Relationship between human nature and fate/divinity in Odyssey and Oedipus the King

Hi all,

Just wondering what your initial ideas on this statement would be. I'm contemplating writing an essay on the matter but will definitely use any ideas as the basis of a debate I'll have with my book group next week.

Any comments appreciated

Can someone help me find the version of "Oedipus the King" Albert Camus references in his essay "The Myth of Sisyphus"?

In his essay The Myth of Sisyphus, Camus quotes Oedipus saying "Despite so many ordeals, my advanced age and the nobility of my soul make me conclude that all is well" (O'Brien translation). I can't seem to find this quote in any version of Oedipus the King/Oedipus Rex. In the non-translated version (Camus' actual words) he quotes Oedipus saying "MalgrΓ© tant d'Γ©preuves, mon Γ’ge avancΓ© et la grandeur de mon Γ’me me font juger que tout est bien." I couldn't find anything for the french version either. Does anyone happen to know which version of Oedipus the King Camus is quoting?

Do you think my first wife was a social worker because a social worker is the first woman I remember like an Oedipus Complex?

I married the psychological help (not mine) apparently we were both into taboo sex. It didn't last but she taught me about the Oedipus Complex and I have always wondered how my ex wife was like my adopted mom. (my 2nd wife is kinda)

I then remembered my stable memories are of hanging out with a social worker at McDonald's, etc and talking. Creepy.

Thoughts?

Looking for a source, connecting Oedipus Rex and the rise of the crime novel.

Hi, I'm looking for a mythologist paper -or any other area of expertise that would tackle it, really- that would make a clear case for the psychoanalytic connexion between Oedipus Rex and the crime novel. I've heard, thought about the connexion for a while now, but I really need a reliable paper that lays it out, for an introduction for my PhD and I'm struggling to find a paper solely about that.

Shower thought: Jeff spent the GC reunion show trying to will Aubry into becoming Oedipus

During the Game Changers reunion show Jeff tried his hardest to get Aubry and Cochran to become a couple. But that’s just what it looked like on the surface. In Aubry’s CBS Bio for season 32 she stated that she was β€œThe love child of Sophie and Cochran.”

For those of you unaware, in Oedipus Rex the tragic hero, Oedipus, goes to an oracle who prophesies that he will marry his mother and kill his father. He accidentally fulfills said prophesy.

So if Aubry were to start dating Cochran, that would fulfill the first part of the prophecy. Jeff’s hope was that from there Aubry would, like Oedipus, accidentally fulfill the second half of the prophesy by killing Sophie.

This whole part of the reunion show was part of Jeff’s master plan to avenge the loss of both Ozzy and Coach in South Pacific.

I saw this stand up recently and there was a joke that Oedipus would be pissed that we named "Oedipus Complex" after him because its the complex that you *want* to fuck your mom. But when he found out he had he carved his eyes out (or something, its been a while since I was forced to read Shakespeare, guys)

In his introduction to Anti-Oedipus, Foucault offers seven 'counter-fascist principles' which are pretty prevalent on the Internet. How to interpret them? Do they belong within the broader locus of Foucault's work?

Hey. I've read a bit from Deleuze/Guattari's A Thousand Plateaus and related works, including Anti-Oedipus. (Mostly online)

I found this link: http://www.therevolution.jmoon.net/About/foucault.html which quotes from Foucault's preface to the latter work. I also once read the preface myself, a while ago. I have been curious about this: (1) do these principles operate somewhat clearly (if not verbatim as put here) within the focus of Foucault's philosophy (i.e. are there more writings on the lacuna, lacking, negativity, etc. as political motivations)? and (2) was wondering about the fact that the principles are mostly encoded as do-nots, despite one of those do-nots being a down on lack, lacuna, negativity.

Have not read much Foucault, have garnered a lot from pretty long conversations with friends and fellow academics alike, thanks
