Svi smo svjesni toga da je Split i ostatak Dalmacije pun "ustasa". Ali to mi uopce nema nekakve logike, jer je Split kroz cijelu svoju povijest bio jak antifašistički grad i jos, ono sto je meni vrhunac ironije u cijeloj toj priči, nikad nije bio dio NDH, nego je prodan Italiji. I onda su dosle ocito neke nove generacije koje se silno ponose svojim ustaskim korijenima, a djedovi i pradjedovi su im vrlo vjerojatno bili partizani. Okrutna ironija grada Splita
Hello, I just would like to preface this by saying I am American, so perhaps other places in Europe and the world are familiar with what the Ustaše did in the 1940s. I would also like to say that I understand the sensitivity of such topics and am not posting this cause a large debate or offend anyone. I am just curious to why I had literally never hear of these events as I was told them.
Tbh the American education system isn’t super great about informing it’s populace about history, especially culture’s/nation’s history ...but I was at least familiar with the Holocaust, Rwandan genocide, Armenian Genocide, and Holomdor , Mao’s Famine, Pol Pot’s killing fields..you get the idea(not debating the details and political discussions around those^ just telling you what topics i was familiar with for context) am pretty interested in history, especially the cold war, but was never aware of this event that apparently was gruesome enough to disgust an SS officer.
So why do you think it isn’t as highlighted as the aforementioned. or maybe im just dumb, i admittedly not too informed on the region and it’s history. My first guess is that is because it makes the catholic faith look pretty bad? like my grandma is a pretty strict catholic of slovenian origin and I imagine she would not be to happy to hear about what the hope sanctioned. any ideas?
