A list of puns related to "Windlass"
i was thinking about buying the sergeant halberd from windlass. i was wondering if it is any good?
I am pretty sure these were discontinued so I was bummed when I couldn't find one when I was finally ready to get one. I managed to find a place that has them in stock stateside though and grabbed one. Holy crap I'm in love, especially for how little it cost. It came slightly sharpened (I didn't think they were supposed to unless you paid most places to sharpen it?). I'll work on the edge myself when I take it to my Worksharp Grinder Attachment.
It is not perfect looking like my Albion, but that's not what I wanted. For what it is, it's fantastic and everything is tight. It LOOKS like it was used by a Roman legionnaire. I cannot say enough good things about this sword. I bought it from the place below that has 6 left in stock and they were very responsive and shipped it very quickly.

I recently listened to The Aeronaut's Windlass written by Jim Butcher and narrated by Euan Morton.
This is the first book in the Cinder Spires series, a new series by Jim Butcher. Life in the spires is chaotic. Why wouldn't it be in a steampunk fantasy world where cats talk, ships fly, and the noble houses trample on those beneath them? War is in the air and only those who can harness the end will survive.
Narration: Euan Morton has a fairly nice well rounded British accent. His words are crisp and easy to understand. He also does a great job of adding emotional depth to the characters themselves, thus demonstrating his mastery of his craft.
Conclusion: This seems to be a YA book. It's clearly character driven, despite a strong plot line. The problem is that the characters fall into two groups. Captain Grimm and friends form a sort of 'Old Guard.' Gwenn, Bridget, & Rowl (a talking cat,) are clearly the new younger guard.
For reasons that aren't entirely clear, the younger more inexperienced characters are put in charge of things. This doesn't make sense or more than one level, but it's clearly a core conceit of the book.
Overall I liked this Steampunk Fantasy YA novel, as well as the loads of time it spent in world building in this first book. I think it was well done and look forward to reading more in the future.

I am a little confused about this, I was under the impression that swords made by smiths should be more expensive than swords made by manufacturers.
Yet, the two swordsmiths on the right, are actually priced at the same level as the 2 entry level manufacturers on the left. How is this possible, is there a compromise in quality?
What should I buy if I care about performance?
"a story I would not read but would watch the movie of."
TV references aside, as a fan of steampunk I jumped to buy this book and tried to gobble this up as fast as possible. Thing is, this book felt like a very underwhelming movie adaptation of a beloved book. Except it was the book, and god help us if an adaptation does arrive.
Disclaimer:
On the one hand.... I am the biggest cat person I know. I used to take care of seven stray cats on a teenager's allowance. I could have bought drugs or drinks, but I chose the cats.
On the other hand, cats ruined the immersion and worldbuilding of this book. I'm sorry.
But to the main part of my rant:
Generally, this entire book was just a colossal steampunk 'meh' full of cliches and your run-of-the-mill cast. It keeps dangling this empty, uninteresting story in front of my face as I kept looking for some more worldbuilding. The book was somewhat bloated and much of the 'empty' words could have been put to better use by enriching the world. It's a debut of a new series in a secondary world yet many writers seem to completely miss the point that the world needs to grab our attention. Show it off or my brain will show your subpar story the door.
Verdict: V
Been looking at windlass swords and theyβve got some that look really nice and id consider buying. Are they very good quality?/ how is their service? I live in canada and i believe they are us based but their prices seem good
Who is in-charge of the maintenance of the mooring winch?
Who is in-charge of the maintenance of the Windlass?
I cant seem to find any information in the internet, all it says is "the Master and Responsible Officer". Who is in charge of their maintenance really? The master or the responsible officer assigned by the Master? How does that work?
Is this normal? Also want to ask anybody else who has it. How do people deal with this? Either now or in history, isn't the pommel way too close to the handle you think or is it meant for people with tiny tiny hands? Cause if so it seems pretty heavy for that.
When I got sore from it once, it lasted several hours and the redness was on the bottom left of my right palm.
Are you meant to wrap it in something and did the people who historically used it wrap the bone/tang in something? If so what should be used?
I wonder if I should have gotten the hoplite sword sometimes. My previous sword was the 'cold steel gladius machete' and the tip broke so I had to get a new one.
I thought it would be perfect for my hand at first because I have slimmer and/or smaller hands compared to most other people but was I wrong then and my hands are not small enough?
The other problem I notice is that when I sweat the handle or grip seems to get more slippery.
