Hey there fellow homesteaders. Wife and I decided to grab a rotary tiller for the tractor. I may try to pick up some odd jobs tilling for people around the community, too.
My tractor wheels are around 5 1/2 feet outside to outside, so I need to pull a 6 foot tiller to not leave tracks. I'm not sure I'd be able to adjust a 5' far enough to get behind either wheel and till only one direction.
I'm questing if my tractor has enough power to pull a 6'. I have an IH 424 and the PTO HP is ~35HP. http://www.tractordata.com/farm-tractors/000/3/3/330-international-harvester-424.html
Does anyone have any experience with a rotary tiller behind a tractor this size? It's a 4 speed + lo/hi ranges (so effectively 8 speed) so I'd think as long as the soil isn't dry to the bone and hard as a rock I should be able to just go a little slower if it struggles.
