A list of puns related to "Sogdiana"
This is a bit unorthodox for this sub, but I thought ya'll might find this tid bit of history interesting! I was reading through Arrian's Anabasis of Alexander and came across this awesome feat of alpinism.
In 327 B.C. Alexander had just defeated Spitamenes, the leader of the Sogdian and Bactrian resistance, when he was informed that the remaining Sogdians who still wanted to fight back had fled to the Sogidan Rock, a fortress that was thought to be impregnable by the Sogdians and Bactrians. [0] Alexander arrives at the beginning of spring.
>When Alexander approached it, he found it precipitous on all sides against assault, and that the barbarians had collected provisions for a long siege. The great quantity of snow which had fallen helped to make the approach more difficult to the Macedonians, while at the same time it kept the barbarians supplied with plenty of water. But notwithstanding all this, he resolved to assault the place; for a certain overweening and insolent boast uttered by the barbarians had thrown him into a wrathful state of ambitious pertinacity. For when they were invited to come to terms of capitulation, and it was held out to them as an inducement, that if they surrendered the place, they would be allowed to withdraw in safety to their own abodes, they burst out laughing, and in their barbaric tongue bade Alexander seek winged soldiers, to capture the mountain for him, since they had no apprehension of danger from other men. [1]
>He then issued a proclamation that the first man who mounted should have a reward of twelve talents, the man who came next to him the second prize, and the third so on in proportion, so that the last reward should be three hundred darics to the last prize-taker who reached the top. This proclamation excited the valour of the Macedonians still more, though they were even before very eager to commence the assault. [1]
>All the men who had gained practice in scaling rocks in sieges, banded themselves together to the number of three hundred, and provided themselves with the small iron pegs with which their tents had been fastened to the ground, with the intention of fixing them into the snow, where it might be seen to be frozen hard, or in

I've already chosen Samarkand as capital, but regarding religion, I'm unsure if either picking Yazidism or remain Zoroastrian. I've moded my religion icons, so Yazidism gets the beautiful peacock feather icon from EU4 once they become mainstream, but Zoroastrism is more fitting of a proper Persian ruler. Their burials aren't my thing, tho.
Manicheism is a third option, albeit I don't like it too much. It also lacks a lot of flavor compared to Zoroastrism.
Buddhism makes for a decent fourth option, and last on the list is Nestorianism. Which one would fit better a semi-historical Empire?
As a note, I'm gonna play as Saman-Khuda on the Charlemagne start, laying low with whatever religion I pick until I can carve my own realm and break free from the Taids.

Description:
Sogdiana resisted the invasions of the Gokturks and Huns after its independence from the Greco-Bactrians, the Sassanians and the Kushans, and managed to keep a foothold in Central Asia while participating in many wars and having its borders shifting throughout the centuries. It resisted the islamic invasions and helped Bactria and its neighbouring allies defeat the muslims as well, so Islam has a far smaller domain in Asia. The Mongols would never step foot deep into Central Asia due to the large concentration of Iranic tribes such as the Scythians, since the territories of the Huns would have been much smaller to allow Sogdiana to survive them. As such, most of Central Asia except parts east of Syr Darya would have been Indo-European and non-muslim to the industrial era, where the Russian Empire colonises Central Asia much like in our real timeline, except communism would never rise and Russia's colonise would gain independence much sooner, which is why Sogdia has russian as a secondary language but have a stable and established economy like Germany.

Or more to the point, what are some good (English language) resources on the subject? How much do we really know? Did anything survive into the modern era (culturally or linguistically)? I just finished Alexander at the World's End by Tom Holt and I'm intrigued.
Like I said my last modded civ that I posted about previously failed, it was heavily based on bonuses to land trade routes and many of their attributes seem hard coded into the game.
So, until I figure that out I am working on a slightly simpler civilization, The Mycenaeans. The Mycenaeans were a civilization that inhabited the Greek mainland during the Bronze Age from about 1650 BCE to 1200 BCE. Some believe they were the inspiration for many later Greek myths, and we're the Achaeans who fought the Trojans in Homers works the iliad and odyssey.
The Mycenaeans
Leader: Agamemnon
Capital: Mycene
UA: Heroic Epics- gain culture equal to 1/3 of your next social policy when you capture an enemy city for the first time, gain a free great hero at bronze working.
Edit: should this scale with map size? Maybe a full policy on duel and tiny, half on standard and large, 1/3 on huge? Something like that?
UU: Great Hero- replaces great general and great writer. In addition to its normal bonuses units within 2 tiles of a great hero gain a 50% bonus against cities and generate great writer points when they kill a unit based on that units strength. Can be expended for a great myth, functionally identical to great works of writing, but may not be used for a burst of culture or to build a citadel.
UB: Megaron- replaces courthouse, unlocked at masonry. The Megaron still removes unhappiness from occupied cities, but can be built in any city, in addition it provides 2 culture and 25% faster great person generation to the city it is built in.
>A black storm stirs far away under watchful eye
>Of its life-giver, that great, boundless, sprawling eternal blue sky
>Drifting โcross steppe, surging in waves, stretched and strained
>The rhythmic melee of a thousand hooves โcross a thousand milesโ plain
>With lance and mace braced and poised
>To tear through now-deadened pastures and fields, scorched and ruined,
>And rend in twain folk and countries once proud and vain
>But reduced now to fodder, base and beaten, a spoke of a wheel atop which rolls
>The trundling cart on which empires are borne
>Before themselves falling beneath its ever-turning wheels,
>The victim of some other's scorn
>Which comes as does fire across a summer sunscorched steppe
>And leaves them bowed and broken, chewed and gnawed,
>Trampled โneath the feet of another new-born Scourge of God.
A storm stirs over the steep cliffs and rocky bluffs from which the great men of history have perennially rode out to bring the world under their reign. These are the Pamir-Alays, greatest of all mountains โ and such is fitting, for who else have they bred but the greatest of all men? So it is today.
The balance of power is shifted in the Turkhanate court. The old Khan lies dead, sprawled and broken on the marble floor of the great palace which has since the Deluge housed the lords of this place. His illness had plagued him for months and his death had been long expected for it, it is true โ but illness does not a dagger spawn in your back. And on his birthday, too! Yet, as the saying goes, a weak king is a weak kingdom, and so there can be little surprise at the old man's fate.
What is more worthy of surprise is the man who now sits uncontested in the Khan's mighty throne. If any had been asked who would be the first to kill the old Khan โ after all, nobody had seriously believed that his illness would be the death of him โ none would have guessed it to be Timerฤฑlgiz, that minor lord of the Mastchoh. And yet there he sits, while the old man's blood still runs warm and as all attended stand duly silent.
The dark young Khan is ambitious, of course; his quick rise from obscurity only three or four years ago and his subsequent ascension through the ranks of the minor Mastchoh nobility are proof enough of that. But his holdings are still insignificant, his forces few. There will be contention. Those who think themselves stronger than he โ and who, perhaps, have

What's the central asian/uzbek instrument playing in Sogdiana's Serdste Magnit and Tolko Dva Serdtsa?
Any similar music you can recommend?

It really does, I swear!
For context I'm a Refuse Driver (Garbage man) & today I was on food waste. After I'd tipped I was checking the wagon for any defects when I spotted a lone pea balanced on the lifts.

Dad jokes are supposed to be jokes you can tell a kid and they will understand it and find it funny.
This sub is mostly just NSFW puns now.
If it needs a NSFW tag it's not a dad joke. There should just be a NSFW puns subreddit for that.
Edit* I'm not replying any longer and turning off notifications but to all those that say "no one cares", there sure are a lot of you arguing about it. Maybe I'm wrong but you people don't need to be rude about it. If you really don't care, don't comment.
