A list of puns related to "Vernacular Architecture"
We all know what the grand marble buildings and monuments look like. But average people's homes are never going to look like that. So what are the vernacular architectural styles that complement those grand marble buildings?
I think because of EGO. Why would an architect celebrate or even acknowledge an architecture, generally not 'designed' by an architect? Well, this egocentric attitude has led to massive, broken, inefficent ego-centric buildings with no relation to their local context, materials and no benefit to the local community. Why can't architects be inspired by local materials, local techniques and reference local cultures? im not saying copy, but draw inspiration. Again, I think the answer is ego, 'I must design something 'unique', that stands out, that expresses my ability to wield material, mass & form, thus I cannot even look upon the local people and their methods for building, it is beneath me." this is, of course an extreme quote I formulated, but I think you get my point. The funny thing is, most often the local techniques are very smart, very clever, efficient and often times beautiful, so why not put the ego aside & learn from them?
