A list of puns related to "Substance Misuse"
I'm considering going into HGV driving as I'm really struggling to get employment and have no desire to go back into my old industry.
I'm currently working as a temp van driver and I really enjoy it and would love to do professionally.
I'm currently DIY due to the waiting times and am wondering if this would be considered substance misuse or potentially lead to me failing the medicals?
Any advice??
I know this may be a touchy subject for some but Iβm feeling pretty alone at the moment. Iβve struggled with alcohol mis use for a few years and believe me when I say Iβve tried all the things. Iβm only recently diagnosed with bipolar at 31 so treatment is also new. But Iβm really struggling to let go of this coping mechanism. Iβve done AA, rehab, medication, other forms of sobriety and still fail. Can anyone else relate?
I got myself into addiction not so recently. A real one this time. I can't pass it off as a habit. I don't even see the perks but I always want it. Sad to say but it easily triggers my psychosis. Auditory hallucinations and paranoia. The only thing that has kept me coherent is my awareness that they are just symptoms. It's not so bad if I know it's not real. That it's just in my head. That it might or might not go away by tomorrow. That even if it doesn't I'll still be able to walk around off my face.
I saw a post a few weeks ago from someone talking about how the tension/anxiety of this whole situation has encouraged them to up their alcohol intake. Everyoneβs circumstances are different and some people can afford to gamble on this freely, while others will feel a heavy punch every month squirrelling away shares or fractions thereof. Stress is real.
I donβt want to sound preachy. The opposite. I just want people who are struggling to seek help, sooner rather than later.
I used to drink. Too much. Far too much. I never had a drink problem though; I had an anxiety problem, a self-esteem problem, the usual bullshit. Drink was how I coped but I never fixed the root issue until I stopped. Other people use other stuff to cope.
Was it hard to do? Not as hard as I thought. I read a great book by Allen Carr and it changed my life. Whatever does it for you, search for it, but support is key and donβt accept βcopingβ with life.
My worry after reading the post last week is that it reminded me of my mindset when I used to drink. I genuinely used to think if I won the lottery, all stresses and barriers would be removed, and yet still I only imagined floating on a boat somewhere and drinking without being hassled or judged. What a waste of my life that would have been. Now, post MOASS, I will see the world, explore, help people less fortunate: live life to the fullest.
I am in no way telling people not to drink or even so drugs. Do what makes you happy. But if it isnβt making you happy, change it now before you have more money and time than you know what to do with.
For an unhappy soul thatβs a dangerous combination. I really hope this hasnβt come across as preachy or a rant. If it helps one person, it was worth the time it took to write.
Hi, can anyone do this survey for my niece please? Sheβs doing a Masters in Psychology and needs 50 more participants.
What is the reason for this research? We are conducting research on substance abuse and emotion. For this study, it is important that we collect data from participants who DO and DO NOT have a history of addictions or substance misuse. You can participate if you are over 18 years old.
Who is carrying out the research? The data are being collected by Caitlin Thomas, MSc Clinical Psychology and Mental Health student at Swansea University. The project supervisor is Dr. Kathrin Weidacker. The research has been approved by the College of Human and Health Sciences Research Ethics Committee.

So I am trying to break into the substance misuse field and was wondering what do others thinks are the biggest challenges supporting service users in this area and how do you overcome them?
Thank you x
I smoked weed from the age of 16 to 24, pretty much screwed up my life and I ended up joining the Army to get away from my addiction. I'm 37 now and haven't touched it for 13 years. Good luck to all of you trying so hard, I want you all to know, it can be done, and you will thank yourself when you come through it. The good news is that, unlike other drugs, the cravings for weed completely disappear after time and you won't even think about it at all eventually.
Anyway, I have been reading a lot about ADHD, and it's links to substance misuse, and I have seen a lot of symptoms which I feel I exhibited through the majority of my younger years. Thought I'd post it on here, thought it might help some of you guys. Maybe some of the coping mechanisms for ADHD might actually help you with your addiction.
I dunno, hope it helps. Good luck guys, don't let the assholes get you down.
Alcoholism is one of the most dangerous forms of drug addictions known to mankind. It bothers me that people treat alcohol any differently than other drugs. In my personal opinion, I believe alcohol (in the context of addiction or problematic behavior) is more dangerous than weed, and possibly even cocaine. From personal experience with drugs, I have made the most irresponsible decisions while under the influence of alcohol. People donβt realize how mind altering alcohol can be, even compared to psychedelics. As out of my fuckin mind as Iβve been on LSD or mushrooms, Iβve always been reasonable with my actions, but alcohol is a different story. It will give you the confidence of a fucking Viking and will lead you to believe that any sort of behavior that runs through your mind is acceptable. Not to mention that you can easily kill your self with consuming too much alcohol, where as specifically cannabis and psychedelics donβt have a reasonable lethal dose that anyone would be willing to consume in one session.
To be fair, alcohol is also not a monster. It is perfectly acceptable to have one or two drinks every night. The issue is with the way weβve been educated about alcohol, that in the eyes of society, it is the βsafeβ drug. It boggles me that you can sit in a cell for the rest of your life for having certain drugs, that are completely harmless, but you can walk into pretty much any store and buy yourself enough alcohol to drink yourself to death in one night with no legal repercussions.
I'm going for TS/SCI, and filling out the SF86. I have one time use of Adderall not prescribed to me. It was not bought although not sure that matters.
I'm being told it should go in Section 23.5: Misuse of Prescription Drugs, and NOT in Section 23.1: Illegal use of drug/Controlled Substance because it's a prescription drug.
Is this correct? I'm assuming it wouldn't go in both as that's redundant, but I'm not sure which.
I am aware that one of T21 qualifying conditions is substance misuse disorder, and am trying to identify a T21 prescriber who has the skills to work with someone who is a recovering heroin addict who also has PTSD.... would be grateful for any suggestions please
Any hard data would be appreciated. Can a decent amount of people get away with taking MDMA, cocaine, methamphetamine, or heroin occasionally, moderately, and responsibly? Who are these people? What profile do they have?
I would guess that most people who try these substances do not develop and issue, and likely still a majority can continue to use in moderation.
Whoever these people are, I would also guess they do not use drugs as coping mechanisms for severe anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, etc. Perhaps they have families, good or meaningful jobs, and are at least mid-road middle class?
Hi, my name is Emily Maclean and I am looking to recruit participants for my third-year project investigating whether personality traits related to psychopathy can be associated with substance misuse within the general population and why this association occurs as part of my BSc (Hons) degree in Psychology. During the survey you will be asked to fill out three questionnaires. The study should take around 15 minutes to complete. You have to be over 18 to complete the survey.
When participating all answers will be anonymous and confidential. Participation is completely voluntary and you can leave at any time or skip any question you may not wish to answer.
If you would like to take part please go to the following website: https://greenwichuniversity.eu.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_e9uudN5EO7XhIHj
If you have questions about taking part in the study, please contact me at em9521e@greenwich.ac.uk.
Hey y'all. I'm the host of the Choose Your Struggle podcast, discussing issues of Mental Health, Substance Misuse & Recovery, and Drug Use & Policy. I just wrapped my first season and I'm spending the offseason (6 weeks or so) rebranding. But I don't want my stream to be silent. AND I want to use this period to help a few like-minded hosts. So if you're down to discuss cross promotional partnerships, send me an email at Jay at JayShifman dot com. Or through my website www.JayShifman.com. DON'T MESSAGE ME HERE. TBH I never remember to check the messages on Reddit.
Thanks!
