Canola oil not smoking when seasoning. Am I not using enough?

Just got a Matfer pan a couple days ago. A decent patina seems to be building (if with a little streaking from a too-heavy application of oil when I first got the pan), but when I season my pan on the stovetop, I can't get the pan to smoke. I heat the pan over medium heat, add maybe a quarter-sized drop of oil to the pan, rub all over with a paper towel until I can't see the sheen of oil anymore, and then buff out any beads of oil I see as the pan continues to heat.

I've even tried cranking the heat up to medium-high for a few minutes at a time, and I don't see any smoke. Is this just another instance of "just keep cooking?" (I assume so.)

Is it true that before canola oil was invented, rapeseed was considered inedible?

Today canola oil is one of the fastest growing cooking oils in the world, being lauded for its nutritional contents and tolerance to low temperatures, thus it has become the go-to oil in the northern countries.

But what about before canoila was invented? What was the opinion of its source (rapeseed)?

In your opinion, why couldn’t Issa and Canola Oil stayed friends?

I’ll full stop admit that I identify very hard with Issa and the way she thinks and would probably make all the same choices she does. Take that as you will, my life is very frustrating. Regardless, I don’t see why PRE-BABY at least they couldn’t be friends and everyone was so against it. I get Lawrence being uncomfortable but once it was out there that talking about him is kinda off the table, I think they could have stayed friends and don’t exactly understand what happened there. It felt like overnight Condola gave Issa the cold shoulder. I hated the way Molly treated Issa about the whole thing too (I used to have a β€œMolly” best friend who would’ve tore my ass to shreds for doing what Issa did). I thought Issa and Condola had a genuine connection that went beyond Lawrence and it was nice to see someone enthusiastic and encouraging toward Issa for once, I wanted them to be friends and I wanted Molly to be cool with it. So, roast me if you have to, I genuinely want to know what ya’ll think.

Also, I don’t think it’s super relevant but in case it comes up I like Lawrence with Issa best πŸ˜… and once they reunited and Condola announced she was pregnant I can totally understand her and Issa not being friends under those circumstances

Want help to find percent of saponins in this mixture. It is a wetting agent from JADAM farming called JWA made with Canola oil and potassium hydroxide. Recipe below

Hey guys,

Try to make this simple as possible so in farming saponins are used to emulsify and help water be wetter in simple terms (wetting agent)

There is a popular form of natural farming called JADAM. In JADAM there is something called JWA which is the wetting agent in JADAM. The recipe is in the link below but i will also write it.

I was wondering if it was possible to determine the percent of saponins from this. Being that it is with canola oil and potassium hydroxide i figured it would be calculated and it would be considered organic chemistry. If it is something else please let me know.

If there is anything else i could provide please let me know. From my understanding there is an effect called sapponination that occurs between these chemicals

link to recipe

Steps are below

1.Get a 110 L plastic (PE) that is heat-resistant. Wash it clean. Put in exactly 2.5L (㎏) of water. Add 3.2㎏ of potassium hydroxide. Shut the lid. Roll to dissolve the caustic potash. You must use soft water.

  1. Pour in 18 L of canola oil, use an electric drill to mix until it becomes like a thin mayonaise. It takes about 10 minutes of mixing. In summer, mix well over 10 minutes. Weak drills do not work. You cannot mix with hands.

  2. Close the lid and let rest for three days. It will become like butter. If it doesn't harden or separates into layers, drill again to mix until it becomes like mayo. In the winter, do it in a warm place.

  3. Put in 20 L of water, use electric drill to separate all pieces from the walls of the container. Do not drill too much or it will turn into cream.

  4. Add 60 L of water, use a clean stick to stir. Stir the entire volume. It will dissolve completely in about 24 hours. If you do this in a cold place, lumps can sink down and the dissolving process can be slow.

  5. There is no expiry. Store in a tightly sealed bottle.
