A list of puns related to "Shear Strain"
Greetings.
I am en engineering student and while learning about shear strain I felt like I needed to know why the first plain of the object ,depicted below ,moves further away from side AB,compared to the plains below it (which I tried to draw as well as I could). I understand that the plains tend to slide away from each other but it seems to me like the tension on top of the object has a "better outcome" in terms of moving the first plain from its neutral position.
Thank you for your replies in advance

..Is what a colleague told me. Has anyone come across this in their modelling work? I was told strain has six components, which correspond to three tension and three shear strain. This does not make sense to me, do you guys know what they might have been referring to?
I tried browsing online for some answers but couldn't find much at the surface level.
An individual explained that this was due to a wrong convention that had been in use in the early 20th century but why exactly a factor of 2? I can't seem to connect the concept of tensors to mechanics here.
Thanks in advance!
I'm looking to calculate shear rates in a microfluidic channel for power law fluids. This https://darwin-microfluidics.com/blogs/tools/microfluidic-flowrate-and-shear-stress-calculator is helpful for newtonian liquids, but not so much when the stress is a function of the strain rate. Anyone know of a good way to calculate this?
I had a professor ask my class this once, and no one was able to give the correct answer he was looking for. He also never told us the answer, so now I am curious.
Anyone have a good explanation for shear strain? What is it? Physically?
Just been debating with classmates- exactly how do you determine the direction from the circle?
the equations for finding shear strain is theta initial - theta final (in radians) if theta initial is pi/2 and theta final is 91.8pi/180, then the equation is: pi/2 - 91.8pi/180 = -0.03142. How do I convert this to micro strain? I believe I just multiply the answer by 10^6. I am reviewing for a test and my professor posted a solution that is 3142 micro strain, and I want to make sure I am getting the correct answer. Thanks
And what does those two have to do with velocity? Thanks in advance :)

Chapter 37
βWell, looks like it was a good call to not rely on the idea that they havenβt figured that trick out yet,β Shida said, peering around the cover of some pillars holding up the suspended walkways to get a good look at the team of soldiers positioned in front of the conspicuously inconspicuous doorway, leading into the hidden train system of the station that was reserved for the elite.
Moving through its maintenance tunnel like James and Congloarch had done earlier was apparently out of the question now. It wasnβt too surprising. Emerging from a gate this enormous without being noticed wouldβve been an exercise in impossibility.
Luckily, they had realized this soon enough and avoided taking that route. Instead, they had decided that they might as well travel completely out in the open, as people were apparently on their trail anyway. So, they simply pretended like everything was normal and took the usual train towards their destination. And with security being busy checking more unconventional methods of travel, as well as dealing with whatever James was doing and wrangling the masses, they were spread a bit too thin to also check every train or even every station.
Instead, they had taken up positions at more tactical areas around the station. And while this did allow them to cover a bigger area with less personnel, it also made it a whole lot easier to sneak past them, given the opportunity. And on a station as busy as the G.C.S., opportunities were plentiful.
Speaking of which: As a gaggle of busily talking day jobbers walked past Shidaβs stationed, and now probably former, colleagues, taking their line of sight, she quickly waved for everyone to follow her and, together with her group, hurried past the vigilant eyes of the guards.
It was a good thing that they managed to take the train, too, since it meant they would arrive at the nearest shuttle dock sooner and were therefore less likely to miss the window James would create for them. Or at least try to.
After they had successfully slipped past and had walked for some more time, Shida couldnβt quite silently deal with intrusive thoughts like that one anymore.
βHurry up,β she hastily said,

This is my definitive tuning and upgrade guide for the Traxxas 1/16 E-Revo β which applies to both brushed and brushless VXL versions.
A QUICK DISCLAIMER: I don't mean to scare any prospective owners away from owning one of these little buggers. They're great trucks that perform very well out of the box. Most of these upgrades make the vehicle objectively "better" but realistically speaking, you don't need any of them. This guide is intended for people who enjoy upgrading their vehicles as much as I do β keep in mind that most of what is suggested below is purely subjective and my personal preference, formed after extensive research and experimentation. I highly recommend you experiment on your own - this guide is simply meant to nudge you in the right direction. There is no "perfect setup", it's all about what YOU want and what YOU like.
If you want to extract everything this platform has to offer, read on! If you just want to have fun... you might as well skip this.
Thanks to u/PiggyWigglyDeluxe for pointing out my incorrect wording.
The Revo platform is often misunderstood β itβs what I like to call a terrain basher, designed to be driven quickly on uneven ground, and NOT driven roughly on uneven terrain. It was NOT designed with jumping in mind β thatβs not to say you shouldnβt jump it, but be prepared, if you do, it WILL break. Traxxas calls it a monster truck but really, itβs a hybrid between a short course truck (low CG and slim chassis, plush suspension) and a monster truck (raised ride height, big wheels and tires, insane suspension travel). Itβs a very versatile platform which can be driven in pretty much any type of terrain. The "tune" I propose below is a versatile setup mainly intended for general purpose "bashing" on pavement, low traction surfaces and with minor jumping (sub 5 meters) in mind. People have different driving styles and needs so this setup will not suit everyone.
A common misconception Iβd initially like to address concerns the use of aluminum parts. Avoid them as much as you possiblyβ¦ aluminum arms may look cool, but theyβre heavy, expensive and will deform irreversibly in the case of a strong impact β you will NOT be able t

To the best of my knowledge, the only fabrics warm enough to survive in cold weather are animal-based (wool, down, leather) or plastic-based (polyester, nylon, fleece, etc).
Raising sheep can be good for the environment:
Of course, industrial agriculture is bad for the environment. Feeding sheep unnatural diets such as excessive grain, poor waste management, and poor grazing plans all cause environmental strain. To be completely clear, I am not defending or promoting industrial agriculture. Industrial agriculture is not the only way to raise animals.
For example, I have connections to multiple farms that combine sheep with apple orchards. The sheep graze underneath the apple trees, both "mowing the lawn" and upcycling fallen fruit that cannot be sold or consumed by humans. The space under the apple trees would exist regardless of if there were sheep on it. You cannot use that space to grow a lot of additional crops, because you need to be able to walk on it/move carts to harvest apples/etc. The sheep poop provides fertilizer that enhances the soil and thus the health/productivity of the apple trees. It is an environmentally efficient use of land to have both systems working together.
Other environmentally sound sheep farms I have worked at/have friends who have worked at include systems where a solar field is used to graze sheep (sheep "mow the lawn" where it is difficult to reach due to the panels, panels in turn provide shade/shelter for sheep) and sheep being raised on a hillside which is so rocky that it cannot be used to produce significant amounts of vegetable crops. There were some perennials like berries and nut/fruit trees planted in that pasture as well.
The harvesting of wool and hides through shearing and slaughter can be done so that it causes minimal pain and stress:
Shearing sheep can be quick and cause minimal pain. Please don't link some video or PETA article that shows it being done poorly, like I said, I am not defending or promoting industrial agriculture. In "alternative"/non industrial settings, animals are secured firmly to minimize/avoid getting nicked by the clippers, but excessive force is not used. Trained shearers know how to handle and secure animals in ways that are safe and take their biological structure into account. As they are prey animals, once they are put into posit

When I was eight years old, I wrote a Christmas letter. I still believed in Santa, but I didnβt necessarily trust him. You see, Iβd written him a letter every year since I was five, each one more elaborate and legible as I pleaded with him to give me what I wanted. I always asked for the same thing. A Gunslinger 32 pellet rifle just like the one my brother Robbie had. Had and would never let me use, claiming it was because our parents said I was too young, but I knew better. I could see in his face that he enjoyed lording it over me, taking me with him when he played with it but never letting me touch it, even for a second.
So for years I begged Santa, thinking he was my only avenue toward getting what I wanted since my brother wouldnβt share and my parents refused to budge on their well-worn rule that I couldnβt get one until I was ten. By the time I was eight, Iβd decided that Santa was either on my parentsβ side or as some of my friends claimed, he didnβt even exist. That slow erosion of belief might have been the end of the whole thing if not for a t.v. show I saw a couple of weeks before Christmas. In it, Santa was portrayed as a lazy buffoon who sat around all year eating and drinking and getting fat, only to be shoved into his sleigh on Christmas Eve to sullenly make the nightβs deliveries with his unique time-defying magic. In the show, it was Santaβs elves that actually did all the work and made all the real decisions.
By the time the show was over, I was already planning on what I would say in my next letter. And by the next morning, I had it ready to be mailed to the North Pole, making my mother promise sheβd carry me to the post office that same afternoon. If she noticed that this letter was addressed to the elves instead of Santa, she gave me no sign.
Iβm forty-two now, and I donβt remember every detail of that last letter, but the general gist was that if the elves would just bring me a new Gunslinger 32 pellet rifle, I would give them anything they wanted in return. That sounds so stupid now, not just because of what happened, but just generally. Who makes that kind of promise for something so small? But I was an eight year old boy writing a letter to Christmas elves, pleading for a pellet gun that Iβd lose interest in after a few weeks or months. Rationality had nothing to do with it.
Besides, even then a big part of me thought it was all crap, right? It was something to do, something to occupy myself during the endles

Bob and Robert Greer were having a very bad day. Not only had their planet been invaded, but their favorite ski hill had become a war zone. To top it all off the purple bitches had just blown up Roberts 1971 Fargo Sweptline.
"They have no respect for the classics!" Bob shouted over the gun fire.
Robert didn't hear his brother; he watched the wreckage of his prized truck burn. All he could think about was the time he and his father put into restoring that truck. His father had died in the care home three days ago. Between the power outages and the staff fleeing at some point, the old man's ventilator stopped working. The brothers found him cold in his bed when they made to bug out of Calgary.
Robert couldn't take it any more. Giving up on his old Soviet rifle doing anything to the Shil'vati body armor, he fixed the under folding bayonet and charged.

On the other side of the mountain valley, Philip was having a much worse day: for some reason everyone was under the impression he was the Exo Expert. Not to say he was an expert on Exoβs, noooo. Everyone was under the impression Philip was the man to call to *deal* with all Exo related problems. Including the one currently chasing him on his Quad.
He brought the radio up to his mouth. "I'm almost there!" he spoke into the device, before quickly returning his hand to the controls to narrowly avoid a tree. The laser cannon hit said tree and caused any water in or on the tree to instantly vaporize; it erupted into splinters, then fell towards the Exo denting its shiny, purple shell.
Philip continued to lead the Mech down the winding trails. He had been leading this Exo through the trails that had the densest woods so that his only slightly faster Quad could put a few trees in the way whenever the Pilot decided to take a shot.
Philip was quietly repeating his new mantra in his head. It's just like rescue, just like hunting; just like rescue, just like hunting. Philip had figured out while hunting with his uncle that it was easiest to not think about the deer as living, it was just a thing. It carried over surprisingly well to avalanche rescue. If you rushed and hurried in because people were buried under there, you missed things, or worse you got yourself into danger, so now the rescue team had to save you too. It was best to make it less personal; they weren't people, they were things; it was your job to find them, and it took as long as it tookβ¦. It made

It really does, I swear!
Samuel encountered trouble before he was even close to the ground. Several points of trouble, in fact. First, the eagle-eyes watchman who just happened to be glancing up at the night sky, and caught the barest flash of light from Samuelβs spell as he began to slow down his ascent. Samuel dropped past him too fast for recognition, but he was still spotted. Second, there was the mage who spotted him when he landed just outside the central keepβs door, and had the correct first instinct, which was to shout in alarm.
Samuel darted forward before he could even regain his balance, and struck the mage down with one quick swipe of his sword. The mage only had enough time to speak the first few words of an incantation, and a single spark of electricity escaped his hands before he hit the cobbles of the courtyard. Then Samuel fired off two silent, nearly invisible burst of air that knocked the sentry down, silencing him just long enough for Samuel to leap up to the tower and cut him down as well. Then he snatched the manβs body, as well as the mage, and darted into cover behind a pile of crates, his ears strained to catch any sound of further discovery.
That was when he noticed the third bit of trouble. A man, crossing the courtyard with a very tired air about him, just happened to turn in time to see Samuel dart behind the crates. He blinked in mild surprise, then rubbed his eyes. He swore heβd just seen something move in the shadows. He took a hesitant step forward, and then another. He peered into the shadows, trying to spot the movement again. A mere dozen feet away, under the protection of his very hasty invisibility spell, Samuel crouched, ready to pounce one more. But the man seemed to conclude that it had been his imagination after a long day and, with a shrug, turned and continued his patrol.
Samuel let out a quiet sigh of relief. His infiltration was not off to a good start. Luckily heβd managed to kill the two who had spotted them before they raised the alarm, but their absence would be noticed, sooner or later. Now there was an extra burden on his shoulders, the need to finish his mission quickly. He nudged the two fallen enemies further out of sight, and took off his dark blue outer robe. Th
