Dad joked a table of people, laughs not received.
Sitting around the table with a group of people when my friend starts talking about his mom's work:
Friend - "My mom has been at children's hospital for about 26 years." Me - "oh my god, what happened to her?!"
Blank stares that I hoped were the precursor to laughter. They weren't.
