A list of puns related to "Yaupon Holly"
Does anyone know where I can find some yaupon Holly's around here ? Out in the wild?
Does anyone know if the yaupon holly can be fermented like tea leaves in pu-erh?
My first taste of Yaupon. Not quite tea, made from a different plant: the American holly, that grows wild in Florida and Texas. This is from Florida.
Tastes like a nice mint tea but has caffeine for my morning fix. I'll try their regular (green tea) Yaupon next. I'd definitely buy this one again. Pleasant, smooth, nice.
Hello, I am searching for someone to send me yaupon holly seeds. :-) Can someone help me out?
Hi, I'm searching for fresh yaupon holly seeds. Dried seeds don't seem to be that viable. Unfortunately, yaupon doesn't grow in my area. So, I would like someone to send me some fresh seeds. They may be still inside the fruits. I actually would even prefer this. Would that be possible? I will pay an adequate compensation. It would be of great help to me.
Thank you!
My goats are clearing some brush, a lot of which is yaupon holly, which they see to particularly love. One of the goats is pregnant. I know yaupon holly has caffeine, and I know pregnant humans aren't supposed to have too much caffeine, so I'm wondering if this also applies to goats/ if anyone has had any bad experience with goats eating yaupon. Everything I've found online seems generally positive but I'm just a paranoid goat papa.
Do any horticulturists or just general plant enthusiasts know a public place I could find some Yaupon Holly? I want to make some Asi tea for my family this Thanksgiving/Christmas!
I thought Yaupon must have male and female in proximity in order to produce berries, but the salesperson at the tree place I was shopping seemed puzzled and said all of theirs were self-pollinating.
SO! My question is: is there anything harmful to the birds and pollinators I want to take care of if I got the "selfie".
Having recently learned that some of the milkweed out there is actually bad for butterflies, I wanted to be cautious.
Thank you!
I just found out that the yaupon holly shrubs here in Texas are the only native plant in America to contain caffeine. I picked a handfull or so, roasted them in the oven, and made me some tea. I read online that it contains not only caffeine but also theobromine. I drank about a cup and a half and about 20 minutes later recieved a very euphoric experience. I read that theobromine causes this euphoria, but im thinking it may be the caffeine as well. The point of this post is to see if anybody on this sub is educated enough on yaupon tea or the chemical compounds to educate me on what im experiencing, thanks.
I mean this tree/plant is considered a very weedy type of Holly for areas that would have a similar climate to itβs native region (southeastern USA-Gulf of Mexico), it was popular on decent scale that it was considered the βchocolate/cacao of the southeastern USA and Caribbean-the main export heading out of Americas. It was considered less bitter and somewhat more palatable than the camellia sinensis or the tea tree that most of the caffeinated teas are from.
Is there a good source to buy Yaupon holly seeds? I've looked on amazon but I'm not satisfied with the selection. I'm trying to grow them to make tea.
So I've always loved tea. Lately I've been trying researching the diet of native americans and I found out there is a plant native to my location that the natives would use to make their own caffeinated beverages, called Yaupon Holly, and apparently its current purpose in american society is to be an ornamental landscaping plant. So I went out and bought a dwarf Yaupon Holly to grow myself as well as scouting some growing wild in the area around me.
So as I research ways to prepare the leaves for , I find everyone has their own method of preparing the leaves, which is fine, I can try them all and figure out what I like best.
The cultures that consumed this plant have had most of their culture forcibly extracted from them. However the world has been drinking tea for a very long time on a global scale as far as I'm aware, and the diversity for the different types of tea made from camellia sinensis is such an amazing thing.
So what I would like to do is maybe borrow some of these methods used for camellia sinensis and try them out on ilex vomitoria (yaupon holly). Unfortunately I'm having trouble searching google, it just leads to brewing instructions.
So, I was just wondering if anyone here could maybe point me in the direction of some resources I could use for this endeavor. Also anyone with experience making their own Yaupon Holly tea is welcome to share their own methods.
Went to the nursery and found a yaupon holly to work on:
I've definitely caught the bug - I can't drive down the street without looking at trees and bushes to see if they would be good bonsai candidates.
I am in the states and would like to start growing Yaupon holly. This species is the only caffeine producing plant native to the united states. There are several varieties but these have been selectively bread mostly for aesthetics, ease of care, stress tollerance and not necessarily for traits that would enhance it's consumption.
Does anyone know of a good variety for caffeine content and taste?
I came home last night and noticed a bunch of discolored leaves on my Stokes dwarf yaupon holly. It seemed to happen in one day. Is this fungus?
Background Info.
-Clearance bush from Lowe's, already had light whitish powdery mildew on the leaves.
-Repotted 3 days ago.
-Tiny Roots All-Purpose Blend Bonsai Soil from Amazon
-In a 6" training pot with pebbles on the drip tray.

Fun fact, yaupon holly is the only plant native to North America with any significant caffeine! Unfortunately it's endemic to the eastern part of the US. Anybody try planting it around here? If so, were did you buy it? Moana Nursery and Rail City Garden don't seem to stock it.
Are the berries on these very poisonous? Iβve read they can be but Iβm confused why they are planted everywhere if the berries are so poisonous seems like a liability
Does anyone have experience with yaupon holly? I really like it but have kids and have heard the berries are poisonous
