A list of puns related to "Taino"
Thereβ¦I said it.
I've seen a few people poke fun at some Caribbean people who claim to be Tainos, but I'm curious if you've encountered the other extreme - people who deny that Tainos ever existed. My impression is that these types are more common in Jamaica than the so-called "Taino LARPers."
Here's an example, though I don't recommend watching that... I didn't make it more that a minute or two without letting out a loud KMFT and closing it, but it has 3 million views.

I'm Hispanic and Latina and I've been told that some of my ancestors, particularly my Puerto Rican great grandfather were mostly taino. I would assume that the rest of my ancestors were spanish and african. Would that in turn make me taino?
I am btw half Puerto Rican and half Dominican
Hello! I'm half Puerto Rican, I have no clue how much of my ancestry is Taino, but I am interested in knowing more. What percentage of Taino does a person need to claim Taino heritage? Do they need to know this percentage? I know it is different for different groups and if I read correctly, there is no blood quantum for Taino heritage. I am asking because I want a better understanding of my heritage and ancestors. Thank you!
Surely the Spaniards communicated with them enough to fully understand and speak their language, did no one bother writing it down? What's the point of documenting only part of a language whilst leaving the rest out?
Everything I'm reading says the museum is between Playa Blanca and Playa Serena beaches but that's something like a 3km stretch (unless I'm looking at the wrong places). Are the sculptures spread out that entire distance or is there a more exact location?
My question to you all is do they recognized tribes see us Taino/Boricua/Puerto Ricans your brothers? We see you guys as ours. Iβve always felt someway when other Americans try to say us Puerto Ricanβs dont have indigenous blood, when our words have become part of the American lexicon. We still use these words in Puerto Rico with many of them because words in English. Barbecue, Hurricane, and hammock just to name a few. Not to mention weβre the first people Christopher Columbus went and fucked up. I feel you guys are my brothers and i wanted to know if you recognized tribes feel the same. πthank you.
Hi all. I am an amateur writer, currently writing superhero fiction. I would like to introduce a Bahaman super with water-powers, who wields a magical artifact. Probably some sort of spear or staff. Looking at images of Anacaona, I see her depicted as wielding several different forms of staffs. Such as one that looks like the headpiece is a sun? I am definitely open to suggestions if anyone has ideas for historical Taino weapons or symbols of status.
I wanted to name this artifact after the sea itself. So I have been looking for Taino words for "Ocean", "Sea", etc... I have had no luck. The nearest I have come is the word Ni for water, and Ama' for river or body of water.
Does anyone have any answers for a Taino ocean-centric name? Or for what would be a historically appropriate item?
I want to do more research on the brujerΓa thatβs more specific to my heritage but a lot of brujerΓa books tend to be Mexican specific. Iβm not Mexican so I didnβt want to search up on closed practice things if it is, but itβs all I seem to be able to find online. Can anyone help? Much appreciated <3
Hi all! First time posting. My mom and I recently moved my grandmother into assisted living. I ended up with several mounted small Taino sculptures that apparently my grandmother and grandfather got a hold of on their travels. He unfortunately drilled little threading holes into the sides of them to mount them. I must clarify that we are white and Northern European. It feels wrong to keep these beautiful pieces of Taino history threaded onto velvet wooden boards in my living room. Are there any museums or cultural centers in the Pacific Northwest/USA that I should reach out to in particular regarding these sculptures?
Edit: thank you so much for all of the insightful feedback and resources! I was able to find out that they had been picked up in a rural area in the northern region of the Dominican Republic. Apparently my mother had originally taken them to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC to have them dated and verified authentic. I will be sure to do everything I can to get them back to their country of origin. I obviously welcome more feedback and resources, and I appreciate all of your time and this opportunity to learn.
There's been uproar in the indigenous community about non Natives using white sage to cleanse their homes, causing a shortage for indigenous folks. Since I'm still learning about the Taino and their practices, what would be a sustainable alternative to white sage that our ancestors may have used to cleanse their homes and rid themselves of bad energy? Rituals and practices are welcome of any kind.
I am really interested in reading out her, but itβs hard to look up information on her. If anyone has book, websites, podcasts suggestions, that would be great!
It surely has to be based on this. I find them too similar.
It might not, however I found a similarity.
I saw an image of these in Puerto Rico and thought that it was very reminiscent of Zant.

Iβm Puerto Rican and Dominican and I turned out to be 10% indigenous on my 23andme results with mostly European and Sub-Saharan African. Iβve been really interested in Taino mythology and their gods. Are they similar to other gods like Thor or Zeus or from other mythologies from around the world? I want to discover more about taΓnos and how they lived.
So why I bring this up? Europe Paganism is kinda growing now. Even Norse Pagan is quite spreading but I never heard of anyone speak of Taino and their Deities to the point people would praise on it as modern Taino Paganism.
Do you speak or write Taino? I'm interested in translating something to Taino so I can incorporate it into my daily meditation. Are there any dictionaries you recommend?
Is it 0.001% true or 0.000001% true?
Something tells me he just grabbed some stuff of Wikipedia but I want to confirm
