A list of puns related to "Radiant Power"
I was reading through https://reddit.com/r/Cosmere/comments/s0q4ji/_/hs3cezb/?context=1 and noticed that the thing that would allow Miles to heal his gold allomancy being taken from his soul(assuming enough investiture, not a problem for radiants) is his identity.
Soul smiths function primarily on messing with identity, and so this could be a less destructive method of essentially the same infinite power cheat. A good enough soul smiths stamps you with a story along the lines of your parents being worldhoppers frozen in time that could theoretically have a twinborn child, you heal the power into yourself, done. The soul smithing itself would be its own challenge of course, but might be easier than keeping Miles alive as you repeatedly gouge out his soul.
Like obtaining a yellow gun that's going unavailable.
Any other complete beginner advice welcome (what gear to use and what to dust, what items to upgrade, what to spend 10/20/30 dollars on, etc.)
As I said, full series spoilers - if you haven't read up to Rhythm of War, turn away now.
During my recent re-read/listen of Oathbringer, a particular quote caught my attention that I haven't really noticed discussed on this forum or others. It's in Chapter 8 of Oathbringer, "A Powerful Lie," page 95, as Shallan is musing about how people are reacting to her now that she's a Radiant.
> The soldiers stared at her as if they expected her to grow Shardplate, shoot gouts of flame from her eyes, and fly off to tear down a mountain or two. Probably should try to act more composed, Shallan thought to herself. More ... knightly?
Although I think Shallan was mostly being facetious, I can't help but feel like this is Sanderson foreshadowing in plain sight the destructive powers that Radiants will end up having / have used in the past that led to destruction (as we know from Rhythm of War, as well as the end of Oathbringer when we learn that humans were the original voidbringers).
Anyway, some people have theorized that Lightweavers will develop the ability to shoot lasers, as alluded to in a WoB here: > Brandon Sanderson (paraphrased) > [Discussion of Lightweavers manipulating other forms of electromagnetic radiation] > But the ultimate form (That Brandon said would be too much to be practical both in needed stormlight and application) would be the control of Gamma Radiation. If this could be harnessed, Lightweavers could literally become mini nukes, or death guns. The biggest downside to making Gamma radiation would be the damage the lightweaver would most likely suffer. So **gamma radiation is impractical but its a fun thought experiment. ** > The best part of this whole speculation was how excited Brandon was about my train of thought. I don't know if anyone had brought up this train of thought before. But he was happy to remind me that things will get pretty interesting when Lightweavers discover lasers and start using them in combat. > > https://wob.coppermind.net/events/309/#e11554
Furthermore, we also know that once Radiants reach a certain ideal, they almost quite literally do grow Shardplate, as Shallan suggests. Finally, flying around and tearing down a mountain or two sounds like a fairly plausible amount of destruction for fully formed Radiants, though I wouldn't expect it from a lightweaver without an Honorblade.
We also hear from Hoid in Chapter 64, page 758 of RoW some disturbing information about Radiant pow
... keep reading on reddit β‘Hey all,
My home is all electric with no fireplace or alternate heat source. I am looking to get a backup space heater in case the power goes out for extended periods of time. I live in central KY, so the winters are not terrible, but we are prone to ice storms which could knock out power for a while. Further, I live in a 2 story home, but is heavily insulated.
I am settling in on the Mr. Heater series of propane heaters, either the radiant or blue flame versions. I want to make sure I am thinking correctly regarding which would be best in our situation.
Am I correct in thinking that convection would be best in this scenario? Convection would be slower to heat and less efficient, but would be better at heating the entire area as opposed to just the people huddled in front of the heater?
I was thinking about whether or not Kaladin could lash a glob of water into the air, or would he be lashing individual drops, but then I thought of a much cooler use.
If someone were to soulcast trees into steel, then Kaladin could lash those into the sky, as high as he could go. Maybe even take an Edgedancer with him. The Edgedancer removes the steel rods from the effects of friction and air resistance and Kaladin just... drops them. Dozens of 2 ton steel beams dropping from the sky on the Fused with the force of bombs.
Basically the Rods from God. I think this would be pretty cool to see, but what are some other neat applications for the Surges?
*Edit:
Thought of another: Invisible Wave of Death
You take a squadron of full Windrunners (of the 3rd Ideal so they have blades) and a group of powerful Lightweavers. I think its implied that Spren can become basically anything their Radiant needs-- Syl just thinks it's undignified to be anything other than a weapon. But if all the Blades were made wide and flat, almost like a scraper (think Renektons blade from League of Legends), then you could weave light around them to be invisible or, barring that, refuse blown around in a Highstorm. The squad flies forward, blades held straight out, and mows through enemy lines basically unseen.
So we know that the secret to advanced power usage on Scadrial is exploiting storage of identity and investiture to create metal minds anyone can use (including, I suspect, metal minds that would allow the wearer to use allomancy).
So what is the mechanism that would allow Surge Binders to circumvent their restrictions, particularly the one that keeps heavily invested individuals from leaving the source of their investiture?
I was thinking about Dalinar creating spiritual connections to borrow languages, and Ishar's little trick to drain the Windrunners, and the thought hit me; What if Bondsmith spiritual connections are the exploit?
Rather than relying on the possibility of multi-order knights bonding 2+ Spren, what if a Bondsmith were to spiritually connect two knights and their spren, so that they shared powers?
This would allow new resonance effects.
Then taken further, what if a Bondsmith connected themselves to a Dustbringer or Skybreaker, gaining access to Division?
Could they use Division on a SPIRITUAL level to remove Identity from part of a Knight's investiture?
Essentially delete just the bit that linked the power to Roshar in the physical and cognitive? After all, since the spiritual realm lacks distance, the spiritual connection to Honor and Cultivation isn't effected by interstellar distance.
Thoughts?
After reading ROW I noticed few interesting things about Shallan, Lift, Kaladin and Adolin . They are or were exposed to powers from other shard worlds. There is very high possibility that Lifts strange chicken is an Aviar and she will form a "bond" with it in next book most likely with Dalinars help. Kaladin and Adolin have been trained by Zahel in his odd style of fighting. A fighting style of awakener. Zahep had even spared with Kaladin while using his art. I think that one o his students could became awakener in next book. Most likely Adolin if he doesn't become Radiant. And lastly Shallan gained Seon unbounded and highly traumatized Seon. Seons are wery similar to spren. So does that could hint a possibility of Shallan gaining access (with Dalinar help in bonding Seon) to some new kind of Dor or some kind of Aonic ability? With her artistic skills, and Patterns help she could easily use some Rosharan Dor like powers. What do you think about that ideas? (Also sorry for bad English)
From individual surge powers, or things the living shardplate/shardblades could do or even combination powers
Anyone else think it's kinda funny that using Illumination is called Lightweaving and using Transportation is called Elsecalling?
Like would you say that a Truthwatcher making illusions is Lightweaving? Or a Willshaper going into Shadesmar is Elsecalling? But their abilities are named after a different order. Why can't transportation be called Willshaping huh?
This isn't actually a complaint or necessarily an invitation for discussion I just thought it was odd.
So I was reading the Polygon article about Radiant Black and it stated that
"... with issue #7, Satomi and Marshall will meet new Radiants Yellow and Pink. After revealing their respective names to be Wendell and Eva, Higgins and Busuttil teased what the new duo would bring to the Radiant team. Evaβs unique ability allows her to teleport, but Wendellβs is being kept secret for now. Higgins said itβs βwild,β and Busuttil simply described it as the most complicated power of the lot."
"Higgins wouldnβt give up the game, but he did say to look toward the teamβs powers for clues, like Marshallβs cape or Satomiβs armored form. βGravity, absorption of matter, teleportation,β he smiled. βAll of these things could be grouped under the category of βblack hole stuff.ββ
I'm thinking if all their powers are black hole related, it might be something to do with time/dimension travel?
I know this much about their power
Radiant Black:gravity manipulation Radiant Red: matter absorption Radiant Pink: portal creation Radiant Yellow: energy manipulation?
Radiant glitch: seem to have all of them maybe ?
What do you think their power might be ?
Might be obvious to some, but was an enlightened thought for me.
The lighteyes are given special treatment in current Roshar, because the ancient Radiants' eyes glowed with stormlight.
Ancient Radiants were presumably given positions of prestige and power due to their abilities and oaths. This, over the many years, has become bastardized to mean that individuals born with light-colored eyes are given positions of power regardless of merit.
Idk, thought it was cool.
Anyone know where to find them now?
Thanks in advance!

ok so I'm not like a pro at this but it's just a theory btw idk if ppl already did something like this probably. so ppl say and debate whether it is earth, crystal, or ice, and I believe it is a crystal called jade which the Chinese have very strong beliefs in.
long ago probably during the neolithic period the Chinese begun to have a strong belief behind jade and how it protects a spirit after death or heals or protects the wearer from evil spirits.
By judging the color off of her abilities and clothing it's probably that she was a shaman who exorcised and healed using spiritual powers aka qi/chi(vital life force).
so its most likely that it a jade barrier protecting her allies against the opponents like how jade protects the wearer against evil and her slow orb is to slow down the moves is probably giving time to flee from danger most probably a spirit and she heals is bc it's said that jade heals the spirit of the body and the resurrection is probably just protecting the spirit and bringing it back into its original body all healed, furthermore the crystal covering the body when resurrecting which is similar to the jade burial suit which emperor Qin was clad in was thought to have the ability to stop mortal decay (rotting).
But remember the only problem I have with this research I did is in the slow orb as it doesn't add up right, how jade can slow down things when its main ability revolves around protection and healing the spirit.
now citations to my research
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wu_(shaman) got to the part where it says, healers
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Qi belief behind the use of qi(chi)
these 3 talk abt what jade is said to do, and maybe the part where it talks of about tranquility is how sage is always calm

Are there power generators that just beam power at objects placed near them, without needing wires attached?
now I gotta hope my quick resume works and I still manage to beat him.
This is probably already discussed in the community, but I couldn't find the post. So sorry, if this already exists.
I'm thinking about what the fourth ideal is. We know that radiants get plate after a certain ideal and fifth ideal is so rare and the plate is probably granted after fourth ideal.
I kinda don't want shard plate granted after saying fourth ideal, just because I don't really wanna see Kaladin fight in plate. I mean Kaladin's fighting style is always so fluid and technique based, and after learning lashings, pretty dependent on it in a fight. I think all of this makes plate really less valuable for a radiant like Kaladin imo. The only advantage plate really offers for Kaladin is strength, since the defense capabilities of plate is pretty useless when you have stormlight to heal. Plate might even become a hindrance for Kaladin since it constricts movement and he may need to use more stormlight for lashing himself.
That said, it is most probably gonna be shardplate. So my other question is what do you the plate is made from? Is it made from a bunch of lesser spren? Like the windspren will form as a plate for Kaladin? The connection Kaladin has with windspren is a set-up for this. Will all the windrunners attract the windspren in the same way Kaladin does?
