Hi, Dreadit!
I'm Robert Brockway, formerly of Cracked and currently of 1900HOTDOG. I'm the author of The Vicious Circuit series from Tor. I'm having a big 99-cent sale for my newest book, Carrier Wave, until Halloween and a seriously awesome fan (hi Cerril!) just bought a bunch of copies for me to give away. I lurk the sub, and I figured you guys might like some. I didn't see much in the rules about promotions and giveaways, so I'm sorry if this isn't allowed. Let me know and I'll pull it.
Anyway, if you're interested: Carrier Wave is a post-apocalyptic horror/dark fantasy epic, kind of like Swan Song or The Stand. It's about a strange signal, and a small black spot that suddenly appears in the sky, and how they change humanity based on the things that drive us. It's sort of a zombie book to start, but it becomes much bigger and stranger as it goes. It's told like an anthology that slowly merges together into a novel, and most folks seem to like it. Seems to be US only and definitely Amazon/eBook only. Just reply below and I'll DM codes 'til I'm out. I'll update the thread when they're all gone, and thank you!
EDIT: Seems like it's winding down, so thanks everybody! Hope you all end up liking it. If I missed you, it'll still be on sale for 99 cents until midnight EST on Halloween.
Hi again r/fantasy members! F-fantasies? Fantastics? Fantas!
I'm Robert Brockway, formerly of Cracked, now of 1900HOTDOG. I'm also the author of The Vicious Circuit series from Tor books.
My newest book, Carrier Wave, is on sale today through midnight on Halloween for 99 cents! It's a post-apocalyptic horror/dark fantasy epic, like Swan Song or The Stand. Here's the description. Maybe it's more of a teaser. Kind of a threat?
>Humanity listened to the night sky. What we heard shattered the world.
>
>Listen.
>
>Just once. Thatβs it.
>
>As soon as you hear it, it has you. And once it has you, itβs over. You may think youβre in control. Youβre not. You want one more listen. You want to look at that strange spot in the sky. The one thatβs been slowly growing. The one that didnβt make senseβ¦ until you listened. You want to listen again, and you will do whatever it takes to make everyone else listen. By any means necessary. Even if it kills you.
>
>Just one more listen. One more.
>
>Listen.
It's about a strange signal and a small black spot that suddenly appears in the sky, and the ways they change humanity based on our primary personality traits. It kind of seems like a zombie book at first, until it kicks into high gear with the dark fantasy and cosmic horror. It's told as a sort of anthology that slowly merges into a novel. Most everyone who has given it a shot seemed to like it. Plus this and r/motorcycles are my favorite subreddits, and I don't think there are any motorcycles in this book. There's a bicycle!
Thank you! I love you! Too far? That seems too far. I like you a lot.
EDIT: I don't know if anyone is still checking this, but a very generous fan (Cerril, right here in the comments!) just bought a bunch of copies for me to give away. Thanks, Cerril! I don't want to spam this sub or anything, so just reply to my comment below and I'll DM you a code until I'm out.
My wife is an anxious passenger and yelled at me to pay attention to the road, so I wasn't able to convince him to pull over. How should I have gotten him to pull over? It was pouring rain and the door was open into the wind so I'm sure it was soaked inside and damaging the hinges on the door. I feel really bad because that's probably not going to make for a great afternoon for him.
Anyone else read this? I really loved it - it features a lot of somewhat "traditional" Apocalypse themes (cosmic horror, quasi-zombies) that are approached in a very different manner. The storytelling is reminiscent of Max Brooks' World War Z (only I liked Carrier Wave much more). If you've read anything similar that you've enjoyed, I'd love to hear a recommendation.
Carrier Wave is a hefty book, was recommended in horrorlit and I really enjoyed it. Anyone interested in a trade?
Louis DeJoy, the postmaster general, is a longtime Republican fund-raiser who has contributed more than $1.5 million to President Trumpβs campaigns. βNew management at the Postal Service is carrying out Trumpβs.." dastardly plans.
Overtime is being eliminated, effective immediately per Trump order. If a local post office is too busy, letters will not be delivered. Ballots not delivered by a certain date, will not be valid. Ballots not post marked for whatever reason, will not be valid. As explained to postal employees, βone aspect of these changes that may be difficult for employees is that β temporarily β we may see mail left behind or on the workroom floor or docks.β

Is there anyway to see the Carrier Waves film, made by Jonathan Zawada?
As a biker I'm so used to the biker wave (riders who give a wave to another rider) so I was pleased when I first started and noticed carriers all wave at each other when we roll by. I live in a different city than where I carry and I've had other carriers wave when I'm riding home in my city with my uniform on.

I'm curious if we all experience the same frequency of sound that comes on after a couple tokes. I've never tried to identify the note before but I'm watching ASMR atm and some girl is using a tuning fork and it just popped in my head - Do we all experience the same frequency carrier wave sound? If so, what is the frequency?
I am a musician but I've never been the best at "playing by ear" - but I should be able to figure it out now that I am looking for it. Next time I go in I'll pay attention to it and see if I can get a read on what frequency the carrier wave is.
Thoughts guys? Anyone else looked into this?
so a modem takes the digital signal from the computer and then takes its information through a carrier wave and the output is an analog signal? Is this right?
If yes, where does the carrier wave come from, is it a signal from the modem? I dont get it.
If no, then what the hell? I dont get it.
