Hey all, I work at the Paris Observatory, and a poster just caught my eye saying there will be a public tour on the 22nd of September (which doesn't happen very often). They didn't offer any info, but if you call the observatory they will likely know. If they don't know, PM me and I'll try to see if I can track down the registration info (as it's registration-only, from what the poster said).
Anyway, it could be neat as it's a part of the city not many people get to see (and the oldest continually operating observatory in the world).
Edit: I went back to check the poster and I totally missed that it said 'dedicated to friends and family of staff' on the bottom! I'm really sorry about that. When I wrote TRINITY in June 2021, based in part on testimony professionally recorded by Paola Harris, it was predictable that some ufologists would react to the book with skepticism. We’ve always welcomed professional critics and healthy arguments from which we could all learn. In this case, however, the attack claiming the book was based on a hoax was grossly misleading: any joker inventing the crash of an unknown object on his land, weeks after the first atomic bomb, wouldn’t remain silent about it for over sixty years. That alone discounts the idea of a hoax: you don’t come up with a joke only to wait that long to tell the punch line, especially when there are two other witnesses (curiously unmentioned in the attacks against the book) testifying to the actual crash and its aftermath. But implications of the San Antonio event for later cases such as Roswell are uncomfortable for many readers because they involve a drastic revision of the UFO record: they wish the episode could be erased from history.
The first attack against the book was not professional at all. Even before TRINITY was published, vicious insinuations were planted throughout the social networks, stating that the book had been cancelled due to gross inaccuracies. In reality, I did postpone publication by a couple of weeks because Paola had discovered another confirming witness and we felt readers should know about the important observations she made over several years on-site.
Today, with TRINITY well-established in its American and French editions, to be followed by several other translations in 2022, renewed criticism has appeared among the chaos of US social networks with the vicious personal attacks customary for such media. Obviously we won’t respond at that level; nor is that necessary, even for “an old man in a hurry” like me. We can let later developments decide the outcome. In this particular case, however, some of the attacks are so blatantly biased they actually border on systematic disinformation, and must be denounced for the interest of readers and future research.

On July 25, 2019 French Defense Minister (ministre des Armées) Florence Parly revealed a new national space strategy to support the "Space Command" (commandement de l'espace) being stood up that September under the Air Force, hereafter to be known as the "Armée de l'Air et de l'Espace" or Army of the Air and Space ( https://www.vie-publique.fr/discours/268578-florence-parly-25072019-strategie-spatiale-de-defense ). Noting that "the means to hinder, neutralize or destroy the opposing space capacities exist and are developing", she stated that France would "liberate" military operations from legal restrictions placed on civilian space programs to "give them sufficient leeway to fully protect our defense interests" (to include French commercial satellites). This would entail a new weapons program called "Space Mastery" (Maîtrise de l'Espace), integrating "surveillance and active defense" (la surveillance et la défense active). Active defense "could involve the use of high-power lasers deployed from our satellites" or from "patrolling nanosatellites" to be launched starting 2023. As to French space surveillance and situation awareness, which is explored below, she listed several existing resources: Graves and Satam radars, CNRS (Centre national de la recherche scientifique) TAROT and Ariane Group Geotracker telescope networks, and Thales commercial space surveillance satellite constellations. Finally, in mentioning France's partnership with the EU in creating "a future common capacity for knowledge of the space situation", she stated "And I am particularly counting on Germany to constitute a beating heart of space surveillance".
Radar Space Surveillance Resources:
GRAVES, the "Grand Réseau Adapté à la VEille Spatiale" or Large (Radar) Array for Space Surveillance has been operated by the French Air and Space Force since 2005. Guests can use this information to gauge demand for a particular restaurant/reservation and set expectations accordingly. The higher up in this list, the more competition there will be for a particular reservation.
