I was wondering if we will get to see possibly the most terrifying creature in Norse mythology, the dragon that gnaws at the roots of the World Tree, Níðhöggr. It seems too good to pass up. Apart from the Aesir/Vanir and others we've seen such as Jörmungandr , we've had teases for Fenrir and his sons, Surtr and others I can't remember. So do you think we'll see it? If so what will it be like? Will it be intelligent, or will it be like a huge destructive animal? Will it play apart in Ragnarok? What about the giant eagle it's supposed to fight? Will it show up as well? Will it be combined with the eagle in Helheim (AFAIK that's a Jotun in the myths)?
Interested to hear what you guys think.
After the vet's inspection it seems Níðhöggr will be okay, there's no signs of respiratory infection or any parasitic harm, her body weight is normal, her fangs/mouth are normal, and she began being more active this morning before I brought her down.
He says it could have been one of two things, overheating or dehydration, which is odd because I've checked all her temps with my temp gun and her humidity is at a comfortable 80% with the auto mister giving her fresh water droplets to drink every 2 hours.
Regardless, she's looking and acting better today, thanks everyone for the suggestions and kind words!
Greetings.... yeah.
Anyways, being a sucker for folklore and stuff, i realize that each new sea-themed mask outfit is based off of a mythological being/creature that is taken from the culture of that faction. But I decided to analyze the Nidhogg Mask Outfit.
Níðhöggr is the old norse name for this monster of a creature. No one knows when this dragon appeared during the creation of the world, but everyone knows where he lives.
Enter the world of Niflheim, the realm of icy mists and fog, and is where Hel is located. (Both the place and the goddess of the underworld). But Hel's realm are for those who have died of sickness and old age, a place that is gloomy and dull.
(A side note: this is what the narrator was talking about in the Valkyrie's trailer. The Valkyries of For Honor fight to earn enough glory so they can save the souls of their chosen from Hel, and send them to Valhalla. This alone was enough to make me a Valkyrie main.)
Anyways, there are some places of interest inside Niflheim and inside Hel, is the Dead Body Shore. It is also known by the name of Náströnd. This is the afterlife meant for Murderers, Adulterers, and Oath-breakers. These three things were the worst possible crimes in the eyes of the Vikings. There is a hall made of writhing snakes that will use their venom to poison the stream that flows through the hall, and into the shore.
It was in this place, that the legendary dragon named Níðhöggr resided. When he wasn't chewing on the roots of Yggdrasil, he was terrorizing the murderers, the adulterers, and the oath-breakers by devouring them, alive or dead from the venomous waters, their bodies adrift on the shore.
It is believed that Níðhöggr will survive Ragnarok, and after eating some of the leftover bodies from Ragnarok, will continue his reign of terror at Náströnd.
Níðhöggr, or Nidhogg, is a serpent "who gnaws at the root of the world tree" in Norse mythology. He feeds on the corpses of the dead and "suck[s] the blood of the slain."
A serpentine monster that lies at the center of the world and devours its life force? Sounds like sneeple! Or the cluster, especially as depicted by Steven's sock puppet this episode.
The dragon has been freed, and come to Earth. Even if they all band together, could the X-Men defeat the dragon Níðhöggr?
Fight takes place in/over a huge northern forest in bitter winter.
