Hello all! This has puzzled me for years.
My (Ukrainian/Canadian) family has always called Π²Π°ΡΠ΅Π½ΠΈΠΊΠΈ: 'pedaheh.'
I once asked my Ukrainian teacher who implied it might be a regional spelling or term but I've never been able to find a cyrillic spelling of it.
Does anyone:
A) have the spelling or, B) know how this term came to be?
I'm told my baba used to be fluent, so why does this raise more questions than answers. She looked puzzled when I came home from school saying diff terms π

Hello r/ukraine I'm looking for websites (apart from Duolingo) to learn Ukrainian.
I'd like to visit Kyiv next year so I thought I should give your language a try and also for the fun of learning something new.
Can you recommend any online courses? I'm not sure if there's any Ukrainian university or school offering courses for foreigners who want to learn the language (my native language is Spanish).
My goal is learning the basics in order to travel but I'd also like to achieve more that just that.

Hello, my girlfriend is writing a master's thesis on a subject of Mythological phrasemes in Ukrainian and Polish phraseology (ΠΡΡΠΎΠ»ΠΎΠ³ΡΡΠ½Ρ ΡΡΠ°Π·Π΅ΠΎΠ»ΠΎΠ³ΡΠ·ΠΌΠΈ Π² ΡΠΊΡΠ°ΡΠ½ΡΡΠΊΡΠΉ ΡΠ° ΠΏΠΎΠ»ΡΡΡΠΊΡΠΉ ΡΡΠ°Π·Π΅ΠΎΠ»ΠΎΠ³ΡΡ) and a goal is to write about both equivalents in those two languages and the differences between them. She has gathered some literature about it, but it would be a big help if you could also recommend some literature, with examples and maybe comparison of mythological phrasemes in those two languages, that is available online in PDF. My Twitter suddenly changed language from English to Ukrainian. Does anybody knows how do I change it back?
This may very well be a controversial/contentious post. Yesterday one of my professors stated that the difference between Spanish and Catalan is smaller than the difference between Russian and Ukrainian, is there any truth to this? How are similarities between languages in the same family measured? I, personally, am far more familiar with romance languages than Slavic languages and this statement really stuck in my mind.
