I googled and skimmed headlines but I couldn't find an answer.
I just got a text that JCPS is in-school tomorrow (January 25th). Is this a "hey get back to class" kind of announcement or are they really going day-by-day in deciding to have/not-have NTI?
Going day-by-day is going to be stressful.
Hello all,
We are forecasted to receive anywhere from 2-6 inches of snow tomorrow. The snow is supposed to start around 11am and last all day.
We received the email from superintendent about an hour ago that we will go NTI because even if students came we'd have to release them early during the heaviest snow.
However, we still have to report to the school and hold zoom meetings for the students from school. We have been told that we may be allowed to leave early.
So, they don't want to put students on the road during heavy snow, but don't mind putting us on the road during heavy snow.
Adding on, during our last PLC where we spoke about NTI, someone asked what we were supposed to do if we were snowed in. Principal responded by saying that if we can't make it to the school, we have to call in sick.
I live 30+ minutes from the school (longer if driving in the snow) and off the main roads, so if we get dismissed too late, my roads will be horrible while I'm driving home.
I'm highly considering taking a "sick day" tomorrow because I don't want to be put in that situation. I just don't know why we can't zoom from home.
They even said that if we get dismissed early we can finish the instructional day from home - if we can finish the day from home, why can't we just do the whole day from home.

Dear JCPS Family,
Thank you for your flexibility as we manage the COVID-19 pandemic together with you and your child. As you know, all Jefferson County Public Schools shifted to online Non-Traditional Instruction (NTI) last week due to the high number of COVID-related absences among staff and its impact on our ability to safely operate our schools.
While all of us would prefer our children participate in in-person classroom instruction, our schools, teachers and students made the near-seamless transition to NTI last week and did a tremendous job continuing learning.
While students were learning remotely, we have continued to monitor the number of staff who have called in sick due to COVID-19. We reviewed the data as recently as this morning and have determined that we do not have enough staff to safely return to school, at this time. As of 2:15 p.m. today, we had 692 staff in isolation/quarantine due to COVID-19, about 30 more than last Sunday. This does not include staff who have approved absences for other reasons.
Therefore, students will NOT be returning to school buildings this week. We are extending NTI for the remainder of this week, from Tuesday, January 18 through Friday, January 21. Students will continue to receive instruction from their teacher(s). We hope to return to in-person instruction in all of our schools on Monday, January 24.
JCPS will also be continuing its curbside meal pick-ups at more than 100 schools from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday. Each day, families can pick up two days worth of breakfasts and lunches for each JCPS student in their household. Last week, more than 75,000 meals were distributed.
JCPS is working to use our 6 remaining NTI days strategically and it appears the number of positive cases may trend downward next week. We are hoping that using our NTI days now will allow staff to get better and students to return to school buildings next week. The Kentucky Legislature has also approved 10 Remote Learning days that are not NTI days and cannot be used on a districtwide basis. Our school board must give Dr. Pollio the authority to use these Remote Learning days and this item is included on the Board agenda Tuesday night.
We understand that continuing NTI may inconvenience you and your family, but we believe this is the best decision, at this time, to ensure our students receive the best instruction possible in a safe environment. If you have any questions about your student’s t
