> Sarcopenia has defined as a clinical syndrome associated with age-related loss such as skeletal muscle mass, strength, function, and physical performance. It is commonly seen in elderly patients with chronic diseases. Changes in lean mass are common critical determinants in the pathophysiology and progression of cardiovascular diseases (CVDs). Sarcopenia may be one of the most important causes of poor physical function and decreased cardiopulmonary function in elderly patients with CVDs. Sarcopenia may induce CVDs through common pathogenic pathways such as malnutrition, physical inactivity, insulin resistance, inflammation; these mechanisms interact.
Hey guys, a GP at my work was arguing with me the other day in regards to the vegan diet.
Basically he said that he read studies and younger people can do well on a vegan diet, but as we age and hit our mid 40s vegans have much larger levels of sarcopenia (loss of skeletal muscle mass).
He also said that some studies showed that protein from plant sources (I.e soy) absolutely pale in comparison to meat and that it would be inadequate.
Can anyone point me in the direction of some facts/studies to argue against this?
Thanks!
[M23] i an constantly extremely stressed out and suffer from severe insomnia daily. Can this prolonged stress actually decrease your muscle tissue?
Im asking because ive noticed that my my lower right pec muscle tissue feels depleted bit more showing more bone and other areas of both pecs are filled with tissue which is abnormal to me. Otherwise i have no predisposed genetic conditions, just extremely stressed all the time. I just dont want to permanently lose muscle tissue, otherwise if its gone even exercise may not help it grow back if therrs no tissue in that area if that makes sense. Anyone know if this is possible?
