A list of puns related to "Sodium Lauryl Sulfate"
Siehe Titel. Ich suche seit Tagen erfolglos. Jedes mal, wenn ich meine ZΓ€hne mit Zahnpasten putze die SLS beinhalten, bekomme ich Aphten. FrΓΌher oder spΓ€ter.
Sadly, I can't buy SLS where I live, but there are two other options: Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES) and Sodium Coco Sulfate (SCS). I have read that someone tried SLES and got poor results compared to SLS, but couldn't find any information on SCS.
Since i stopped using Sodium laureth/lauryl sulfate free shampoos my scalp became very inflamed and itchy, and i wonder if it is related
Long time sufferer of canker sores, sometimes dozens of tiny ones at once. Like many folks I scoured the internet for a solution, and I stumbled on some old forum where somebody was talking about how avoiding SLS helped improve their symptoms. SLS is in all sorts of dental products - toothpaste, listerine etc.
I switched to Dr. Bronners toothpaste and the results really were profound. I still get canker sores (even have some now), but they occur WAY less often than they used to, and the pain is significantly less intense.
May be more common knowledge than I'm giving it credit for, but even my doctor and dentist had never heard of this correlation before, so figured I'd share.
Cankers suck!!
Iβve noticed it in nearly every product in my home. Toothpaste, detergent, hand soap, and of course shampoo. I buy the expensive βall naturalβ laundry detergent, and still SLS resides. Is it really that terrible for you? Should I throw everything away and just vinegar for everything? Thoughts are appreciated.
I have tried quite a few brands such as Pacifica, Alba, Lush for shampoo. But all of the ones I have tried don't have SLS in them. I know that SLS isn't the best for the hair, but I only wash mine every few days. The vegan and cruelty free ones I have used don't seem to lather very well and I have to use a ton of product and lather/rinse my hair at least 4 times for it to feel clean. But on the first or second day after washing, my hair starts to get greasy. I never had this problem when using other shampoos that contain SLS in the past, so I'm thinking that a lack of it is causing the problem. But I am not going to go back to the old brands I used to use because they are not cruelty free.
Does anyone know of a good shampoo that is vegan and cruelty free that contains SLS?
I used to get canker sores pretty much daily, they'd often be very large.
I stopped using tootpastes that contained sodium lauryl sulfates and trisodium phosphates, and now I only get canker sores if I accidentally eat a trigger food, which is to say once every couple months.
Those chemicals are pretty harsh to say the least. The first chemical helps make your toothpaste foamy which doesn't actually matter when it comes to hygiene. Suds do not actually equal cleanliness. The second chemical actually cleans the fuck out of your teeth, but the problem is it also is caustic on gums and is known to cause ulcers/ bleeding.
Stay away from both if you are having frequent canker sores, and see if that helps.
FOR THE RECORD: I don't have any stock in those stupid natural toothpaste brands. They're expensive and and alot of times they're gimmicky (organic bullshit). But as much as I hate to admit it, they are the better option for me. I wish the cheap toothpastes would make simple toothpastes without those chemicals so I could save the money.
Hi everyone. I am having the darnedest time finding shampoos and conditions that help with scalp issues like seb derm that DONT have SLS related ingredients in them. I have a severe contact allergy to those ingredients, so head and shoulders, t-gel/-sal, nizoral type products are out of the question.
I have been treating with squalane oil, and while it has helped my face, my scalp is A. BIG. OLE. MESS.
Home remedies arenβt working and neither are the steroid drops given to me by my derm (betamethasone and fluocinonide). Iβm desperate. Nothing helps!
Was reading this article: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4601435/
and found on page 5 that sodium lauryl sulfate causes skin irritation in 21 percent of patients who use it and have seb derm. I'm curious as to why this would be in this zinc shampoo known as "DHS"? This seems very contradicting that it is used in all seb derm fighting products lol.
I've also found sodium lauryl sulfate in all my other anti-dandruff shampoos:
I understand that these are surfactants which help make things nice and foamy.
Do you guys have any experience with this?
If you do, what products do you use that dont contain sodium lauryl sulfate?
I was all excited about hopping on the stannous flouride train, but then I mysteriously developed a canker sore a week ago. Looking into it more, it seems that the Crest toothpaste I bought contains sodium lauryl sulfate, which can degrade the lining of the mouth and cause canker sores.
I've tried locating SLS-free toothpastes, but they all seem to use regular flouride, potassium nitrate, or neither.
I can't seem to find one that has stannous flouride, but no SLS. Any ideas?
Iβm staying home right now, and only using my own soap. And for the first time in a long time, my hands are normal again!
I have tried bringing my own soap to work, but I work in a school and I frequent many sinks. So I have my own soap at my most frequently used sinks, but I sometimes have to wash my hands at another sink.
?
I've always had a light issue with dandruff on my scalp. It's not falling out and getting everywhere or anything but it builds up. I guess I'm lucky, it doesn't show up in photos or anything but ehhh.
What I've done to help a lot: I started using shampoo and conditioner less, I try to go until my hair looks greasy before I wash it. When I'm in the shower I just rinse with water most days. I'd say maybe every 3 or 4 days on average I'd use shampoo and conditioner? This has reduced it a lot to socially acceptable levels but it's still there
I'm also wondering if it's related to my skin in general, I get random irritation sometimes, like just now a spot on my hand is red from itching it.
A reason I ask is because my scalp will itch, and this white stuff will build up under my fingernails π€’ I feel so gross admitting that, it makes me feel dirty when it happens.
So back to Head and Shoulders: It's been the shampoo I've been using, but I've heard recommendations to use stuff without Sodium Lauryl Sulfate. Well it has that, but at the same time it's meant to fight Dandruff, right? I'm just really not sure, I would love advice, sorry for the long post!
(If you think I picture would help, I can take one!)
We all know oral ulcers is a top side effect of Behcets. I would have them so bad at times I couldnβt even open my mouth, eating was completely out of the question. 3 years ago at the recommendation of a friend who struggled with ulcers (though she didnβt have Behcets) I switched my toothpaste to Thieves Oil by Young Living and have been 99% oral ulcer free since. I get the occasional pop up from time to time but nothing like I used to. If you are using a standard brand... Crest, Colgate, etc. then yes, it has SLS. I highly recommend trying out a brand that does not have this ingredient; such as Young living, Quip or Berts Bees. It was life changing for me. I would love to hear from anyone who has had a similar experience.
Hey! Just found this sub and thought posting was worth a shot. I have been suffering from allergies my entire life...have had scratch tests done (like many of you I am βallergic to the worldβ), blood testing for foods, and FINALLY I have been able to get patch testing done with a dermatologist specialist. This has been enlightening and has come to explain many issues I have been having my entire life.
Do any of you have reactions/allergies to the things Iβve listed above? Iβm curious how youβve come to be able to limit interactions with all of them, but mostly thiuram mix and potassium dichromate. They seem difficult to track down in clothing and other products I have around the house. Any advice is more than welcome!!
Recently Imade a discovery and found out what was causing 90% of my breakouts.
A while ago I started getting lots of pimples concentrated around the corners of my mouth. I was confused because even if I had acne, it was never there and never this severe. A quick search on this subreddit gave me one comment that said something along the lines of βcheck your toothpaste, it might have Sodium Lauryl Sulfateβ. So I did that, and yes, my toothpaste contained SLS. I stopped using it immediately after that and the skin around my mouth calmed down and the majority of pimples went away.
However sometime after that, in chemistry class I found out that SLS is most commonly used in shampoos as a thing that makes them go all foamy (sorry for the lack of smart vocabulary, still working on my english). So I looked at the ingredients of the shampoo I was using at the time and bam! The cursed thing is there too. Now I also have to get rid of that! As I have a very sensitive and problematic scalp I used this shampoo that was specifically designed to make it better so finding a replacement was extremely difficult for me. So I have been looking for quite a while. But as soon as I found a product that didnβt contain it, my skin cleared up immediately. Really, I get as little as 2-3 pimples a week now. And compared to the eternal breakout state I was in before that, itβs phenomenal. My skin is almost clear for over a month now and I am so so glad that I had found the root of the problem that I wanted to share it on this subreddit, in case someone is having a similar issue.
It is important to note though, that during the entirety of my search for the perfect shampoo Iβve also discovered that not only SLS, but also Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES) and Sodium Coco-sulfate made me break out as well. I am now settled on a cheap herb-based shampoo that doesnβt contain either of those and doesnβt irritate my scalp but also turns my curly hair into a pathetic puffy cloud. The price to pay, I guess. If you have any good recommendations I would really appreciate it.
So, check not only the ingredients on you skincare products but hair products and toothpaste and whatever else comes into contact with your skin as well. It helped me to mostly get rid of what I thought was hormonal acne and it might help you too.
I tried every lip balm I could get my hands on (including Vaseline, Aquaphor, Eucerin, Carmex, lanolin, you name it), but nothing helped my severely chapped lips. Finally I realized that my intense whitening toothpaste kind of felt tingly on my lips, and swapped to a non-whitening/sulfate free brand. It's been a month now and my flaky lips are totally healed.
Hi,
I have plantar warts on my feet that I got rid of last summer and then they came back. :(
So, like many here, I've been researching various treatments.
During my search I just came across this interesting article.
It says: "A common surfactant and detergent found in many shampoos and toothpastes is the first topical microbicidal agent shown to kill animal and human papillomavirus, according to a Penn State researcher. Sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) was found in cell culture and animal testing to inactivate sexually transmitted viruses including human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV-2) and human papillomaviruses (HPVs). These viruses cause AIDS, genital herpes and genital warts, respectively."
Upon further research, it looks like Sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) is also known as sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS).
SLS is found in many toothpastes and shampoos. I wonder why they haven't done further research on this finding (or maybe they have?)
I haven't found anything else about it on the web.
Anyone ever try putting toothpaste with SLS on their warts? Did it work?
***EDIT: Looks like someone did try it here and it worked! The toothpaste they used is Pepsodent which has Sodium Lauryl Sulfate in it.
Maybe I'll try toothpaste. (Though I would not do the clipping part, that looks terrible and dangerous lol).
I read online about how some people are allergic to SLS - Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, and how their heads would itch, and breakout, and it would also affect the rest of their bodies from the shampoos that they would use, and that described what I was experiencing.
I went out and bought a shampoo that doesn't have SLS, and with my first shampoo I no longer itched! I have had this for my entire life, and I always itched all over my body, and it's all because of SLS! I've been also using it as a body wash now, and my skin no longer itches.
I even went and saw a specialist about this years ago, and she couldn't figure it out other than to say that I was allergic to cats, alder trees, and black mold.
I've been plagued with this my entire life, and now that I know I'm hoping that someone might benefit from knowing about it.
Hi guys. Iβm just wondering if anyone has had an allergic reaction of some sort to SLS? I randomly developed this itchy rash on my leg from using a body wash that contained it. (I think itβs from it) they are just skin colored bumps that itch like crazy. Almost look like mosquito bites. Iβm going crazy. Weird thing is though that I have very few on the rest of my body.
Ran into a post a few weeks ago saying that sodium lauryl sulfate in my toothpaste could be causing my fairy common canker sore problem.
I wasn't super confident in this idea butttt I went out and bought some sensodyne that was missing the ingredient. I've had two sores since then (have one right now), which is more frequent than usual. Just wanted to throw my experience in. I'll probably still finish the tube of sensodyne maybe it'll have better results in the long run.
I thought feedback may be helpful. I hope others had better results. Canker sores are obnoxious! A hindrance on my ability to eat sweet/spicy garbage!
Tl;dr bought sensodyne still getting sores.
Edit: Seems canker sores are a more common problem than I previously thought. Also seems that there are many with much more sever canker sore problem than myself. I feel a bit weeny for bitching about it now.
Got a bottle of lysine as /u/merrej7 suggested. Other parts of the internets also claim great results from lysine, so we will see.

Hi everyone, i do more materials science than chemistry and i wanted to do an experiment with hydrogen lauryl sulfate. I couldn't find any place to purchase it so could i make it from sodium lauryl sulfate?
any help would be greatly appreciated.
