A list of puns related to "Olympic Weightlifting"

2028 Olympics might just be a cycling, equestrian, country dancing triathlon at this point.
We've all read the news. I would like to have a little more discussion about this.
I really feel like we've been saying 'the sport has no future if it gets dropped from the Games' for so long that most of us just believe that without further questioning it.
At least that's what I did for the most part till Tokyo - imo the most underwhelming (as far as weightlifting is concerned) Olympics since 84 - happened.
It's quite obvious though that there are huge benefits associated with staying in the Olympics, regardless of what one might think about the actual competition.
Olympic sports draw in athletes that would otherwise pick something different to do, the OG medal is a huge motivation for a lot of aspiring world class lifters. This I think is even more blatant in developing countries, seeking to gain international renown this way etc.
The second benefit stems from the same 'prestige argument' basically and comes down to funding. National federations receive a big chunk of their budget from government bodies (this chunk makes up the majority of the nat fed budget where I live) and the size of the sum is often largely dependent on the olympic status of the sport, many WL national training centers wouldn't even exist if it wasn't for the sport being an olympic one.
If anyone knows of other significant pro's, please share.
As far as cons go, these I feel are starting to pile up too.
First of all, having to deal with the IOC keeps the sport securely in IWF's grip. As long as the sport stays in the games, it's based on the IOC-IWF relationship. I don't have many good things to say about either of those organizations, but there's not much weightlifting as a sport can do about the Olympic Committee. Without the Olympics being the ace up IWF's sleeve though, a debate about some sort of a schism from the federation, or even a debate about a new fed in its entirety, would be possible and meaningful.
Secondly - and this is very subjective - the IOC's demands in the past quad had fucked up the sport even further. I am not talking about the futile attempts to 'level the playing field'. We got new weight classes (for the third time since 1972) - these suck, quite objectively, especially the Olympic configuration of them. The qualification system for the Olympics is a clusterfuck that many (if not most) national coaches would struggle to explain. The continental (and per-country-limit) 'spots' system produces - albeit culturally and geographically balanced - c

Might be moving to Darmstadt shortly but I don't know anything about the city.
Does anyone know any weightlifting club here? Also, how does the competition works? Is there any local league for amateur athletes?
Any thoughts on the CrossFit boxes in Darmstadt? Is there any who also has got a weightlifting club?
Thanks in advance, any info is welcomed.
Hello all ,
Ill be visiting lyon for about 5 months. Im looking for a olympic weightlifting gym that i can visit either 3 to 4 times per week. Are there any gyms that offer open gym memberships?
Thanks
Hey, I just wanted some tips on how to do the olympic weightlifting without a coach. I'm 15 going on 16 right now and I've always wanted to be active in the gym, lifting weights and all but my mum and dad put a heavy emphasis on school and study. That's not the problem though, since I think they're quite lenient, the problem is how they're quite sexist and traditional - especially dad.
Some background info: I never was properly active growing up, but I do live far from school so I walk all the time. However, as a kid I'd watch sports like MMA and WWE all the time, and now that I'm no longer a scaredy cat I figured I'd learn kickboxing. My mum's warmed up to the idea, and may be considering it so I can put it on my CV. But on top of that, I have taken a very strong liking to olympic lifting, and I have for a while. It's super fun to me - the moves, the lifters, the professionalism of it all - and I aspire to be like Kuo Hsing Chun and Shi Zhiyong one day.
I went to my dad instead because my mum pays for everything (house, books, food) but he thinks I would "get bulky", and that I need to "look like a woman" to get a boyfriend and have kids. Newsflash: I don't care! I don't care about boys, or looking feminine, or having kids, because it's not on my radar. Hell I'm bloody sapphic and non-binary. Even when I was my most girly I didn't get anybody, no muscles, nothing. I hate how he forces this idea of what I should be like: pretty, feminine, soft, and makes every conversation about that just because I'm assigned female, refusing to recognise that I'm the antithesis of that.
Back to the point, I know I won't make as great progress as if I did have a coach, nor would I learn it properly. But I want to be strong and feel cool. My mum says that I can lose weight at home but she doesn't realise that I'm not trying to be skinny (I'm way to slim anyway!). All my other mates who have liberal parents or are AMAB get to, and I want to as well. I just hate how I'm denied oppurtunties because of what's in my pants.
So what can I do? How do I maximise progress and have the best performance for the clean, snatch, and jerk without a coach?
is there a point where so much flexibility and mobility could hinder this type of exercise. for example. take someone who can do ashtanga yoga and bend their spine through a huge range of motion, like the people who can bring their feet over their head...would they still be able to generate the same amount of power needed for olympic lifting?
Hello, anybody have any online guide either in PDF or excel that states all the accessories that can help in my Oly WL.
I am pretty new in WL and interested in knowing what accessories or lifting work that helps me improve.
Im currently living in Switzerland and interested in weightlifting. Sadly there arenβt many good places/coaches here. I was wondering if i should find somewhere near the Boarder between Switzerland and Germany for a good Weightlifting facility. Does anyone have any knowledge?
