst displays of the club in the competition this side of the millennium.

#Background on CD Alcoyano

The phrase that perhaps best describes Alcoyano in Spanish is a simile that goes like Tener más moral que el Alcoyano (to have more morale than Alcoyano). It best represents the spirit of a club to always fight against adversity.

To give a background of Alcoyano, it is a club that reached the Spanish First Division for the first time in 1945 by winning the Segunda Division. They recorded their highest finish in 1947/48 - 10th. More interestingly they ranked higher than Real Madrid that season - a season where Real Madrid finished 11th. (shudders) Since then, they are yet to return to La Liga.

Currently, CD Alcoyano sit behind Castilla in the standings - equal on points - for Primera RFEF Group B (Spanish Third Division) although they are yet to face Raul's team this season. However, they have already claimed a first division sclap by knocking out their fellow club from region of Valencia, Levante UD. Funnily enough, Alcoyano was formed by the merger of a club called Levante with another local club.

Players to Watch for Alcoyano

A player to watch for Alcoyano is obviously their keeper Jose Juan. A 42 year old veteran still going strong, he played a key role as his club knocked out Levante on penalties. His exploits from last year do not need any mention since those wounds still fester among most Madridista hearts.

After Raul Guti, another player that might spark joy in hearts of Real Madrid fans is Alcoyano's Center Back, Raul Gonzalez who obviously shares no direct familial relationship to his name sake that played for Real Madrid.

Odd Scene

The scene at Christmas at Casa Soprano. Where AJ brings Blanca. IDK, there was just something 'off' about that scene. Meadow wasn't in it as she was off with Finn. Not sure exactly why they kinda 'wrote her off' of the show for several episodes when they could've shown her with Finn in CA or shown her talking on the phone like they did when she was at Columbia, etc. I thought maybe it was because she was pregnant but JLS didn't have her children until after the show ended. Or at least had her voice on the other end of the line when she was speaking with Tony/Carm. Just seems odd that she wouldn't come home for XMas.

Also, you had Tony wearing a stupid beret which I can't see him doing in front of Bobby and Christopher bc he looked ridiculous. And you also had Carmella dressed like a Christmas present.

Then the group was called to "eat" yet instead of going to the dinner table, they sat around the coffee table with little/no food on it.

I think if they had one of the Bing girls in it dancing topless with a Santa hat it would've really pulled the scene together nicely.
