Undynamic Puns

When I first became a fan of the NBA there was a lot more parity because teams were known for their dynamic duos instead of “Big 3’s.” We had Kemp/Payton, Stockton/Malone, Jordan/Pippen, Zo/LJ, Van Exel/Jones, Shaq/Penny, Reggie/Stits, Ewing/Starks and Barkley/KJ just to name a few. Not to say that today’s teams don’t have other good players but the central figures appear to come in pairs with a supporting cast like it used to look in the 90’s. Anyway, I love the parity and the uncertainty that comes with it. Best time ever to be a basketball fan.

Maybe a bit of a weird topic.

Just recently it came over me that I think knowing how to design a dungeon that is engaging completely without the presence of active elements would be a good foundational skill to have.

To that end I wonder what principles and features can be used when designing such a dungeon.

• Levers and triggers changing the environment is important, providing key interactivity.

• Simple traps can make exploration dangerous.

• Environmental hazards can gate passage or drain resources.

• Verticality provides a more challenge to the exploration.

• A history to the place can act as a guide for the attentive player.

• A logical geography can act as a guide to the attentive player.

• Intersecting elements connecting rooms or areas give a sense of scale and place.

• Doors and barriers can gate areas.

Edit 1:

• Dead ends

• Hubs, rooms with many exits.

• Small areas, easily and quickly comprehended.

• Large areas, difficult to comprehend.

• Thematically distinct areas.

Edit 1.5:

• Secret areas discovered through interaction or incidentally.

• One-way passages.

• Loops.

• "Shortcuts": Easier paths gated by being secret or accessible from one direction. A type of path.

• Multiple entrences (shoutout to Jacquaying the dungeon).

Edit 1.6:

• "Clockwork": Changes in sequence commencing independently (continuously or after being triggered). Moving parts.

• Difficult treasure, where retreival is a significant challenge.

• Puzzle pieces strewn throughout the dungeon/a lock with multiple keys.

• Treasure in obvious but hazardous places. Need to trigger the trap to get the treasure.

• Riddles. Optionally connected to some function in the dungeon that can be better understood by understanding the riddle.

• Tools that through their physics allow traversal. Magical or mundane.

And is there any theory of how these things combine together to create an engaging exploration or is it purely an art?

Just a fun idea I had to make a returnee season that required the Houseguests to play in pairs with their rival. I thought it would be interesting if it followed similar rules to BB9 (you're nominated together, you're evicted together), so you're forced to work with each other. Of course there would come the point where you're free on your own and can nominate whoever.

Submit ideas for any good pairings and how you think they'd fare.

2. Vanessa/Austin (BB17) - I'm actually not to sure about this one, because they did work together, but their separation is what would lead to conflict. I'm not sure though.

3. James/Natalie (BB18) - I really doubt this would ever happen if one of them got the idea that the other would be on the season, but it would be great to see.

4. Paulie/Tiffany (BB18)

5. Josh/Mark (BB19) - Would Mark really want to come back though? Again, not sure about this one. Plus I've already burned most of BB19 out of my memory, so would I really want them reignited? Ugh...

6. Brett/Rockstar (BB20) - This one would be great, they would bicker like an old married couple. But Rockstar's husband tweeted something along the lines that Rockstar saying that Brett was cool in jury, so I don't know if they've buried the hatchet on this one.

7. Tyler/Bayleigh (BB20) - This would just be a mess.

I am no developer, I am a designer who is learning about the development side of things in order to better understand how things are made. I am by no means a noob or a master, I have been building stuff on WordPress for about 8 years on the side but I never learned “the proper way” in most cases hence my ignorant question.

I just stared using Advanced Custom Fields and digging more into the guts of how WP works, and I am learning a lot. I have kept the speed of pages in the forefront of my mind and generally try to make things as efficient as I can, which brings me to my question.

I know WP is supposed to handle serving up “device appropriate” image sizes naturally, but does that work with just a simple url link (to the original uploaded version) or is there more to it? When inplementing images with ACF I use the url option as the array is a bit scary at the moment (all in due time), but I wondered how that effects the image size vis a vis WP and device relative images. And for images referenced in a stylesheet, does WP adjust those based on the user device?

Basically, my understanding of how images work in WP is lacking, I have always implemented images in the most basic HTML/CSS ways and, though I am researching on my own, I wondered if any of you kind people had any advice as far as using images and how best to leverage them in the speedest way possible in WP.

TLDR: I don’t wanna be the dummy forcing someone to download a hi-res photo when they are viewing my site on an iphone 4 (but I do want someone on a nice big hi-res monitor to get the best image possible).

So I’ve been producing for a little over a month now, and I’m learning fairly quickly (doesn’t mean I still don’t have a lot to learn though). One thing I’ve picked up on is the ability to hear and to use compression. In my personal experience, I very rarely see the need to use compression. From my understanding, it kind of levels out the loudness of a certain sound, in exchange for taking away the dynamics. That being said, I’ve come to learn that compression can be very easily overdone, leading to a very stuffy, undynamic mix. In some instances, I choose to forego compressing my tracks altogether. Funny enough, I even forget to compress my tracks half the time, and no one ever bats an eyelid when I do. I just wanted to ask, how necessary is compression really, if at all? I’d appreciate your perspectives on this.

I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.

Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.

For context I'm a Refuse Driver (Garbage man) & today I was on food waste. After I'd tipped I was checking the wagon for any defects when I spotted a lone pea balanced on the lifts.
