A list of puns related to "Amanda Peterson"
Link to Vicki's message and here's Vicki's full message if the link doesn't work:
"Happy Birthday to Amanda Hills Podany, my best friend since high school. Here's a pic of teenaged us conducting a scientific study on potato chip branding. If she wasn't such a brilliant academic mind, she'd be a professional kick-ass bass player, something she's displayed often as an Auxillary Bangle.β€οΈ"
Send me a message if you know one of them!!! From Smyrna, Delaware. Can bring your wallet to you or otherwise I will bring it to lost and found inside the festival grounds tomorrow.
Okay, I know the movie Heathers starred Amanda Peterson as the bitchy blonde alpha Heather. But then I look it up on Wikipedia and I find out the role was played by some dead chick named [Kim Walker](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kim_Walker_(actress)). And then I found out Peterson got hooked and drugs and died and she's mainly known for Can't Buy Me Love.
That is crazy, son.

The MMA Hourβs first episode back aired in August of 2021 and the podcast immediately reclaimed its old slot as one of the most influential media outlets in the sport. Ariel mixed fighter interviews, analysis, and feuds with other members of the MMA world to make The MMA Hour bigger than ever. Not bad for a podcast that wasnβt around for more than half of the year.

At the same time, I wanted my Genre Mashup book to excel in every genre it smooshed together, and Between Two Fires certainly did that. As a historical, it was well-researched not just in its setting details but in its ability to convey the mindset of another place and time. As a horror, it did quietly creepy just as well as in-your-face brutality. And the vividness of the fantastical elements were on par with any high fantasy title, with character archetypes that would appeal to fans of grittier, sword and sorcery style fantasy.
Also, all of the content warnings. None of it felt tasteless or without purpose, but Iβm thinking in particular of a scene involving a dead infant and the frequent threats of sexual assault. The horror is just a lot even when youβre prepared, and Iβd hate for someone to go in unprepared.
In fact, hereβs a brief but not comprehensive list of fairly neutral things that are creepy/scary now because of this book:
OTHER BINGO SQUARES:
Backlist Book (Normal)
Revenge-Seeking Character (Normal)
Found Family (Hard Mode)
Has Chapter Titles (Hard Mode)
SUMMARY: And Lucifer said: βLet us rise against Him now in all our numbers, and pull the walls of heaven downβ¦β
The year is 1348. Thomas, a disgraced knight, has found a young girl alone in a dead Norman village. An orphan of the Black Death, and an almost unnerving picture of innocence, she tells Thomas that plague is only part of a larger cataclysmβthat the fallen angels under Lucifer are rising in a second war on heaven, and that the world of men has fallen behind the lines of conflict.
Is it delirium or is it faith? She believes she has seen the angels of God. She believes the righteous dead speak to her in dreams. And now she has convinced the faithless Thomas to shepherd her across a depraved landscape to Avignon. There, she tells Thomas, she will fulfill her mission: to confront the evil that has devastated the earth, and to restore to this betrayed, murderous knight the nobility and hope of salvation he long abandoned.
*As hell unleashes its wrath, and as the true nature of the girl is revealed, Thomas will find himself

First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.
Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.
Many thanks to u/Unknown_Seagull for recommending this weird little book to me in the distant past of 6 months ago. While I canβt meaningfully compare it to the original French version, I thought the English translation conveyed the story, tone, and style really well.
I had a dim awareness of Harry Dickson, The American Sherlock Holmes, but didnβt make the connection that this was the same author who wrote those pulp detective stories (over a hundred within seven years!) until I read the introduction to Malpertuis. It turns out Ray was asked to translate the stories from German, but found them so bad that he asked his publisher if he could rewrite them instead. The publisher was like, βSure, Jean. Whatever. Just make sure theyβre the same length and still match the covers.β
Why do I bring this up? Because this boss move is just one of many anecdotes about Jean Ray that paints a picture of a fascinating personality with a jaw-dropping work ethic and a prodigious capacity for playing games with the truth. He truly deserves an Author Appreciation post by someone more familiar with his oeuvre, but Iβll try to keep this focused on Malpertuis, a hidden gem for fans of Gormenghast, House of Leaves, and The Haunting of Hill House.
If you think that tells you all you need to know, Iβm begging you to trust that feeling and go in as blind as you can. DO NOT GO TO WIKIPEDIA. Itβs only a stub, but it describes the entire book in one line that completely spoils one of the coolest things about it. Dun do it.
OTHER BINGO SQUARES:
First Person POV (Hard Mode)
New to You Author (Hard Mode probably)
Mystery Plot (Normal)
SUMMARY: Malpertuis is a puzzle box of nested narratives wrested from a set of manuscripts stolen from a monastery. A bizarre collection of distrustful relatives has gathered together in the ancient stone mansion of a sea-trading dynasty for the impending death of the occult scientist, Uncle Cassave, and the reading of his will. Forced to dwell together for the remainder of their lives within the stifling walls of Malpertuis for the sake of a cursed inheritance, their banal existence gradually gives way to love affairs and secret plots, as the building slowly exposes a malevolence that eventually leads to a series of ghastly deaths.
*The eccentric personalities it housesβwhich include an obsessive taxidermist, a hypochondriac, a trio of vengeful sisters and a former paint store manager who has gone madβbegin to she

This year, I'm doing a themed bingo square with trans or nonbinary characters in every book. As such, I've spent a lot of time (too much time) compiling books that fit for each square. I had originally intended to post this list after finishing my board with a write-up, but seeing as we are past halfway through the bingo year and I'm on track to finish pretty late, Iβve decided to put this up early so it can hopefully actually be helpful for people still looking to fill their boards.
Books are listed under each category they fit, but I didnβt always check for some of the harder ones (eg. first person, forest setting) if they fit something obvious (eg. published in 2021, cat squasher). Books are sourced from the recommendations thread, the focus thread, the queersff database, readsrainbow, various Goodreads lists, and various threads in other subreddits. Also, disclaimer, I haven't read all these, so categorizations may be inaccurate. Please let me know if you notice that this is the case, or if there are any books I should add or remove!
Without further ado, here's my list of 250+ books that qualify for the trans/NB character square plus at least one other square:
