Look the swarming defense with match-up zones to force turnovers is a great defense. Warriors and many other teams run it. You need to have a strong defensive center along with personnel that know how to defend in space and communicate.
Lakers just don't have it. This has been a problem all season where guards/wings can drive at will to the basket by setting one pick. Also guards and wings can generate wide open shots off picks since the center "drops".
Lakers have always made come-backs when they switched back to man-to-man.
Let's review the first quarer.
- Walker wide open 3 off the pick.He missed, but it was a high quality look. This happens every game when DAJ and AD do not switch due to the drop defense.
- Okay so you play match-up zone. Why doesn't DAJ help AD to block Randle? DAJ was benched by the Nets last season...
- Wide open 3 for Fournier after setting a pick. This is all part of the same issue of match-up zone. AB was either lost or trying to help AD guard any lobs. Easy 3 for Fournier. With a switch everything defense, this would've not happened.
- Again AB thought we were in match-up zone. He thought AD would be in the paint. He lets Walker blow-by for a wide open lay-up. Where was DAJ in the paint? I don't know this is just hard to pin-point blame when Vogel is forcing zone.
- Randle has a mis-match. DAJ is playing his match-up zone in the paint to help. Problem is THT has to box-out Noel and loses. And then Noel sets a great pick that THT was not ready to defend the open 3.

What would the 80s and 90s have looked like if illegal defense was never a thing? Would the three point revolution have taken off faster? Would iso ball have decreased a lot? What other factors would have changed? For those of you who don’t know, zone defense in the nba wasn’t allowed until 2001. Before then you had to stay within a certain distance of your man or else it was a foul. You could double team but it had to be a hard double. you couldn’t sag off of your man, you had to follow him wherever he went. This was known as “illegal defense”
This might actually be my last 2K ever, just because of the community . I get that 5-out and zone defense are actual offensive and defensive sets in the NBA, trust me. But why do y’all bring that shit to the Rec Center 🌝 ? & Don’t even bring up that “Oh ProAm takes like 10 Mins to find a game” . Dudes will literally sit on the wings and in the corner just for their PG to dribble behind screens and have 40-60 points while everybody else got 5 points and 4-6 steals . Community is full of followers . There’s not 1 game I get into in the Rec where the PG isn’t dribbling behind a screen at the top of the key . Then if the PG passes the ball to a teammate and they’re not open , they throw that shit right back from the same spot and sit in it again 💀. Like bro you not gonna attempt to do ANYTHING lol . That shit is sad . You’re playing zone and 5-out in basically a pick-up game with a third-person view then wanna flop when you beat a bunch of dudes trying to normal basketball . The days of actual fun on this game are gone lol . Nobody’s trying to play the game just to run into that shit and have their teammates quit. Then all the other team wants to do is double team until you quit because AI players suck with off ball offense and shoot dumb shots but don’t shoot when open . Even when I play with friends , we don’t do that shit . Folks spend hundreds on a game every year just to sit in the corner on offense and spam passing lanes in a zone defense on a cramped, third-person view basketball video game. Wins done became more important than having fun lol shit is sad ...
I’ve been playing 2k online for a few years and interceptor has always been annoying to play against but I feel like this year in 2k22 the zone defense paired with HOF interceptor is just so broken. People aren’t even defending anyone anymore and just sit in passing lanes because they know they’ll get it every time. I feel like zone defense wouldn’t be an issue if interceptor was at least balanced. Does anyone have any tips on how to beat the zone?
It was in the first half of the game (when it was still interesting) and he was annoyed that on third down, the Giants went man-to-man and the Bucs picked up the first easily. And he said (paraphrasing):

This was shocking to me, because it goes against the common narrative we hear a lot about how to beat these sort of QBs (can't let him "pick apart your zone coverage" is a common phrase). But, I'm going to trust Manning's analysis over about anyone else's when it comes to this.
Lakers simply do not box-out. This is a purposeful scheme by the Lakers. It's impossible that if Lakers coach asked all the players to box-out, and they don't, then the coach would call it out and make them accountable. I just don't see it happening.

They have 4.9 box outs per game and % box outs DEF is lowest at 68.9%. Lakers are actually #1 on offensive box outs % at 31.1%. This is probably not a good thing as their guys need to get back on defense.
There are many things to highlight about the Celtics game, including Westbrook had 0 turnovers in 2nd half because he was very passive on playmaking, but this post is focused on rebounding. Let's take a look how Lakers rebound vs. Celtics in 2nd half.
- Jayson Tatum Offensive Rebound - Everyone is ball watching. Melo lost Tatum where THT guards him. THT and/or Melo should've recovered to box-out but instead let's Tatum rebound and score. This might be a communication issue too. But these guys don't have a boxing out philosophy anyway. Westbrook should be going Beastbrook to try to grab all boards too.

I’ll be honest, it’s been beyond frustrating this year. Between injuries and COVID, the Hawks seem a tad snake bitten. But I believe the coaching needs to be put on blast.
Clearly this isn’t a good defensive team, and it is even more difficult with all these new faces. The rotations and switches in our man defense have been slow which has resulted in piss poor team defense. The only recent games where the defense was solid is the Cleveland and 76ers game. In both games, we simplified things by playing a bunch of zone defense. And I would love to ask the coaches why zone isn’t our main defensive style until we get Hunter back. It makes absolutely no sense

Background: Until 2001, illegal defense rules prevented teams from playing zone defense, and limited the way they could play help defense/double team. Here is an article on "illegal defense" rules until 2001. Basically, zone defense was completely illegal + defenders had to be within arms length of their man, or directly double teaming the person with the ball. For example, the way that teams like Miami and Toronto "built a wall" against Giannis (basically everybody helped on him) would have been illegal. For this reason, isolation play was very effective.

2001-2002: 23/6/5 on 42/19/79 shooting, 47% TS. Lowest PPG since his 2nd year (1985), when he only played 18 games the whole season. Career low in TS %. Missed playoffs
2002-2003: 20/6/4 on 45/29/82 shooting, 49% TS. Career low in PPG, 2nd lowest TS% of his career (only 01-02 lower). Missed playoffs.

2K should downgrade way more when leaving your assignment. People spam square to get steals and do nothing else.
It's becoming a joke to play this way.
Whenever I run zone defense it just feels like it’s first down after first down, but man defense works like a charm. Does anybody else feel this way?
