A list of puns related to "Sweeney Todd"
We've gotten revivals of company and assassins. Am I the only one who'd absolutely love to see a Broadway revival for into the woods and Sweeney Todd? Into the woods has to be my all-time favorite Sondheim musical and I love the pro shot starring Bernadette Peters,Joanna Gleason, chip zien and Danielle ferland. I'd love to see an into the woods Broadway revival with Patti lupone as the witch. If they revived into the woods or sweeney Todd...who would you like to see star in it?
Gender and age of auditioner? Male - 29
Show/role sought? Sweeney - absurdly ambitious as my first ever audition
Vocal part? - Baritone
Song ideas? - My Friends (Sweeney Todd)
Access to practice accompanist? No
Venue? (meaning, community theater, high school, college, etc.) - Local Opera House - Community amateur production
So, the poster for auditions went round in November with guidelines saying to prepare a song from the musical and an ambiguous "music will be provided", we may be asked to read and dance (odd, as you rarely sing from the show auditioning for and there's very little dancing if any in Sweeney).
Today, the opera house have emailed out to say to prepare any song and just bring sheet music for the pianist. No monologue, no dancing. I'd been practicing My Friends religiously until I got the flu in December and my laryngitis is literally just clearing up today, so I haven't been able to do any prep work...
Is it an absolute no-no to perform a song from Sweeney? Or do I stick with My Friends? Honestly, I'm half wondering whether to even audition anymore given I was already being ambitious and haven't been able to practice for a month
Sweeney is one of my favorite shows, and it holds a special place in my heart for innumerable reasons. I'd love to share it with my boyfriend, and even though musical theater is not his thing, he's excited to experience it (though admittedly, he may not know it's a 2+ hour operetta). Which recorded version of the show do you all think would be better to show him: the classic 1982 stage production or the modern-yet-more-accessible 2014 concert production?
I was sitting in tech class yesterday and I heard βThe Ballad of Sweeney Toddβ playing, so started singing to it. Obviously. The teacher asked if I knew Sweeney Todd and I said yes. So it turns out the musical next year is going to be Sweeney Todd. I have approximately 4 months to prepare for this, what should I do. Iβm around 14, slightly short, and male. I would love to play Mrs Lovatt but lots of older, taller people, probably far more talented will probably be auditoning. I think Toby is far more realistic so thatβs what Iβll set my sights on. What should I do to prepare?

The musical film Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, directed by Tim Burton, is an anomaly; it takes all of the pre-existing musical types and tropes, merges it, and creates a completely new type of musical. It incorporates elements of backstage musicals, operettas, and some aspects of an Astaire-Rogers musical. The film takes place in Victorian London after the titular character and ex-barber Sweeney Todd (Johnny Depp) returns from Australia after an exilement of 15 years on a fraudulent charge given by Judge Turpin (Alan Rickman) and his little, rat-faced side-kick Beadle Bamford (Timothy Spall). He comes back with two objectives: he wants to kill Turpin and the Beadle for the false charge and reunite with his wife Lucy Barker (Laura Michelle Kelly) and his daughter Johanna (Jayne Wisener). He tries to accomplish this with the help of his downstairs neighbor Mrs. Lovett (Helena Bonham Carter), who is an eccentric and hopelessly lonely woman who owns a failing pie shop, and the young sailor who brought Todd back to London, Anthony Hope (Jamie Campbell Bower). Together, Todd and Mrs. Lovett come up with a completely immoral way to get what they both want, which involves killing people and baking them into pies. Since the film is devoid of any real spectacles or suspension of disbelief, Burton employs many other creative elements to help separate both realities of narrative and musical, which includes applying transitionary sounds, a change in color, and dynamic dialogue which are all mentioned in American Cinema / American Culture, a textbook written by John Belton.
Since the film lacks any suspension of disbelief, Burton had to turn to other methods of differentiating between the narrative world and the musical world, by incorporating some elements of an operetta musical. As is customary for these types of musicals, he utilizes the dialogue as a means to a successful transition between both worlds, but Burtonβs version is not as pronounced or obvious as in other musicals. This method is applied in almost all of the numbers, but more specifically in the number βA Little Priestβ with the line, referring to the fraudulent local Italian barber Adolfo Pirelli (Sacha Baron Cohen) who was just killed by Todd, βDonβt suppose heβs got any relatives thatβs going to come poking around looking for him. Seems a downright shame, seems an awful wasteβ (Sweeney Todd 01:06:05-01:06:20). Mrs. Lovett utters these words before the number actually

There's about to be a Sweeney Todd production where I am, so I want to throw some ideas around!
Here is the info as per the format in the rules:
Gender and age: Female, 30 Show/Role: Sweeney Todd - Beggar Woman or Ensemble Vocal Part: Soprano, range from about F3 to A5 more comfortably Song ideas: I thought of songs I am really comfortable with and have studied thoroughly, such as Le Jazz Hot and Anything Goes. Completely open to new ideas! Access to practice accompanist? Maybe? I have a voice teacher but they're not pianists
Any help appreciated!
I wanna watch it, I like the environment of watching stuff live but is it worth the watch?
Hi, all! I know someone uploaded this a few months back, but they didn't respond to my request for a re-up. Just to clarify, I'm looking for the currently licensed Sweeney libretto/vocal book from MTI, not the old published libretto.
Thanks in advance!
Looking for some Halloween vibes for the rest of October but not sure what will hit the spot! The title includes my favorite spooky shows and movies. I know they're sort of all over the place but hopefully you can still pick up on a general vibe.
