A list of puns related to "Boogie Nights (song)"
I was wondering if anyone had some film recommendations for films of this type? That have a great soundtrack, 60s/70s/80s or even 90s vibe.
Looking for something that has a bit of depth and melancholy to it like the examples listed below. Also open to documentaries of the same sort.
Examples of films:
Other movies : 20th century women ,little women, call me by your name, Boogie nights , Velvet goldmine, walk the line? , fabulous stains, most Paul Thomas anderson films? Song to song, inside lewyn Davis, beats per minute, phantom thread, velvet underground (the recent Todd Haynes doco) & Iβm not there , high fidelity (the show and the movie) , marriage story, good time, reality bites, on the rocks , weekend , lean on Pete , the aviator
Filmmakers: Paul Thomas Anderson, Xavier Dolan , Greta gerwig/Noah baumbach, Andrew haigh, Jane campion, mike mills, Pedro almodovar
If you have tv show recommendations too?
Thanks in advance :)
This oneβs for you Bill!
I saw Simmons post this on Instagram and it made me wonder if he was finally doing Boogie Nights Rewatchables. I know he has joked that when he does that he will retire and I do wonder if that is going to happen soon.
Just a random thought I had today, but I was recalling that scene in Boogie Nights at the New Year's Eve party between Jack Horner and Floyd Gondolli.
You know the one. It's where Philip Baker Hall tells Burt Reynolds that porn is no longer profitable in theaters, and he needs to transition to making films for video so people can watch it in the privacy of their own homes. Jack resists because he's a filmmaker and believes that his work should be seen in a theater with an audience. But Jack doesn't realize that it's already too late. The fate of his art was sealed before Floyd walked into the party.
It's a heartbreaking scene, which I now view differently knowing that we may very well be in the midst of a similar transition. I can imagine a similar scene playing out today with filmmakers like PTA lobbying for theatrical 70mm distribution, only to be told by the studios that it's not economical anymore and to focus on digital instead. The box office performance of Licorice Pizza drives this home even more.
It would be oddly poetic. And a bit tragic. I hope it doesn't happen.
hey guys, so I'm super excited that Jai Paul is finally back, and to celebrate his resurrection I decided to make a mash up between his new song 'He' and Paul Thomas Anderson's film 'Boogie Nights'.... One of my hobbies is juxtaposing cool movie clips with original music to make groovy visuals.... However due to copyright laws I can't share my video on youtube or instagram. Honestly, I'm not used to sharing videos on Youtube especially with copyrighted music (I usually do it with the songs my friend produces), so i decided to tweet a short clip of the video to Jai Paul in hopes of him seeing it and perhaps giving me permission to share the full video on youtube or my personal instagram account (i know that decision is up to his label, not him), but even if he just watched it, it would mean the world. Anyway, if you guys could like or retweet the short clip I would be eternally grateful to all of you. twitter link

Hereβs my initial thoughts: Itβs probably one of the funniest films Iβve ever seen, just one subtle punchline after another. PTAs directing is absolutely impeccable, the way he builds up the humour in act 1 then shifts the tone when bill kills his wife, and ultimately brings it back home, full circle at the end. I really like the way the comedy offsets the ultimately depressing character arcs ie. Scotty was a hilarious character but deep down I felt so bad for him because of how desperately lonely he was. Also, the long, highly choreographed shots are so amazing
Watching this in a cinema finally after a covid lockdown delayed the screening for 5 months made me feel as giddy as a kid on Christmas morning. Just getting to see my favourite film in my favourite cinema with one of my best friends - it was such a beautiful experience for me! I have a relationship with βBoogie Nightsβ where Iβm obsessed and inspired by it in equal measure - going through random clips on many days on my laptop, going frame by frame to see how PTA did something and I love it!
Definitely one of the greatest cinema experiences Iβve had, and I still cannot get over that high! It feels like someoneβs injected a large dose of happiness into my veins and it refuses to leave!
Iβve seen goodfellas. I really like period piece type movies. Boogie nights is fun and exciting, yet dark and serious. Something in this similar vain. Also love something with a good period piece esq soundtrack! Thanks!
