EDIT: They are required to give 1-month notice to terminate contract. The motion has passed to approve ending emissions testing, which will now no longer be required to renew tags come February 4th, 2022
I have just moved to the province and Iβm looking for a used vehicle. I am not 100% sure how strict the inspections are here so I was hoping someone with experience buying used vehicles could help me with red flags when looking? Are there any common issues with used vehicle that would cause me to fail an inspection?
This post is inspired by the approximately 3.5 hours spent today trying to get my stupid silly little sticker (for a perfectly functional, safe and passing vehicle).
To see if I was just pissed off and underestimating the value of this service, I read this and scanned the Government Accountability Office's report on vehicle safety inspections.
> Still GAO couldnβt find a significant difference in component-related crash rates before and after New Jersey and Oklahoma killed their inspection programs.
and
> Other researchers failed to find statistically significant differences between crash rates in states with and without inspection programs, according to the GAO.
Ok, so there's the info. Now why am I pissed? Because it was $26 for LITERALLY 5 minutes. While I sat in my front seat they checked turn signals, headlights, brake lights and horn. That was it. Didn't appear to even look at my tires, or make sure my brakes actually worked, just lights and blinkers. Wow, such safe!
Here's my rant which no one needs to read but I still need to write:
Usually you've gotta wait around for an hour+ because no one takes appointments and you've gotta navigate some crowded industrial park where every shop has fifty old pieces of shit taking up every possible spot to park, and then, supposing you can actually find a safe place to park the inspection itself is completely arbitrary. I'd been taking my truck to the same place for more than a decade and they were thorough but not manini. Then they changed ownership and the new people failed me for 1) having a printed out insurance card and 2) having a βfuzzyβ license plate light shroud (the plate was clearly visible at night, I know because I'd just checked my tail lights).
Today I went to the shop closest to me even though I know the guy can be an asshole. He made me wait around for 15 minutes before telling me he didn't feel like doing it today. Ok? So tell me that when I walk in asking if you can do a safety in the next couple of days instead of smugly WASTING MY FUCKING TIME YOU PRICK. The second shop is a good dude that I know but he was just too busy today. I should have called ahead but I know that if the phone rings he's gotta stop what he's doing so trying to be respectful, I just dropped in. The third place I checked only does safet
... keep reading on reddit β‘I've never lived in a state that had them. Just wondered how wide spread it is. How about where you live?
I'm looking into buying a car here in ACT from a private seller, and would like to get a pre purchase inspection before pulling the trigger.
However, I notice that NRMA, RedBook etc. do not offer mobile inspections in Canberra anymore...
Any suggestions on how I should proceed on this?
I found a company that does mobile inspection in Canberra (https://www.carinspect.com.au/) but can barely find any reviews about it. Any experiences from it are welcome!
Cheers
Just noticed the other day...I was supposed to have it done by the end of October. Can I just take it in or ???
I don't have time to do ALL the vehicle inspection checklist. But, my DSP says no, no, no reporting of any issues through Amazon Flex.
How common is this response? Do you have DSP requests to not report issues? If yes, what kind of dashboard alerts do you have to deal with on a daily basis (e.g., low tire pressure)?
I'm looking for a reliable place to get my car inspected (Tarrytown/White Plains area). I've had nothing but issues with all Mavis locations. Any recommendations would be appreciated.
I am a Phoenix host and am looking to get my annual inspection done. Through the AndGo app it says it should be free at the Goodyears here in town. I have contacted them and they all say it's $20. I have contacted Turo and they say that it should be free through them. No one will actually address the issue.
$20 is not a big deal, but it's still annoying to me when they tell me I won't need to pay for this. Is this happening to other hosts?
I don't know why I didn't notice it before but a repair shop I used before charged me for $35 plus $51.50 for MA inspection.
Here is what the receipt shows. "$51.50. Check the vehicle for a MA inspection sticker.
"$35.00. MA state inspection sticker"
I've lived in MA for two years. I don't have a receipt for the previous one before this one, so asking here.
Hi Madison,
I made a post a while back about finding an apartment here; your advice was very helpful. Unfortunately, the same damn day I moved I got rear-ended, and there might be some actual damage to the bumper.
Does anyone have any recommendations for a mechanic that a) they trust who b) can take a look at my car on short notice? As best I can tell it's driving alright, but I'd like to get a sense of the damages (if any).
Thanks for your advice!
I'm a recent transplant to Lancaster's West End neighborhood, and my car's inspection will be up in a few months. Does anyone have recommendations for trusted mechanic in Lancaster that does both vehicle inspections, and repairs as needed?
Hey all, Iβm registered in NY but my insurance is asking for a safety inspection. Any ideas re places where I can get this done? Do they even do inspections for out-of-staters?
I recently leased a car from a dealer in Maryland. Dealer sent me VA plates for the vehicle which I have put it on. Right now there is no safety inspection sticker on the car
is it required to put a safety inspection sticker? And if yes, shall dealer get it done?
I can't tell if the sticker expires at the beginning or end of marked (cut-out) month on the sticker. Does anyone know?
Thanks!
I just realized last week that my vehicle's VA inspection expired on 9/21. But my license plates are still valid. My car's driver side inside handle won't always work, so I have to lower the window and open it from the outside at times. I'm scared that if I take it for inspection now, it will definitely fail due to this reason. I barely drive my car. I use it to only run errands or other basic stuff. I am wanting to buy a new car early next year, so don't really see a point at getting it inspected. Thoughts?
I own a total clunker with 210k miles and a bad exhaust that wonβt pass the state inspection straight. Iβve walked into a dozen mechanic shops and been turned down when I tell them the situation. Does anyone have any ideas how I can get it to pass? It drives fine from point A to point B!
Okay so first off, this was an 'as-is' sale and documentation was signed accordingly on 12/13/21.
Vehicle is a 1992 medium-duty wrecker (tow truck).
I purchased this vehicle from a dealer in PA.
Problems encountered, initially:
I reached out to the seller when the issue first arose and when I reached NC. He told me it was an 'as-is' sale but he'd 'see what he could do' once I knew what was going on. I'm not holding my breath though.
When my mechanic looked at it (completed 1/3/22)
All in the work cost me $2992.50 with parts and labor.
I think I know the answer here, that it's an 'as-is' sale and no loss/damage from a roadway incident resulting from above issues, so I'm SOL.
However, is there an avenue with the PA State Attorney General or motor vehicle division? I'm quite lucky that nothing bad happened on the road; a loose 150lb tire on the highway is a deadly missle. I feel like there is the opportunity to exercise leverage considering the gross negligence of the inspection station and/or dealer.
Thoughts? Comments? Advice?
Thanks!
Recently moved to Vermont. Wife went to get car inspected and they didn't give her an official fail sticker and just ended up giving her an appointment for a later date. What are the obligations to go to this appointment? Any penalties to missing it? We have heard that Vermont is much more strict about grace period things like this but i mean if she tries to cancel it or just doesn't show up what would happen.
Hey all,
I had a question I was hoping someone may have first hand experience with. Essentially, my auto registration expires at the end of November and, as such, I was planning on getting my state inspection complete within the next week or so and then pay for my registration immediately after. However, I was in a minor car accident yesterday and it looks like my car will be sent to the body shop sometime next week (at least I hope). Anyways, this puts me in a predicament because depending on how long it is in the body shop, I may go overdue for my state inspection and registration (which if this occurs, idk if I will incur additional fees or what). Anyways, are there extensions that I can get for these inspections/registration? Has anyone been in a similar situation?
Thank you.
