Welcome to the PvE Roadbuilders' Association. Here's an introduction and some plans!

I'm assuming you're here after reading the post on /r/mcpublic. Thanks for your interest and welcome!

As you know, the goal of this organization will be to build roads to connect the various cities and points of interest on the server. Roads facilitate development and exploration and are very accessible, even to new players.

As stated in the /r/mcpublic post, our initial goal will be to connect Pico to spawn. From there anything is possible. I'm hoping in this thread we can get some brainstorming going on road design, materials, rest stop design, and other standards.

I'll run through some basic points right now:

-Where will we be based? Somewhere on the road between spawn and Pico. The headquarters will have common resources for members as well as space for private storage. It will also contain mining, tree farm, food farm, ect.

-What will the management structure be like? Initially it will be top-down as we get our bearings. We'll do one road project at a time, moving on only after completion of the current project. Once things are established and our standards are agreed upon, things will become more decentralized. People will be able to set up their own routes and projects with the RBA providing guidance, labor, and materials where needed.

-What will the roads themselves be like? They need to look good but not be too expensive. They won't be as elaborate as many of the super high quality roads found in cities. We need to be able to build fast and cheap. The design I'm thinking of uses wood slabs and stairs (stair slab slab stair) but if anyone has other ideas, please share. Lighting will be provided by simple torches on the ground near the road.

The roads should follow the terrain as much as possible. We don't want to just slice through everything with perfectly straight lines, that's boring and ugly. Bridges should have supports and not just be floating.

-What about protections? The roads will not be protected. We want people to be able to modify them slightly when needed and to be able to hook up 3rd party roads, paths, ect.

-What will the rest stops be like? I want the roads to have small shelters scattered along their length, especially in more remote areas. They should be small one story buildings that provide basic services (bed, enderchest, crafting, melon farm) and be safe from mobs.

I think this will be a fun and engaging project, especially for people like me that both love infrastructure b

Help shape the growth and development of Rev 14 by joining the Roadbuilders' Association today!

The PvE Roadbuilders' Association has been helping to coordinate and build many of the roads on P since Rev 11. Over the past three revs we have helped to spur the reemergence of road travel as an important and useful component of the server's transportation infrastructure.

Roads are awesome. Why, you ask? Roads are easily accessible for both new and old players alike. They are easily visible from the carto and live map and as a result help make exploration easier. Instead of amorphous blobs of sprawl and development, roads help to promote more aesthetically pleasing and organized construction, even in areas outside of cities. A road shooting off into the wilderness will help to open up that chunk of pure untouched land to PvE's innumerable builders and explorers.

The RBA is a fairly passive organization- we mostly exist in order to help pool resources and coordinate various construction efforts. The only top-down mandated project we have is to help establish the cardinal roads out of spawn before things get hemmed in by builds. As a result, being a member of the RBA is entirely compatible with active citizenship in the various cities and large projects found around the map.

Come on over to /r/pveroads to help get the planning started for the start of Rev 14. Mayors and members of cities, I would love to see you guys join up so that we can better plan and coordinate the construction of the various roads between the settlements.

Let's pave over some mother nature!

PvE Roadbuilders’ Association - Join us in connecting the world in Rev 11!

I have some fun and exciting plans for Rev 11 on PvE. After almost two years of working on Brom and its various franchises I’ve decided it’s time to branch out and try something new. I’m going to follow my dream of building roads to connect the towns and cities of the server and I hope you’ll join me!

The RBA will be supportive, friendly, and open to anyone who wants to help out. We’ll focus on providing material support as well as organizational guidance for as many road projects as possible.

Why roads?

When I first joined the server as a newbie many moons ago I got my start by walking the player made roads out of spawn. I found a nice spot half way down the East Road and built a house. Not long after I started making friends in the neighborhood and haven’t looked back since.

I feel that roads are far more accessible to newbies than the rail system (though I do agree that the rails are extremely important) or nether. Even a poor, naked, new guy can find and navigate a road. The added benefits of this spill out to the whole server as roads help to direct and organize development in such a way that strongly discourages derp and ugly sprawl. Finally, roads encourage exploration and make it easier to meet new people.

What’s the plan?

Our initial priority will be to connect cities and towns to spawn and to each other. Ideally we would like to partner with cities on individual projects and arrange some sort of resource sharing. However, in the event that no one’s requesting connections we’ll just do our own thing.

The road designs will be simple, affordable, and quick to build. They will be well lit with signs pointing out nearby destinations and will be dotted with public rest stops containing a bed, crafting, food, and other amenities.

Our first project will be connecting the city of Pico (or, I suppose, its base camp) to spawn as soon as possible after map launch.

Once the map launches we’ll head out with the Pico folks as they hunt for a spot. Once they’re established we’ll start blazing a trail back to spawn. The eventual RBA headquarters will be somewhere on the road between Pico and spawn. Once the Pico road is up and running we’ll start on projects to other cities that may be interested.

Updates and additional discussion will be found at /r/pveroads

So, join me, fellow infrastructure nerds! Together we will slice through the unforgiving wilderness in order to provide safe passage for civiliza

Join the PvE Roadbuilders' Association as we connect the world in Rev 12!

Grab your hardhat and get to work at /r/pveroads !

It's a brave new world out there, fellow explorers! Harsh unforgiving wilderness awaits the intrepid settlers of PvE. But fear not! An army of skilled civil engineers is ready and waiting to pave over the pristine face of mother nature with an endless stream of smoothstone slabs. Will you join us?

  • Why Roads?

Roads are an important and all too often overlooked aspect of development and infrastructure on PvE. They help to direct construction and exploration in an organized, logical manner. While cities invest heavily in their own local road systems there is little incentive for them to spend precious resources on highways reaching far into the wilderness. This is where the Roadbuilders' Association comes into play. We build roads reaching out from spawn into the vast reaches of untouched wilds. We connect cities, remote houses, isolated compounds, and everything else in between. We provide an obvious and easily accessible path for people to launch their exploration and from which development and economic growth can easily sprout.

This, by the way, is not to discount the important of the rail system (shout out to /r/mcpverails). Roads and rail are both important components of a comprehensive and healthy server wide transportation infrastructure.

  • Our Legacy

You may have noticed our extensive work in Rev 11. RBA roads extended in all directions from spawn and provided launching off points for countless projects and cities. Our roads generally can be distinguished by the trademark oak stair and smoothstone slab construction. We pepper our roads with rest stops which often have our flag flying proudly above.

  • Our Organization

The RBA has a loose management structure that provides resources to members and strives to facilitate the completion of members' projects. We generally do not dictate projects but rather ask members what they would like to do then provide resources, labor, and planning help.

At the start of the rev we have two main goals: 1) to set up a headquarters and basecamp for the use of our members near spawn and 2) to extend roads in the four cardinal directions at least a couple hundred meters from spawn so that the road network can get going without getting boxed in. From there anything is possible!

So, why not join us? You can help the server grow and develop from an untamed wilderness into a beautiful landscape of towns and houses. We're fun, laid back, and open to

Help build the road network that connects the map! Join the Roadbuilders' Association today!

The PvE Roadbuilders' Association was founded in Rev 11 to ensure that a viable road transit system was built to facilitate settlement, exploration, and economic growth. Roads are great because they make it real easy to see the sights and find new places to build. They're accessible and highly visible to new players and long time residents alike.

RBA activity is always highest at the start of the rev as we establish the basic cardinal roads that much of the system will later rely on. Right now we have a shortage of engineers and need some help getting things started.

Our immediate goal is to mark out rights of way leading in the cardinal directions out of spawn so that the road doesn't get blocked from spawn. We'll then go back and fill in the road. It's important that the roads get as close to spawn as possible so that they have high visibility. Therefore we need to work fast as land around spawn gets used up quickly.

If you want to help check out our sub at /r/pveroads. You can also join the clanchat in game, /clanchat join rba.

For now anyone in game feel free to start laying out wood slabs going N S E W from spawn. Respect existing builds by going around them and giving space. Leave signs every now and then explaining that the slabs are for the RBA North Road, or whatever the case may be.

We'll also be establishing a base camp near spawn so that people can get resources and food. But we need to get these basic roads set up first.

Let's go pave over some mother nature! See you in game!
