A list of puns related to "Renunciation"
EDIT: So until now, NO ONE has quoted verses from the Sikhs Holy Book, nor given logical answers. Other than "this is like that because its like that".
Similarly to Hinduism, many people unfortunately follow religion blindly without actually understanding it. Nonetheless, I'm still open to discuss with solid grounded arguments and of course with the Sikhs holy book in hand.

I fancy very much Buddhism where renunciation and isolation is often encouraged since having family, wordly affairs can become a distraction in order to attain high spiritual attainments.
Also, correct me if I am wrong but Sikhisms goal is to attain liberation (mukti or nirvana for Buddhists) and its obstacles can be lust, greed, anger, attachment and pride.
So how is it possible to get rid of these obstacles while being precisely engaged in situations where lust and attachment appear? Whats the logic behind this?
Family, wife, kids...etc promote lust and attachment inevitably.
It's like trying to avoid consuming cocaine while being at a nightclub full of tempting cocaine lines.
OTOH, the Guru Granth Sahib mentions celibacy as something praiseworthy:
>Celibacy, chastity, self-discipline and the practice of truthfulness are obtained from the Perfect Guru, by meditating on the Naam, the Name of the Lord.
So how come household and having kids its still encouraged?
Thanks,
Hi,
Has anyone had experience with this and what exactly does the Spanish consulate require to show renunciation of citizenship?
I'm applying for Spanish citizenship by 'option' as one of my parents (father) is Spanish. I was born in the UK - my mother is British, and I have British citizenship. My parents didn't register my birth so I don't have the Libro de familia. Everything I'm reading says that to obtain the Spanish citizenship i must renounce British but it seems really odd that I should do this - is it just because they didn't register my birth with the Spanish consulate?
I have been delving into Vedanta more recently and interesting in deepening my study of it.
Something that contradicts my previous understanding of Karma is that when one becomes a monastic, they give up their previous life including family/ parents. I was under the impression that family is given karma and that it should be honoured.
Please can someone kindly educate me? Do I need to rethink the way I see karma?
Many thanks
Jake
Any work linking this to the vegan-adjacent discussions would be of additional interest.
I recently watched a video from a spiritual practitioner where they said they craved intimacy and therefore were going to pursue a romantic relationship. They further suggested that the reason some awakened beings commit misconduct around power, sex and money is because those drives were suppressed by their ascetic lifestyle.
Since watching this video, there has been some doubt and worry with regards to my practice. There are certainly tendencies within me that want to be played out. However, the reason I choose not to act upon them is because of the potentially destructive consequences. Furthermore, I can't predict whether or not they would actually be resolved through action. Instead, I notice these tendancies appear as thought and feeling and, depending on how mindful I am, they either create suffering or pass away without consequence.
So my question is, what is healthy suppression, and how can I know that I'm not creating more unnecessary resistance to experience by misjudging things as unwholesome?
Lately I've been practicing right speech and the edit: fifth precept, and I'm finding them very restricting!
This quote was brought up in a BBC podcast about Dandyism and it has travelled with me for about a month as it relates to SDAism, particularly the second half.
While I was an Adventist my renunciation of the world certainly led to the world rejecting me.
And now that I’m no longer a part of Adventism (or any similar puritanical group), I find that serious Adventists, especially when they activate the renunciation = holiness card, are repugnant.

There’s a bit about costly signals in this psychology podcast, which I think is foundational to the SDA (and broader religious) obsession with virtue via renunciation:
“… if you look at the costly rituals that happen in religion, those are indications to other people in your group that you are a true believer. You are showing in a costly way indications that you're a believer. It is a hard to fake signal. If you weren't a true believer, you wouldn't go through all that effort.
VEDANTAM: Effort like following the vows of chastity, poverty and obedience in Catholicism...” or majoring in minors in Adventism.
The costly signal communicates in-group authenticity, helps to ward off freeloaders, (and unwanted outsiders) etc.
It came to be known as the Renunciation. Everybody you meet will always tell you “I remember exactly what I was doing when I heard…”.
Most of them are lying. The thing is, when we first heard the communication over the galaxy-wide emergency services channel, none of us even understood what it meant.
Humans were a relatively new arrival to the Galactic scene, having only recently broken the light-speed barrier and met the requirements for First Contact. They’d gotten a reputation as a scrappy little race, and as good emergency engineers, though shipyards dreaded to see what their “repair jobs” looked like on the inside.
They’d also, sadly, gotten the attention of the Fyrexi, one of the nastier races out there, and their near neighbours, in galactic terms. We all knew they were crossing the line on a few of the Council decrees, but their military was big enough and nasty enough that nobody wanted to be the ones to investigate.
So, as it happens, I do remember what I was doing at the time, because I was on comms watch and our human engineer happened to be at the next station over.
I didn’t have a clue what the message meant, so… I asked. “Mitch, what does this mean? ‘To all units, Checklist-G, I repeat, Checklist-Golf, is now in effect. Remove all gloves before engaging.’
I didn’t even know humans could change colour like that. He went white. “Jesus Christ, Harl… what did the Fyrexi do to deserve that?”
This was clearly something very wrong. I checked for any updates on recent Fyrexi hostility. No…
“They… they glassed one of your colony worlds. I’m so sorry, Mitch…”
“No, that doesn’t make sense! They wouldn’t initiate Checklist-G for that…”
“It was a world called… Kennel? Am I pronouncing that right?”
I never want to see again a face that looks like Mitch’s did then…
“Oh. Yeah, that’d do it.”
I am currently serving NS and received a letter to take my Oath of Allegiance since I am Citizen by Registration. One of the required documents is:
However I do not have this right now and in order to attain it, I either have to fly to China (which I can't since I am serving NS), or apply it at the China Embassy in SG (they said that it could take months or years due to COVID, and by then it would've been past the deadline).
Has anyone been in the same boat before? How do I solve this issue?
Edit #1 (2 Dec 21) - Went to the ICA today, and they said that when you apply for the Renunciation Certificate, the China Embassy will give you a receipt which proves that you have already applied for the Cert and is just waiting to collect it. That receipt itself is enough for you to complete the Oath of Allegiance procedure, along with the other required documents.
Thank you all for the advice and help.
Or is a Deed of Renunciation irrevocable and binding? Who would administer the estate if both are now out of the picture?
So, in Kendall's mania, the stuff that really stood out to me was how his entire guilt re the situation of the boy seemed to flip on over it's head, and he seems to even be able to crack a joke about it. I found this quite jarring and was trying to think through how they're landing this from a character development POV.
One of the things I thought it could be is actually tied to what Jeremy said in an interview for last seasons finale - he mentioned that Kendall decided to flip when he saw that his dad truly was complicit (morally and legally) when he calls Dodd an NRPI. At that point in time, I thought ah, he got a moral justification to take Logan down (as was implied in the interview as well). But perhaps the more nuanced take is that a large part of Kendall's guilt was also steeped in him thinking that his dad thought he massively fucked up - - but the moment he realised that Logan actually didn't give a shit, it released him from his Guilt too.
So in effect, they completely switched Kendall's polarity by not making it about his ethical code, but, "what dad thinks", except the release from guilt actually allows him to crush his dad (seemingly) and also preserve his facade of moral highground. Phooooey. What do you'll think?
Samadhi has left his family and home like the renunciates who leave family and home. Instead of holding onto the Self, the renunciates think about the senses internally and show samadhi outwardly. They establish organizations and hermitages and even fight through lawsuits over properties. These people are not real Sadhus. One does not need to renounce the family, parents and sons to be a Sadhu. He who masters the senses, is a Sadhu or renunciate.

It's been three months. I sent an email to immigration dgip and haven't received any response so far. Neither heard anything from the embassy
NOTE: Link to the checklist that VFS provides on the website and the one I have used: https://www.vfsglobal.com/one-pager/india/united-states-of-america/renunciation-of-indian-citizenship/pdf/naturalized-on-or-after-1st-june-2010.pdf
EDIT: If the URLs below are not working, you can open the checklist above and click on the hyperlinks
Step 1: File an application with the Government of India and obtain your ARN number (Application Reference Number) using this link below
https://embassy.passportindia.gov.in
Step 2: Head to your USPS office if you don't have tracking labels. I did not have them so I went up there to grab tracking labels, Priority Mail envelopes and stamps. The tracking labels will come in handy as you complete step 5. I know it seems odd that you need them so early but that is because the VFS process that starts in Step 3 requires it in steps later on in the application
Step 3: Using this link below, click on the Renunciation option
Step 4: Once your profile has been created and you have created your application, proceed to select if you want VFS to create the mail packages or if you would like to do it yourself. As of this post (Oct 16, 2021), VFS is charging $228 + taxes for two packages (one to them and one from them)
Note: I did it myself and it cost $35.52 for 4 packages (I have two people in my family who I am doing this for)
Step 5: Proceed with the application. If you choose to package it and send it yourself, they will ask for the tracking numbers. As a side note, when I was at the USPS office, I asked for the tracking labels that can be stuck on the Priority Mail envelope and there were free of cost
Keep continuing with the application. The website might ask for more / missing information
Once all that is done, submit your application and pay the fee. As of this post, the fee was $200.69
Step 6: Chec
... keep reading on reddit ➡Anarchy is not chaos. It is, on the contrary, humanity at its best: each and every one responsible, a multitude of free and awakened consciences. Communities capable of solving their own problems. And this activity in the heart: the renunciation of dominating anything and anyone. Humanity is not yet capable of this, but the seed is everywhere. There is no other way out. .
L'anarchie n'est pas le chaos. C'est au contraire l'humanité élevée à son meilleur : chacune et chacun devenus responsables, une multitude de consciences libres et éveillées.
