Hi, I am a sport physiologist (far from a physicist). So this question might be laughable for some, I am really unsure if I have reasoned correctly here. I am working on an instructional paper right now on increasing punching power for boxers and I would like to explain the importance of power (force*velocity) in a simple manner.
So i'm starting with newton's second law of motion (force=mass*acceleration). I want to use this following scenario:
''Imagine getting hit by a car (Weighing 1000kg) approaching at 5km/h, despite the mass of the car, the impact would equal 1389N and you would probably be unharmed. In contrast, if you're hit by the same car but at 100km/h, the impact would equal 27778N and you would be pulverized.''
(the point being that both effective mass and speed is of importance in a boxing punch)
Is this statement overly simplified or is there any error in it? If so, any suggestions for a better practical example to explain my point?

So this might not be the realm of 5-year-olds but I was curious from a mathematical standpoint how Newton came to discover specifically that [F]orce was [m]ass multiplied by [a]cceleration and not some other mathematical operation like some logarithm or polynomial or something (not sure what those are either but that's another eli5 entirely).
