A list of puns related to "The Ricky Gervais Show"
On a recent Remembering Project where the boys interviewed Gervais, Hamish credited Ricky with inspiring the direction of their show (in the sense that they wanted to make more of a podcast format).
I have been a fan of RSK (Ricky/Steve/Karl) for about as long as H&A. Their XFM radio show is much funnier than the Ricky Gervais Show podcasts, and I wondered if anyone else here listens to them? If not, it's a genuinely fantastic/hilarious show, and it leaves you scratching your head wondering how the hell they got away with some of the things they said on radio.

Firstly, thanks to everyone that gave feedback on my post a few months back. Great to know the community agrees such drivel is worthy of academic study. There's a genuine fascination in how something so bad can be so good.
Anyway, from your recommendations I managed to get in touch with Rhys who's studying for a PhD in contemporary comedy at the University of Sheffield and actually does a bit of stand up himself. Like our beloved Karl he's from Manchester and was aware of the podcasts, but had never listened to any of the radio stuff.
He instantly fell in love with The Ricky Gervais show and we've been trying to track down listening figures to see just how popular it was back in the day. After a few weeks he said he might actually change the course of his PhD to focus more on one of the worst radio shows in history!
With the lockdown lifting in the UK, we actually agreed to meet up in a safe, socially distant manner in Hyde Park last weekend. I was sitting on a park bench waiting for him when I heard my name called. Looked around, couldn't see anyone, thought that's a bit strange. Heard my name again. I looked up in a nearby tree and I couldn't believe it. Just sitting there, little monkey fella. I said 'Are you Rhys, the Manc?' and he went 'No, I said I was a Rhesus macaque.' Mad world, innit?
Does the show cover all of the podcast or would it be better to listen to the podcasts instead?
The part when Karl's talking about the tribe that only counts using small amounts:
"I'll have one of them. And another!"
Please help! Thanks
The scene: Ricky said he likes New York because no two people are all the same then Seinfeld said thats true everywhere but after a moment of thought - and this is important because he thought about it and still decided to say it - Seinfeld said except in China. (on second thought it's not just looks the same it's IS the same inside and out)
Like fuck, I was a fan of him but that is some racist bullshit. He tries to justify it later in the name of comedy but admits it's a cliche and Seinfeld who is always criticising others for bad jokes had to have known he was making at best a bad joke BUT he just didnt give a fuck
*And in the episode with Eddie Murphy, he shows how much he cares about making an offensive joke when he says hes not sure if he can use a joke about how when two homeless people are talking, it looks like one is giving the other advice. WTF how is that offensive at all and less offensive than calling Asians the same? But he made the crack about Asians anyway
Even Gervais who as host twice attacked actors at the Golden Globes when he shouldve celebrated them had enough sense to hit the brakes on what Seinfeld said
And though Seinfeld meant it as a dig towards Chinese people, he could have easily been talking about any Asians including Asian Americans
Later they talk about how it's funny until it's your group being criticized but Seinfeld would never make a simliar stereotypical joke about any other race and would be up in arms if it was made about jews
Asians are not fucking doormats or robots just like jews are not all money grubbers
Alriteeeee.
The De Trout Spinners Podcast here. Over the next couple of weeks we'll be talking to Lisa Ullmann who was the Executive Producer of the animated series, The Ricky Gervais Show between 2010-2012.
Really excited to get a unique perspective from someone who worked behind the scenes during this particular era of RSK, so if you have any questions do let me know!
Alright, this one's a hard one, and my memory is effy but I got the jist of it. Since I don't know the details and it's only a small part of a full episode, it's proving really hard to find.
Basically, Ricky and Steve are asking Karl a question, sort of a riddle, and it gets Karl confused. I think they ask him: how, if he was to send a video to someone in the future (or maybe the past), could he prove that he was in that time period. Karl replies that he could hold up the days paper but Ricky says that wouldn't work because he could simply get an old paper and pretend it's that day. Karl says he could say what the weathers like outside but again they say to him he could simply guess that or know it some other way. I think he also tries to give a really specific answer like what Susan ate for lunch or something but Ricky tells him that there would be no way to know if that's right so that wouldn't work either.
I'm pretty sure I remember it ending with Karl saying "Alright forget it, it's impossible then" and Steve and Ricky burst into laughter.
I was thinking about this exchange they had so asked my gf a similar question. She couldn't answer it either so I tried to look up the video and hence now I'm here. Thanks in advance.
I know it couldn't come close to having what Ricky, Steve and karl had, but I'm looking for something new to listen to, Athletico Mince with Bob Mortimer is good, does anyone know of any others?
Has anyone noticed whenever Karl refers to certain things the animations are a bit skew? I put this down to British things not translating to potential american animators and would just like to see if anyone could confirm this/ has also noticed this.
Examples that come to my mind:
Beans on toast - it looks like kidney beans on toast
Munchies - are shown as crisps, I always thought Karl was referring to those chocolate caramel squares with the biscuit in the middle
Houses/ streets - everywhere is semi-detached with huge houses, even Manchester and inner London
There's probably more...
In the last episode of season 2 Karl seems down and cannot wait for the season to be over. How did xfm or Ricky convince him to do season3?
Iβm a video editor and got to thinking...it wouldnβt be too difficult to create some new episodes of the show. I am in the process of cutting up all of the shows and organizing them, but there is plenty of content in the animation of them simply talking, that I can match the clips up to some of the audio that wasnβt animated and bingo, we have some new episodes. If anyone is interested Iβll let you know when I have the first one done!
I thought originally that it ran from 2001-2005 from s1-s4.
Until I heard Karl saying in one episode that he was 33 1/2 - meaning it would be 2006. (I think, if math is right) so this really confused me because I thought the episode was from 2002-2003 or something. Then I heard later in that SAME episode, that it was 2010, which was doubly confusing, because that would mean that Karl couldn't be 33 and a half, but would be 37... Then, to make things worse, the Tom cruise Clive warren episode mentioned that it was almost 2013..
Can someone help me to understand why this is?
I have a question about the show. I have watched almost every episode and was never more amused but Iβve heard them in the show refer to it as a βpodcastβ but would someone tell me where I can access this podcast or what itβs called? P.S: Obviously I know that The Ricky Gervais Show was just extracts of this podcast and not original audio. Thanks in advance.
But at the same time they are perfect to just listen to and imagine as well!
It's ok to not wash your hands after going to the loo. But if you eat a lemon drizzle cake and lick your fingers you must wash your hands before picking up the pool que.
Wearing aftershave is weird
Its not ok to fart in the toilet even if your suit is hired.
Feel free to add your own to the list.
I canβt remember the exact quote, I fell asleep pissing myself to it and woke up, chuckled about it again and canβt seem to locate it since.
EDIT: Many thanks to r/YabbilyDoobily for sourcing this - a cracking listen if you havenβt already! Conversation starts at 29:50 SOURCE
Kath: If you don't believe in heaven and hell and all that, why don't you just go around raping and murdering as much as you want?
Tony: I do.
Kath: What?
Tony: I do go around raping and murdering as much as I want, which is not at all.
Other coworker: 'cuz he's got a conscience.
and I still donβt know what a fucking Congress tart is
How much would it cost to animate a one hour podcast? Similar format to the Ricky Gervais Show
