A list of puns related to "Zodiacal Light"
You can see it this week right after twilight is over: it's most visible in spring and fall and this pyramid of faint light is actually dust between the planets in our solar system, well outside our atmosphere. Check out this week's www.kawvallayalmanac.com for more details about this, biocrust, pregnant wildlife, winter flocks breaking up and the meaning of "turkey vulture kettle."
....are the headliners of this week's www.kawvalleyalmanac.com update. With the lengthening daylight in March, now is the also the perfect time to chronicle the unfolding of spring by taking regular photos of your hiking/walking landscape, capturing the many changes in the coming months. Kansas has amazing springs if you take the time to notice it!
Rough area of where and when it happened:
December 18, 2020, at approx. 2:45am SoCal area looking 305 degrees NW.
I saw an orange haze (that was as big as my thumb and pinky extended w/ arm stretched outwards) which I originally thought to be a fire happening. There was a fog rolling in traveling south and it smelled smoky outside, but there was no news of a fire happening nearby. It was not a city as it was a localized light source that popped up out of nowhere that night and didn't come back the next night. The dark silhouette in question replaced the white haze I saw online in pictures. It looked like a dark paper straw and stretched upwards into the cloudy sky above and appeared to be wobbling at the top(?). I thought it was a fire tornado but it didn't have the cone shape, and it appeared to grow in and out of transparency every few minutes. Does anybody have any ideas?
