Parenthetic Devices

Hi! I am a film student currently completing my masters in film theory and practice, and I have been asked to pay attention to parenthetic devices during the dream sequences in the films β€œThe Exterminating Angel” and β€œSpellbound”.

I missed the lecture on this topic, and as the assessment period has begun my lecturers are refusing to explain to me what parenthetic devices are, and there is no clear explanation of this on Google.

If anyone could please provide me with any information on parenthetic devices it would be greatly appreciated!

Completed a short survey that's supposed to be a screener. No problem; paid well for a screener. At the end it indicated eligibility for additional research with Parenthetic. Wants you to sign up at website http://www.parenthetic.io/studies/

Wants you to enter name, email, information about referrer. So I tried to look up information online to validate Parenthetic. I can't find anything about them. Seems like something that just popped up. What do you think?

Arbitrage Vs. Sabotage Vs. Parenthetical Stupidity

In the wake of the unprecedented and unmitigated 100% transaction fee, applied to all normal transactions involving SafeMoon’s V1 token; a narrative has developed, one fashioned in the classic forms of β€˜back-peddling’, crafted as to make SafeMoon developer’s look like heroes, and not the opposite, in the light off widespread and ongoing seizing of investors tokens.

On December 29th, of 2021, at approximately 4:00 p.m. EST, SafeMoon changed the code line running in the tokens contract that governs the transaction fee rate (AKA Tax) to 100%. The outworkings of this change in the code line resulted in 100% of the tokens being rerouted to a different address than what was noted in the purchase, sale, or general transfer details, on the screens before investors. This single change in the contract, created a trading environment of uncertainties, which have been resulting in mounting losses, for existing tokens holders and those attempting to buy them.

The growing sentiment on the street, if you will, is that V1 one in semblance, has been rug pulled, with some outright defining it as such.

Ultimately, these events have prompted a response from SafeMoon, and they are claiming that the change in the code / contract, was brought on by some bad actors that were engaged in arbitrage. Further stating that by fully taxing V1 the arbitrage would stop.

Now some, in the wake of all of this have suggested or outright claimed that Safemoon created the arbitrage, by releasing a second token at a higher price, than the first, permitting the first token (V1) to be traded for the second (V2) at a fixed ratio of 1000:1, a ratio that was / is smaller than the price disparity.

Meaning that the more V1 you own, the more V2 you will get. In that the V2 Token was / is worth over a 1000 times more than the V1 token, therefore being greater than the consolidation rate, a door to arbitrage, was opened.

However, others are calling it an β€˜arbitrage like’ event, because two tokens and not one have been involved, with purchases and swaps occurring within singular exchanges, rather than across two or more.

For those of whom that are unfamiliar with arbitrage, you wouldn’t likely have known the distinction, and have just trusted the narrative that is circulating, as being accurate and therefore true.

Arbitrage is actually something altogether different than what has been occurring with the SafeMoon’s V2 launch.

A post asking about parentheticals in fiction prose on another subreddit got me thinking about how common it is in fanfic and hungering for some better data about how common it is than just my personal impressions. So here we are! If you have any further thoughts on stylistic use of parenthesis across different fandoms, (or even non fanfic genres!) or your personal decisions to use/not just them, I'd love to hear it!

Music recommendations open parenthetical your one album you recommend to another music fan closed parenthetical

I use the pod to find new music either by the album highlighted or others mentioned during episodes. So while the pod is gone, I wanted to outsource their job.

The idea for this album recommendation is what is the album that is your go to if you're recommending something to another massive music fan? This should eliminate a lot of the classics. Mine is: Departure Songs by We Lost The Sea. It's an instrumental rock band (think explosions in the sky this will destroy you type bands). Each song is inspired by true stories of explorers or adventurers who died on their journey. Start with "A Gallant Gentleman" if you don't like this song, I'm going to guess you probably won't like the album.

It's worth reading about the stories that inspired the songs before hand if you really want the full experience. As it sounds, this can be a brutal listen. Howeva, by the time you reach the end and the point of the album becomes clear it's actually really uplifting. I'd love any recommendation any of you are willing to give!

Also, I feel like Dan and Bob are missing a chance to hurl Gallagher esque insults back and forth at each other on Twitter while broken up. Who's the potato?

What exactly does Rosen mean in this parenthetical comment from Classical Style?

What exactly is Charles Rosen getting at in this parenthetical comment from Classical Style? He gives no examples.

It comes from the Mozart section talking about the string quintets, pages 277-8 in my edition. I understand clearly what he is describing in Mozart's music, but my impression is that the parenthetical aside about later composers isn't a finished thought. I'd love any interpretations.

Here is the full excerpt (sorry, I'm useless at uploading images)

[Mozart's C major and G minor quintets]...

>...are not an isolated and eccentric experiment in Mozart's development. The enlargement remains parts of his conception of the genre. The increase of space demanded by the sonority entails an increase not so much in the span of time as in tonal mass. The first movement of the G minor Quintet, like that of the C major, concentrates on the tonic area far beyond the limits that Mozart allowed himself in any quartet. This makes possible an opening page of a chromatic bitterness and insistence that can still shock by the naked force of its anguish. It is an opening that was unique for the last quarter of the 18th century in presenting directly so deeply troubled an emotion, reaching a point of tension by the twentieth measure that all other works hold in reserve until much later.

>Yet the mastery and the control are as serene as ever: a new theme brought forward in the tonic, used as a bridge to the relative major, and then played again, profoundly intensified. Its two forms are:

He then provides a score excerpt from K516, themes starting at bar 30 and bar 48.

>In this way, any feeling of anti-climax and of slackening after the storm of the opening is evaded by the later more complex and agitated form of this new theme, and, at the same time, the 'first group' is enlarged as in the C major quintet so that the dimensions correspond to the intensity. The tragedy is allowed to expand freely, which is why this work, like the G minor symphony, has an emotional force as objective as it is personal. **(Later composers need procedures almost diametrically opposed: Chopin, Liszt, and Schumann constrict the expressive elements so that they can be cut off at the moment of their greatest intensity, a technique that Wagner attempt to diffuse through a longer time-span, and that Brahms tried to reconcile with classical form; this constriction

Parenthetical IF statement tests

IDK if this is a gamemamker specific question or a coding question but I'm working in GML so this is where I'm asking.

I'm trying to make a load game menu. Basically there are 4 game save slots and if a player clicks on an empty save game file they are prompted to make a new save game, but if they click on a save file that already exists they are given the choice to be brought to that save game or delete that save game.

The basic test I want to run is

if((The Player Hits Enter Or Clicks) && (The Save Game Selected Does Not Exist)){
    The player can now create a new save game in the selected file number();
}

right now I have the test looking something like this:

if((keyboard_check_pressed(vk_enter) || mouse_check_button_pressed(mb_left)) && ((menuPos == 1 && !global.hasSaved1) || (menuPos == 2 && !global.hasSaved2) || (menuPos == 3 && !global.hasSaved3) || (menuPos == 4 && global.hasSaved4))){
    fn_shitHappens();
}

where menuPos is the position on the menu the player is at, and global.hasSaved# is a variable that changes to true once a game save has been made

below the code I have a way to enter the save name and bring you to the game. I want to then have a second block that is basically the exact same but instead will have

(menuPos == 2 && global.hasSaved2)

arguments instead and bring up a separate dialog box along the lines of "do you want to play or delete this save file?" or something like that.

This is not working though. When I click or hit enter, nothing happens. I'm assuming I have one too many tests happening at once, but I can't figure out if it's because the statement is written incorrectly, or if I just need to do a separate test for each game save file.

RegExReplace for formatting templates (removing parenthetical text)

tl;dr - is it possible to use AHK's RegExReplace to remove parenthetical text on MS Word?

I work with copy/paste formatted templates on Word and I've automated most of the tedious process with AHK. The one thing I'd really like to be able to do but haven't figured out yet is remove leftover parenthetical guides so that a line like

>Name of School: Cloverton (abc XYZ)

is left as

>Name of School: Cloverton

after running the script on a filled-out template.

Regex seems like the best solution because the number of characters/words between parentheses varies from template to template but from my novice understanding of AHK and Regex (and InStr, StrReplace, etc) this will only work if a string to search is designated. I am not sure how to designate the contents of the filled-out template as a string. I have also looked into using FileRead, but each filled-out template will be first saved under its own unique file name and I am not sure if there was a way to have FileRead look only at the file that is open/in the active window.

The most common solution I saw made use of Clipboard to copy the filled-out template, run Regex on the clipboard content to remove parenthetical text, then paste the results. But these templates have formatting such as pictures and centred text and it seems pasting from the Clipboard will only return plain text stripped of formatting.

Any help or ideas or pointers for keywords I should be googling are sorely appreciated!

ETA: here's the code I did for the Clipboard/paste that successfully removed the parenthetical guides and their contents, but doesn't retain source formatting:

F10::
    Send, ^{a}
    Send, ^{c}
    ClipWait
    Clipboard := RegExReplace(Clipboard, "\((.*?)\)")
    Send, ^{v}
return
