I am doing an assignment of re-writing Antigone (an old Greek play) and I need some help deciding what characters should be the supporting cast.
So far I have Guiliman as Creon, Horus as Polynices, Sanguinius as Eteocles, and maybe Vulcan as Antigone but I have no idea who should fill the rest of the roles.
Any ideas?
I was recently brushing up on Aristotle's structure of what makes a tragic hero, as well as how he defines "protagonist" and "antagonist" and I stumbled upon hundreds of posts online explaining that either Creon is the antagonist, or Antigone is. I had no idea this was such a hot button debate amongst professors of literature and philosophy - but to me it was always pretty clear who the antagonist of the story is....
In my opinion, Antigone is the Antagonist. The Protagonist is the character which undergoes the greatest change in themselves due to the agony which they are dealt (often to and by themselves) in the story. The antagonist is the character who opposes them. Paired in with the fact that Creon is a tragic-hero by Aristotle's structure (adhered to by Sophocles), and that Antigone doesn't go through a character transformation, I think it's pretty clear she's the Antagonist (not to mention the wordplay with her name).
I think this tragedy is a good example of how the protagonist isn't necessarily the titular character, the main character, or the good character.
Who do you all think is the Antagonist? Is it Creon or Antigone?
