I've been a huge fan of this album ever since I discovered it, and so far its pretty unique imo. I don't care about the rest of their stuff, so please don't come at me talking about their emo stuff that followed this album. I'm hoping to find bands that fuse space-rock and progressive alt metal like they do on this album.

I really love the sound Jared and his band provide in that album. So, I want to find another band that sound exactly like them.
I'm probably going to get shit for it but has anyone else felt that 30 Seconds To Mars were influenced by Deftones at all? Forgot every other album (just commercial arena rock basically) except the first pretty much, I get shades of Chino in Leto's delivery at times along with there being some similar ambience and shit. Even From Yesterday (i think) is similar to RX Queen in the drumming. It's nothing too deep really, I just felt that i get reminded of Deftones whenever I stick that first record on
For a while it's occurred to me that the band completely ignores the material from their self-titled album in live performances, almost as if the album doesn't exist, and I wonder why that's the case (even the second album seems to be treated similarly).

So I recently had an urge to listen to 30 Seconds to Mars again. I liked their first album when it first came out, it was somewhat of a guilty pleasure of mine. It was right up my nu metal teenage alley and they seemed to be going for a Space/Alien/2001 vibe with their videos and to some degree with their music/lyrics. E.g. Capricorn video.
Now, I am not saying that it was the pinnacle of nu metal, but I liked it (still do actually). It's interesting, catchy and at least a little creative.
But, back to the premise. I was on the go, and iTunes music didn't have their self titled debut album, so I decided to give their later works a shot. I had never gotten around to listen to them back then. Now, it may just be nostalgia on my part, but their later albums just sounds like generic emo punk rock, lacking any of the creativity that at least made their first album interesting.
I don't know that many will have had the same experience, but I would like to know whether anyone feels the same about this development. Or maybe you think their first album was generic as well? Any thoughts?
Does anyone else wish they had stayed with the original prog-rock sound? I'm just looking for opinions here because you've obviously got good taste in music.
I really like the euphoric sound of heavily synthed out rock. Songs like Winners, Mansion World, and Flowing Glower by Deadsy, 30 Seconds to Mars (the album), and songs like Map of the Problematique and Knights of Sidonia by Muse, and Tame Impala. Any recommendations?
